Topic: PLAY -BASED EDUCATION : AN APPROACH TOO BOOST THE LEARNERS’ READING COMPETENCY
Insights and Realizations:
Play-based education is rooted in the understanding that play is a natural and essential part of
childhood and that children learn best when they are actively engaged in activities that are meaningful
and enjoyable to them. Active engagement of learnings can result in a high understanding of learning.
The play-based strategy that the teacher used has a great influence on the learning of the pupils. This
approach fosters cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development through exploration, creativity,
and hands-on experiences.
Plan of Action:
When I go back to my station, I am planning to select play-based instructions in my reading class to
allow my learners to engage more in our class. I will encourage them to be more active learners rather
than passive learners.

Topic: ENHANCING LANGUAGE, READING AND LITERACY THROUGH SHARED READING APPROACHES
FOR LEARNERS.
Insights and Realizations:
Shared reading is an interactive teaching strategy where teachers read aloud with the learners.
The teacher models first the reading text to the learners. I am also practicing this in my class. I used the
BDA or before reading, during reading and after reading. I asked motivational questions before reading,
made pauses and asks questions during reading and ask comprehension questions after reading.
In this session, I realized that the teacher is the most impactful factor in the success of shared
reading because she serves as a model to the learners. The way the teacher pronounces words and
makes pauses has a great impact on the learning process of the children.
Plan of Action:
When I go back to my station, I am planning to select narrative texts that are suited to the levels of
my learners. I will apply also the techniques in teaching shared reading.

Topic: UNLOCKING LITERACY: THE GUIDED READING APPROACH FOR ENHANCING LANGUAGE AND
READING SKILLS IN LEARNERS
Insights and Realizations:
Guided reading can happen in a huge class. A teacher should group the learners strategically
based on their teaching levels, skills, and interests. The literacy skills targeted in guided reading are
decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, listening, and speaking.
The most valuable impact of guided reading in the classroom is that the teacher must be
reflective and take note of the observable behaviors of the learners to determine their reading level and
needs.
In this session, I have a lot of realizations especially when dealing with challenge learners. As a
teacher, we should always give our best to address the needs of our learners.
Plan of Action:
I select guided reading strategies that are suited to the needs of our learners. I must plan out the
activities that will be given to them.

Topic: CIRCLE OF READERS: THE ROUND ROBIN READING APPROACH FOR STRENGTHENING LANGUAGE
AND LITERACY SKILLS IN LEARNERS
Insights and Realizations:
It is crucial for the learners to be aware of their own thought processes because it enhances their
ability to learn effectively and adaptively.
Questions are the ultimate tool in any teaching strategy because it requires many skills like
understanding, critical thinking, and problem solving.
Plan of Action:
Reflecting on the content of the session, I am planning to use the steps in teaching the round robin
approach for strengthening language and literacy skills in learners.

Topic: UNDERSTANDING COLONIALISM AND COLONIALITY IN THE CONTEXT OF LANGUAGE TEACHING
Insights and Realizations:
Learners that know how to use the native language can comprehend well and express their ideas
more effectively, which plays a significant role in their overall academic and cognitive development. This
experience was a challenge for me because some of my learners learned English first as their first
language. What I did was I used to present words with the aid of pictures to associate the meaning of the
words and I also let them pair to their classmates who are proficient in both native language and English
language. These were my bridging strategies. This journey, while challenging, has been incredibly
rewarding, reminding me that every learner’s voice is important.
Plan of Action:
After participating in today’s session, I learned about multilingual learners where they have different
levels of proficiency in their languages.
Reflecting on the content of the masterclass, I am planning to be more innovative in my strategies in
dealing with these multilingual learners.
