QUESTION#1: Define hardware and software, also type down the types of software.

Hardware:
Hardware refers to the physical elements of a computer or any other electronic device. This is also
sometimes called the machinery or the equipment of the computer. Examples of hardware in a
computer are the CPU (Central Processing Unit), the Keyboard, the mouse, speakers and DVD ROM, etc

Software:
Software also called programs or apps, consists of all the instructions for hardware to perform a specific
task. Programs (also known as software) are created by programmers (like me, XD) in different
languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, HTML, CSS and JavaScript which are then deployed for different
operating systems such as Windows, Android and MacOS, etc.

Types of Software:

There are two types of software:


1. System Software:
They help the computer run computer hardware and computer system itself, System software
include OS (Operating Systems), device drivers and diagnostic tools, etc.
2. Application Software:
They are useful for users to accomplish certain tasks such as messaging, sharing files, web
browsing, saving files in a device and many other tasks for which you will want to install
software.

1. MS – PowerPoint
2. E - Mail
3. E - Learning and advantages of E – Learning

MS – PowerPoint:
Microsoft PowerPoint is a software/program used to make presentations for personal or business
purposes. This can be used to create graphical charts, slides, invitation cards and certificates, etc.

E – Mail:

E-mail which stands for ​Electronic Mail is a feature used for circulating messages across the internet. It
allows you to send and receive messages to and from anyone with an email address from any part of the
world where you have access to the internet.
E – Learning:
E-Learning stands for Electronic Learning simply a learning method which is enabled electronically or
online. You can see websites like Khan Academy, Udemy, edx, and any other platform which allows
students to learn from their online platform (software).

Advantages of E-Learning:
● It promotes active and independent learning.
● It is very convenient and flexible option and you don’t have to depend on anyone for anything.
● You can train yourself on a day-to-day basis, but also in weekends or whenever you feel like
learning. There are no restrictions so you can learn whenever you have free time.
● It is the best way of delivering courses online.
● Anyone from any side of the world can access the course and learn what they want.

CPU:
CPU which stands for ​Central Processing Unit​ is the brain of the computer and is responsible for
processing the instructions (calculations). It runs the operating system and applications, constantly
receiving input from the users or active software programs. It processes the data and produces output
which maybe stored in a system by an application or displayed on a screen.
Note:​ if you need more detail on CPU such as what is inside the CPU or how data is processed in CPU
then tell me, above is just basics of a CPU.

MS – Word:
Microsoft Word is a word processing application program/package specially designed for performing
various word processing tasks, such as typing, editing and printing out of textual information. Microsoft
Word also offers facilities for basic graphic design, statistical report of a document, spelling and
grammar checking tasks, etc.

QUESTION#5: Explain the importance and features of MS – Word?

Importance:

● Microsoft Word​ ​is an effective tool for creating all kinds of documents like letters, memos,
reports, term papers, and typesetting novels and magazines, etc.
● Microsoft Word​ ​offers you specialized tools for formatting your document in various ways:
perform spelling and grammar check to produce standard and error-free documents, word
count feature for a statistical report of your document, drawing and graphics editing tools to
add a touch of graphics or images to go with your documents, sounds and video handling tools
to add multimedia feature to a document and tools for creating and distributing merged faxes,
form letters, labels and envelopes, etc.

● Microsoft Word​ ​is highly useful for creating text of large volume.

● It also helps you send documents to a group of people for feedback.

Features:

● Customize font: color, size, style to make it more attractive.


● Save the file and access it later and then send it to someone, print it or edit it.
● Comes with built-in functions for writing mathematical equations and expressions.
● Save and Save As feature which can be used to save files on the default location or save files on
a specific location, respectively.
● Align text in different way such as Left, Center or Right.
● Different printing features like adding watermark to the page, changing the size and orientation
of the paper.
● You can view file how it will be printed on the paper before actually printing the file using print
preview feature and many more.

QUESTION#6: What is Internet and E – Mail? Write advantages and disadvantages of internet.

Internet?

Internet:

It is a biggest source of information, communication, and advertising. It connects computer all over the
world and though internet, people can share information and communicate from anywhere with an
internet connection whether wirelessly or wired.

Advantages:
● Source of information:​ It is a great source of variety of information. We can find latest trends,
talk to specialist without actually visiting them and get professional assistance through the
internet
● Source of Entertainment: ​Chatting, online games, browsing, watching videos of any type, and
reading articles, etc.
● Online Shopping: ​It is one of most popular because of virtual shops where you can buy anything
you want without even going out of home. You can also order from shops which are not in your
country and use foreign products.
● Collect Data: ​Through internet many companies like Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft and
Amazon collects data from users which can be further used for improving Artificial Intelligence
and then using that technology in robots, self-driving cars like Tesla, rockets and computers, etc.

Disadvantages:
A Waste of Time: ​Long usage of social applications such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp can
have bad impact on our life because we will be wasting our time thinking that we are being
entertained.
Not Safe for Children:​ Internet is filled with every kind of information and parents are often worried
if they are spending too much time on the internet. Pornography and unethical communities are
available on the internet so, no one can say that internet is a safe place for children until used with
certain limitations.
Privacy Exposure:​ In the world of internet your privacy is not protected because of hackers around
the world they can very easily hack someone’s chat or email messages. Even the big companies like
Facebook and Google are keeping track of our activities and they have all the data such as location,
our interest, contacts and much more.
Viruses/Malware:
Often our systems get infected from viruses and damage our important data which is difficult to
recover or they can download our personal data in their systems through viruses or even control our
systems. These viruses are transported via the internet and USBs, etc.

QUESTION#7: Define web page and website. Write any three websites which can be used for
searching data?

Web Page:
A web page is a hypertext (textual and graphical) document on the world wide web (an information
system on the internet which allows documents to be connected to other documents by links,
enabling users to search for documents with links) or it is a simple document displayable by a
browser such as Chrome, these types of documents are written in the HTML language (a language
for creating web pages).

Website:
Whereas, a website is a set of related web pages located under a single domain name (such as
google.com), typically produced by a single person or an organization.

Following websites can be used for searching data across the internet:

● Google (​www.google.com​)
● Bing (​www.bing.com​)
● Yahoo (​www.yahoo.com​)

QUESTION#8: What is computer. Define its basics parts?


An electronic device for storing and processing information, it has the ability to store, recover
and process data/information. It can be used to type documents, send emails, play games, and
browse the web.

Basics Parts of Computer:


● CPU – already answered what is CPU in the above question.
● Graphics Processing Unit (GPU or Graphics Card) – used for processing graphical tasks.
Best examples include video editing, rendering and gaming.
● RAM (Random Access Memory) – used for storing data temporary while the application
is running when the system is turned off all the data in the RAM is deleted.
● Storage: Hard Disk – used for storing data permanently on the system.
● A motherboard – helps to create a link between different hardware such as CPU, GPU,
RAM and Hard Disk and other physical components of the computer. Think of it as a
medium for communicating between different parts of the computer.
