REVIEW
“Can you still remember the sentence “Yes/No ma’am.”
patterns that you learned during your
previous years or currently?”

“Some basic patterns are S-IV (Subject -

Intransitive Verb), S-TV-DO (Subject -
Transitive Verb - Direct Object), S-TV-
DO-OC (Subject - Transitive Verb -
Direct Object - Object Complement), S-
LV-C (Subject - Linking Verb -
Complement), and S-TV-IO-DO (Subject
- Transitive Verb - Indirect Object -
Direct Object).”

“The first pattern is S-IV, S stands for

Subject, it is any noun, pronoun or noun
phrase that does the action in a sentence.
It is most often found in the beginning of
a sentence. On the other hand, IV stands
for Intransitive Verb, it is a verb that
does not require a direct object to
complete its meaning. In other words, the
action of the verb is self-contained and
does not affect a direct object.”

“Next is S-TV-DO, S stands for subject,

TV stands for Transitive Verb, and it is a
verb that requires a direct object to
complete its meaning. Meanwhile, DO
stands for Direct Object, this answers the
question ‘what’ or ‘whom’ after the
verb.”

“The S-TV-DO-OC patterns follows a

Subject, Transitive Verb, Direct Object,
and Object Complement. The Object
Complement tells us something about the
direct object.”

“The fourth pattern is the easiest one, S-

LV-C, the Subject is followed by a
Linking Verb, which connects the subject
to a word or phrase that renames or
describes the subject. While C is for
Complement, the complement gives
information about the subject.”

“Lastly, we have S-TV-IO-DO, the

Subject is followed by a Transitive Verb,
Indirect Object which tells us ‘to whom’
or ‘for whom’ the action is done, and
followed by a Direct Object.”

“With those in mind, are you ready to “Yes, ma’am!”

start our lesson?”

“Very good!”
MOTIVATION
“Before we start our lesson for today, I “Yes, ma’am!”
have a short activity for you! I am going
to distribute a copy of a short paragraph
and you have to read them silently, after
you are done, I will ask a series of
questions. Are you ready?”

"The Importance of Recycling"

Recycling protects the environment. By
reprocessing materials like paper, plastic,
and metal, we reduce the need for raw
materials and minimize waste in
landfills. People recycle paper and
plastic. This process not only conserves
natural resources but also reduces energy
consumption and pollution. Communities
consider recycling important. For
example, recycling aluminum saves up to
95% of the energy needed to produce
new aluminum from raw materials. The
Earth is valuable. Additionally,
companies give people new recycling
bins. Recycling helps mitigate climate
change by lowering greenhouse gas
emissions. Through consistent recycling
efforts, individuals and communities can
significantly contribute to a healthier and
more sustainable planet.

PRESENTATION
“Today, we’re going to learn about “Yes/No, ma’am!”
informative essays and its techniques.
Additionally, we will also learn how to
use Cuisenaire Rods to better understand
and construct sentences based on five
basic patterns to help us in writing
essays. Do you know what Cuisenaire
Rods are?”

“For those who are not familiar,

Cuisenaire rods are a set of colored rods
of different lengths, each representing a
specific concept. They are used as a
hands-on tool to teach various concepts.”
“Are you ready to learn how to use them “Yes ma’am!”
in helping you construct sentences?”
Students’ answers.
“But before we can do that, I will paste
the basic sentence patterns on the board
and show the color of each element to
help us better understand the concept of
the tool.”

“Each color of the rod represents a part

of a sentence. For example:

Red: Subject
Blue: Intransitive Verb
Yellow: Transitive Verb
Orange: Direct Object
Purple: Object Complement
Green: Linking Verb
Pink: Complement
Brown: Indirect Object

“These rods will help us see and

physically arrange the parts of a
sentence.”
DISCUSSION
“With all of that in mind, let us now
learn about informative essays. An
informative essay is an essay aimed at
providing details and facts to educate
your reader on a specific topic.
Informative essays strive to present
information void of any type of bias.
This means you are not to insert your
personal opinions.”

“It is meant to inform others using

credible sources as evidence – facts,
statistics, and other research data.
Informative texts usually answer the five
Ws: who, where, when, what, and why.
Sometimes, they also describe “how” to
do or accomplish something.”

“Just like any type of writing,

informative texts follow a structure – the
introduction, body, and conclusion. The
introduction is where the thesis statement
is found. The most important component
of informative writing is thought to be
the thesis statement. Writers define key
terms and concepts, present the main
idea, and briefly outline the topics of
discussion in addition to stating the thesis
statement.”

“The body is where the thesis statement

is fully explained. Evidence such as
facts, statistics, statements from experts,
and other supporting details are found
here. Information sources must be cited
in this section. The evidence will serve as
the foundation for determining whether
the data is accurate, dependable, and
fair.”

“The conclusion is where he thesis

statement is restated, this also highlights
the informative text's main points. Since
every concept must have been covered in
the body, no additional evidence needs to
be provided at this time.”

“Other features and techniques of

informative writing must be taken into
account in addition to the structure. The
author's tone or attitude toward the
subject comes first. The author should
always approach the subject with
formality, objectivity, and neutrality. As
explained previously, fact-based
information is the foundation of
informative writing; biased information
is not acceptable. Informational writing
is not the place for the writer's views and
opinions. Second, be specific at all times.
Answer the five Ws and one H of the
subject you are writing about in detail.
Make use of unbiased, formal, and clear
language. Additionally, remember to
utilize transitional words to ensure a
coherent and seamless flow of ideas. By
doing this, readers can obtain a much
better comprehension of the information
they have read.”

“Informative essays can be different

lengths, but all strong informative
writing uses certain techniques. Here are
some of the best tips to help you write a
great informative essay:

1. Open with an attention grabber

and conclude with a summary of
the main points of the essay.
2. Use appropriate transitional
words to ensure the logical flow
of ideas.
3. Observe formal tone.
4. Utilize proper language and
applicable vocabulary to the
topic. Similarly, avoid biased
language.
5. Make use of formatting, nonlinear
texts such as flowcharts, graphs,
graphic organizers, and digital
texts with hyperlinks when
needed.
