General Instructions:
(i) There are 22 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
(ii) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and Section E.
(iii) All the sections are compulsory.
(iv) Section A contains 12 questions, 10 MCQ and 2 Assertion Reasoning based of 1 mark each,
Section B contains 3 questions of two marks each, Section C contains 4 questions of three marks
each, Section D contains 1 case study based questions of five marks and Section E contains 2 long
answer questions of five marks each.

Section – A

resistance in series with it.

The current I is uniformly distributed across this cross-section. Calculate the magnetic field in the region

(i) Identify the materials A and B,
(ii) For the materials A plot the variation of I v/s temperature.
15. An uniform magnetic field gets modified as shown below, when two specimens X and Y are placed in it.
(i) Identify the two specimens X and Y.
(ii) State the reason for the behavior of the field lines in X and Y.

16. (a) A point charge q moving with speed ‘ v ’ enters a uniform magnetic field B that is acting into the
plane of the paper as shown in figure. What is the path followed by the charge q and in which planes
does it move?
(b) How does the path followed by the charge get affected if its velocity has a component parallel B ?
(c) If an electric E is also applied such that the particle continues moving along the original straight
line path, what would be the magnitude and direction of the electric field E ?
17. The magnitude F of the force between two straight parallel current carrying conductors kept at a

distance d apart in air is given by F 0 1 2 , where I1 and I 2 are the currents flowing through the two

wires. Use this expression, and the sign convention that the : “Force of attraction is assigned a
negative sign and force of repulsion is assigned a positive sign”. Draw graphs showing dependence of F
on
(i) I1 I 2 when d is kept constant.
(ii) d when the product I1 I 2 is maintained at a constant positive value.
(iii) d when the product I1 I 2 is maintained at a constant negative value.
18. A galvanometer with a coil of resistance 12.0Ω shows full scale deflection for a current of 2.5mA. How
will you convert the metre in to:
(i) an ammeter of range 0 to 7.5A, (ii) a voltmeter range 0 to 10.0V?
Determine the net resistance of the metre in each case.
19. A square loop is side 20 cm carrying current of 1 A is kept near an infinite long straight wire carrying a
current of 2 A in the same plane as shown in figure. Calculate the magnitude and direction of the net
force exerted on the loop due to the current carrying conductor.

21. (a)Two straight long parallel conductors carry currents I1 and I2 in the same direction. Deduce the
expression for the force per unit length between them. Depict the pattern of magnetic field lines
around them.
(b) A rectangular current carrying loop EFGH is kept in a uniform magnetic field as shown in the figure.
(i) What is the direction of the magnetic moment of the current loop? (ii) When is the torque acting on
the loop (A) maximum, (B) zero?
22. (a) Using Biot-Savart’s law, derive an expression for the magnetic field at the centre of a circular coil of
radius R, number of turns N, carrying current I.
(b) Two small identical circular loops marked (1) and (2), carrying equal centers, are placed with the
geometrical axes perpendicular to each other as shown in fig. find the magnitude and direction of the
net magnetic field produced at the point O.
