Writing Test 19 Solutions

What if there was a way to work together and give back to our society? A way for young
students to do good in the community? As a representative of the school community, I want
to propose a way for schools to implement volunteering activities within students’ weekly
schedules. Not only are these activities a good way of giving back to the community, but
they also encourage team work skills.

Firstly, with rising climate change and global warming concerns ever-present in our
society, planting trees becomes an integral way to mitigate its effects. Moreover, planting
trees is also a great volunteering activity for students to engage in as it is a way to give back
to the community. Whether it be spending 2 hours or 2 days, research has shown that
voluntarily planting trees has many environmental and social benefits within the
community. For example, planting trees in parks and gardens improves the overall
aesthetic of the community by making it ’greener’. The simple act of voluntarily planting
the tree creates a sense of ownership within students, allowing them to take pride in their
work, as well as take responsibility for the environment. This can foster good habits for our
future generations and help restore some of the damage our environment has experienced.

Not only this, but by encouraging volunteering, students can prioritise their mental health.
When asked in a student survey, it was reported that people’s mental health was improved
through volunteering, and it served as a means for stress reduction and gave students a
sense of purpose. For example, one student found that being a member of the Volunteering
Committee at school encouraged her to be more confident and voice her opinions on
charities/causes that she thought could benefit from their help. She also found that
volunteering was a perfect activity to break up monotonous, school routine, and the break
energised her. This suggests that volunteering drives students to feel accomplished and
fulfilled outside of academic achievements, contributing to their overall well-being and
mental health.

Furthermore, volunteering teaches a number of skills to students, which can be

immediately transferrable within the workforce as they get older. One such skill is
collaboration. Volunteering encourages students to work together as a team in order to
achieve a common goal, and this experience can be applied to various workplace settings.
Additionally, volunteering often involves planning and executing events or initiatives,
which can develop project management and organizational skills. These skills are highly
sought after within the workforce, and by developing them from a young age, students can
gain a competitive advantage in the job market. Therefore, volunteering is an essential
activity for students to engage in if they wish to become future leaders. Thus, volunteering
can not only benefit the individual student, but also the wider society and economy.

As such, schools should consider implementing volunteering activities for their students to
benefit the school and wider communities. Volunteering is an excellent way to preserve
and give back to the community, fosters a balanced lifestyle and teaches students many
highly desirable skills.
