CONCEPT NOTES
COMPOSITION OF FUNCTION

Let f and g be functions, the composite function is denoted by

( f ∘ g ) ( x ) =f ( g(x ) )
Read as “f composed with g of x ” or “ f of g of x” it means to copy the f function down but wherever you see an x, substitute in the g function.

The process of obtaining composite function is called function composition.

Solving a composite function is similar to evaluating a function, there is a function that will be used as input and another function will be used as a machine, then
the output would be the composite function.

To Solve Composite Functions, here are the following steps.

(1.) Write the function.


(2.) Replace x with the input function g(x) or f(x)
(3.) Substitute the function with the value of the input function g(x) or f(x)
(4.) Simplify the function.
