Assignment 1

Q.No. 1. In the power processor in Figure 1, assume that energy efficiency is 100%. The input
voltage is 230V rms, and line input current 10 A (rms). Calculate: the output power, load resistance
and load current, assuming that output voltage is equal 60VDC.

Q.No.2 Consider a linear regulated DC power supply (Fig.2). The instantaneous input voltage
correspond to the waveform in Figure 3, where V d, min = 20V and V d, max=30V. Approximate this
waveform by a triangular wave consisting of two linear segments between the above two values.
Assume that V o=15V and the output load is constant, Calculate the energy efficiency in this part of
the power supply due to losses in the transistor.
The figure above shows a simplified DC-DC converter circuit diagram. When the switch is on, all the
load current (the current from the current source in the right-hand part of the figure) flows through
the switch (transistor) which has a constant conduction voltage drop of 1.7 V. When the switch is
off, the load current flows through the free-wheeling diode, which has a constant conduction
voltage drop of 1.2 V.

the point of operation in question, the switching times for the switch are determined by the
following rates of change:

At turn-on: di/dt = 100 A/s

dv/dt = -1000 V/s
At turn-off: di/dt = -70 A/s
dv/dt = 800 V/s
Q.No. 4 Consider a switch mode DC power supply represented by the circuit in Figure 6. The input
DC voltage V d=20V, the switching duty ratio D=0.75 and the switching frequency is 10kHz. Calculate
the Fourier components of v oi using the description of Fourier analysis
