You should be able to install the FlashArray in approximately
one hour and 15 minutes. Each optional expansion shelf
should take an additional 15-30 minutes to install. If there are one or more storage shelves included, refer to the Expansion Shelf Quick Installation Guide or Add-on Shelf
Quick Installation Guide (in the "Open Me First" box) for the list of contents in each storage shelf cartons for future use.

Planning the Installation 3. Mount the Chassis in the Rack
Mount heavier equipment lower in the rack. A fully loaded FlashArray chassis weighs 43.2 kg (95.2 lbs.). If possible, install The FlashArray chassis weighs 37.8 kg (83.2 lbs.) before you install DirectFlash Modules or blanks. Make arrangements

1. Remove the chassis from the antistatic bag. With one person on each side, lift the chassis by the handles and slide it onto
2. Install the Rails the rails until the rear handles are two inches from touching the rack.
2. Rest the rear of the chassis on the rails, support the front of the chassis, and remove each rear handle. See step v on Fig-

the Accessory Kit) on the front of the rack, as shown in Fig-
ure 2.
On round-hole racks, use clip nuts (not provided by Pure
Storage, Inc.) instead of cage nuts.

Figure 2. Installing Cage Nuts

FlashArray includes two rails, labeled right and left. The rails
have locating pins (for square- and round-hole racks) or pos-
itioning studs (visible if you unscrew and remove the locating
pins for threaded-hole racks) that you align with the holes in
the rack.
2. Install one of the two rails (the installation order does not
matter) by pulling the spring-loaded lever back and insert-
ing the locating pins or positioning studs in the front mount-
ing post at the desired height. Release the lever once the
rail is in place. See Figure 3.
Figure 3. Installing a Rail (Front Post)

3. Extend the rear of the rail until the locating pins or pos-
itioning studs reach the rear mounting post, and press the
rail into the rear post until the latch engages. See Figure 4
(left rail shown).
4. Install the second rail.
Make sure to install the rear of each rail into the post holes
that are at the same height as the holes being used on the
front post. Otherwise, the chassis might slide off the rails
causing personal injury and damage to the FlashArray.

4. Slide the chassis completely into the rack so that the

5. (Square- and round-hole racks only) Secure the front of

each rail to the rack and chassis with the screws
provided in the Accessory Kit. One screw is provided for
each rail.
To install the screws, open both slam latches on the
chassis front panel and thread the screws through each
slam latch hole. Tighten the screws, securing the
chassis to the rack and the attached cage nut (installed
in step of "Install the Rails" on the previous page) or clip
nut (for use with round-hole racks and not provided by
Pure Storage), and then close the slam latches. See Fig-
ure 7.
(Threaded-hole racks only) Secure the front of each rail
to the rack with screws that fit the rack's threaded holes.
For example, if the rack has #10-32 threads, you can
use the screws provided in the Accessory Kit. If the rack
has threads of another size, you must obtain matching Figure 7. Securing Front of Rail
screws.

2. For replication, use customer-supplied 10-GbE cables to connect ports ETH2 and ETH3 (labeled REPL A and REPL
B in Figure 9) to replication network switch ports.
3. Connect 1-GbE cables to management ports ETH0 and ETH1.
4. Connect SAS0 through SAS3 from the FlashArray to the expansion shelves, if present. See the Expansion Shelf Quick
Installation Guide for more information.
5. After connecting, pull gently on the cables until you feel resistance to ensure they are secure.
Repeat steps 1–6 for the second controller.

6. Unpack and Install Expansion Shelves

Unpack and install any expansion shelves. Refer to the Expansion Shelf Quick Installation Guide (12G shelves) or Add-on
Shelf Quick Installation Guide (6G shelves) for unpacking, installation, and cabling instructions. Refer to the FlashArray
Cabling Guide for detailed step-by-step cabling instructions.
After installing expansion shelves, return to this document and resume the installation procedure starting with "Install the
Bezel" below.

9. Sign into FlashArray and Configure Controllers (Cont'd)
Verify the Setup and Configuration
After the FlashArray is online, make sure it is healthy by doing the following:

1. Enter the purehw list command. All statuses should read ok.
2. Enter the hardware_check.py command. All results should be All's well.
3. Enter the pureboot list command. Make sure that *--> is pointing at the desired version.
4. Enter the purearray list --controller command. Make sure both controllers are online and running the cor-
rect version of Purity.
5. Test the Purity GUI by viewing the virtual IP (VIP) in a browser.
6. Test the Purity CLI by using ssh pureuser@array_VIP.
7. If the array has one or more expansion shelves, enter the following commands on each controller to check the SAS con-
nections:
sas_view.py config
sas_view.py enclosures
If the SAS cables are connected correctly, these commands return the following response:
No errors detected.
If errors are detected, contact Pure Storage Technical Support for assistance.
