1. Introduction
The purpose of this document is to provide an overview on codes and standard that implies on
SPL facility.
Being one of the leading contributors of energy sector in Bangladesh Super Petrochemical
Limited (SPL) feels the responsibility to establish it as a role model in ensuring codes and
standard within the plant premises.
To ensure the safest production facility, hydrocarbon storage, industrial waste disposal and
healthy working environment SPL mostly follows US and International codes and standards for
Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries such as API, ASME, NFPA, ASTM,
ATEX, NEMA, CSA etc. SPL also strictly maintains all the regulation for Petroleum Refinery &
Petrochemical Industries sets by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission and Explosive
Department of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.

2. Codes & Standard:

The following US codes and standards shall be applied to the Engineering and Design Package
and adhered to in the selection of the various component parts used in the fabrication and
assembly of the equipment:
2.1 Pressure Vessel:
ASME Sec VIII Div. 1 – “ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code”

Other than these SPL ensure certified mill test reports for materials used in ASME Code vessels
from the supplier to ensure material quality.

Sufficient surge capacity is provided in all vessels to assure stable control and allow corrective
action to be taken in the event of a process upset or equipment failure. Sufficient elevation is
provided for all vessels to assure adequate suction head at low liquid level for pumps.

2.2 Process Heater:

Insulation system applied to hot service application of piping, vessels, heat exchangers, pumps
and other machinery. Hot service means a temperature of 150° F and higher. Hot service
insulation installed to –
Conserve energy, provide personnel protection, maintain temperature for process control,
provide winterization, provide acoustic insulation and provide fire protection of process
equipment.

4. Conclusion:

environment friendly process by installing state of art equipment for Petroleum and
Petrochemical processing.
