Reflection On Filipino Values
Reflection On Filipino Values
Write a reflection paper on Filipino values. Here are some guide questions that you may
answer:
• What are Filipino values?
• How do Filipino values influence your daily life?
• What are your core values that guide you in your daily life?
• How will you instill Filipino values in Filipino children in the future?
Filipino values are part of who we are as people and as a community. They are not just
traditions or customs but deeply embedded in our culture and shape our day-to-day lives. The
ideals of unity, respect, family, and shared responsibility represent the very heart of what being
Filipino is all about. Upon reflecting on the values presented and how they influence my life, I
realize that value attributes not only contribute to a person's personal development but also reflect
our way of relating to others and contributing to society. In this reflection, I will discuss the
significance of Filipino values in influencing my life and my plans for incorporating these values
into my future teaching practice.
Filipino values are intertwined in everything that we do. They can be traced back to our
historical culture, strengthened by our indigenous beliefs, and influenced by our colonization and
strong sense of community. These values create a distinctive set of principles that embody what
characterizes the Filipino identity—in unity, respect, and the interconnectedness between family
and society. To me, these values serve as the basis for how I communicate, respond to situations,
and give importance to relationships with other people. They inspire me to offer a foundation for
understanding how to live meaningfully and in harmony within my community. I learned to face
every day with a smile, kindness, empathy, and respect. By living according to these values, I
strengthen bonds with my family and friends, as well as others I encounter throughout life, build
trust, and seek to lift those around me up. They make up the person I am and inspire me to
contribute positively to the world.
Among these core Filipino values, I was most affected by three of them: respect, close
family ties, and pakikisama. Respect is the basis of a healthy community because it brings
consideration and oneness into it. Respect instills in me a sense of respecting other people's
perceptions as well and treating everyone with dignity, regardless of their background or
relationship with me. It is a value that builds trust and unity in both personal and communal
relationships. Close family ties are also one of the values that hold great importance for me. My
family supports me at every stage of my life, and I also feel an immense sense of responsibility
toward them. Family is where I learn how to give, love, and be generous with others. The third
one is pakikisama, which emphasizes camaraderie and cooperation. This reminds me to be
sensitive to other people's feelings and to be accommodating in different circumstances that keep
the harmony working. Pakikisama encourages me to be an active participant in group dynamics
with peaceful and supportive relationships. These values together create a framework that guides
my response to the world associated with other people, shapes my approach to challenges, and
forms a harmonious environment wherever I go.
I always wanted to be a teacher, and I would love to look ahead into the future and instill
values in the children of my country, the Philippines. The way to put this into action is by example,
demonstrating them myself. It's very powerful because children learn best through seeing the
values. To me, as a future teacher, I am committed to showing these values inside the classroom.
I look toward a learning environment in which every student can feel valued and supported as an
individual while motivated to develop meaningful relationships with others. Modeling respect,
kindness, and cooperation should help my students internalize such values. That way, they will
know that through such values, they will be able to make a better contribution to their families,
communities, and to the rest of the world.
In conclusion, Filipino values have become not only part of our heritage but a significant
force shaping our lives and society. Indeed, as a teacher in the future, it would be my job to instill
these values in my students so that they will understand their worth and how these can make their
lives better and more fulfilling. I wish that my students, inspired and dignified by living up to these
values, will become responsible and compassionate individuals, thus bringing harmony and
support to the world community. Through the teaching of Filipino values in a setting such as this,
I hope to nurture a future where beauty and unity are truly honored in our culture, thereby forming
a better world for all.
