Homework Stage 3 Term 4 2024

English Term 4

Reading:
● 15-20 minutes of sustained reading daily.
● Recount the text you have read to a parent or family member. Summarise the main idea and purpose.
● Answer some who, what, when, where, why and how questions around the text you have read to your parent/older
family member. Create your questions before, during and after reading.
● Make connections as you read to experiences you have shared, connections to other texts you have viewed or events
around the world.
● Make inferences about characters’ actions, thoughts and feelings by interpreting text and images.
Writing:
This term our focus is on Imaginative texts, including poetry. We will be learning to use our knowledge of sentence
structures, grammar and punctuation to create character descriptions that engage and entertain the reader. Students will
practise writing sentences including interesting literary devices such as similes, metaphors, personification and alliteration.

Overview of learning focus: Students will:


● investigate the effects of sudden geological changes and extreme weather events on the Earth’s surface, for
example: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, cyclones, storms, drought and floods
● investigate ways that advances in science and technology have assisted people to plan for and manage natural
disasters to minimise their effect, for example:
− design and construction of buildings and roads
− detection systems for tsunamis
− digital flood and fire warning systems
● investigate internal and external components of digital systems that perform functions
explore how the main components of digital systems connect together to form networks that transmit data
describe how data can be transmitted between two digital components, for example: − wired networks − wireless
networks

Geography Term 4 - A Diverse and Connected World


Overview of learning focus: Students explore countries of the Asia region and the connections Australia has with other
countries across the world. Students learn about the diversity of the world’s people, including the indigenous peoples of
other countries. Students will explore and reflect upon similarities, differences and the importance of intercultural
understanding.
