CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
We would like to welcome you to the group of C⋅A⋅T V5 users.
This handbook will introduce you to the user interface of the C⋅A⋅T desks and enable
you to learn step-by-step about the functions of the software in advance or even while
operating your system. This handbook will help you come to terms with the system and
provide you with specific content for additional reading later on.
System-specific details are not covered in this handbook. If you have any
questions regarding the installed machines, please refer to the corresponding
documentation. The first chapter will provide you with some insight into the first steps
needed to program a show. Don't worry if you do not understand all of the buttons or
functions at the beginning. You will find a detailed explanation of all functions later on
in this manual. For starters, let's assume that you are the only person working with the
C⋅A⋅T SYSTEM. Working with several control panels at the same time will be discussed
in a later chapter.
Don't worry if you have any problems with the system, you are not alone. Our
Service department will help you with identifying and resolving any errors, see
"C⋅A⋅T SERVICE" (on page 204).
The scope of this manual covers the standard software of the desks: C⋅A⋅T 562,
C⋅A⋅T 560, C⋅A⋅T 552, C⋅A⋅T 550, C⋅A⋅T 530, C⋅A⋅T 530R, C⋅A⋅T 520, C⋅A⋅T 500.
The following system schema provides you with an overview of the system components.
1.1. NETWORK
All system components in our standard system are redundantly connected via an
Ethernet network. If one network component fails, the system is still completely
connected via the second independent network and operation is ensured.
Comment: Depending on the system, the redundant design can be dispensed with,
deviating from our standard. In this case, please refer to the system-specific part of
the manual for further details.
1.2. SERVER
The two system servers are the central element of the system. These are also
redundant so that in the event of an error, the other server can always take over.
The series components are connected to the mains via a UPS (uninterruptible power
supply). In this way, the system can continue to be used for a defined period of time in
the event of a power failure.
Comment: The exact remaining duration depends on the dimensioning of the UPS.
For detailed information, please refer to the system-specific part of the handbook.
1.3. AXIO 5
The AXIO 5 is the safe I/O interface to the drives. It is plugged into the backplane,
which connects all electrical inputs/outputs of the Axio to the drive components. On the
side of AXIO 5 there are 4x RJ45 network connections. The Axio is connected to the
network via 2 of these connections. The port to which the network cables are connected
is irrelevant.Because the Axio is only connected to the backplane via connector strips,
the AXIO 5 can easily be unplugged for maintenance.
When a machine is selected, the Axio checks whether the machine is ready to run and
switches on the drive's main contactor. Pressing the approval button or approval bars
on the desk issues approval to move, the load is held and the brakes are opened.
Comment: There may be deviations from this, depending on the system and type
of machine. For detailed information, please refer to the system-specific part of the
handbook.
The Axio checks the condition of the machines through all safety functions at all times.
If an error is detected, the Axio switches off the drive and an error alert is displayed
on the desk.
1.4. BACKPLANE
There are different types of backplanes, each with different characteristics to meet
different requirements:
— Rack 5
— Duplicorn
— Mini Rack 5
1.6. PRINTER
A printer can be connected to the network, which can be used to print out the show
sequence.
1.7. TELEMAINTENANCE
The server cabinet also contains a firewall / router that connects the system to the
internet. Remote maintenance of the system is carried out via a secure connection.
Store these instructions in a safe place for future reference. You can also call up the
documentation from the desk at any time, see "Webhelp & Tutorials" (on page 164).
2.1. INSTRUCTION
Before using the C⋅A⋅T SYSTEM, users must be instructed on the following contents.
— Organisational measures to minimise risks
— Safety-relevant notes in this user manual
In the end, only you decide whether a machine is moved or not. Ensure that you are
calm and careful. Avoid rushing.
— Check the emergency stop button for function every working day before each use.
Comment: As a rule, all machines in the system are stopped with the emergency
stop button. In some systems this may be configured differently. If emergency stop
zones have been configured in your system, individual plug-in points (OUTLET 500)
are sometimes assigned to specific machines. For further information, please refer to
the site-specific part of the user handbook.
Warning: In this step, first check the emergency stop button for correct function.
Therefore, make sure that no persons or objects can be in the operating range of
the machine.
›› The machine now displays the error text for the emergency stop and the machine
comes to an immediate stop.
"ERROR". Tap ERROR to acknowledge the alert and then tap again to reactivate the
cues.
Important: When inserting the CABLE 500, take note of the small red dot. The
red dot on the socket and the one on the connector must be aligned. Depending on
the design, the connection socket could be located underneath or on the side of the
OUTLET 500.
›› The On/Off button lights up green. The desk switches on and displays the Login
screen.
Figure 9: Login screen
Next, you can log in to the desk using one of the following methods:
— "Logging in with a chip card" (on page 9)
— "Login with Password" (on page 10)
Comment: In order to try out the examples provided in the manual, certain
rights will need to be assigned to your C⋅A⋅T RFID-KARTE.Please contact your system
administrator to find out more about your system permissions. Depending on your
permissions, certain functions may be deactivated.
In order to obtain access to the system, insert your card into the slot provided in the
desk. On the C⋅A⋅T 562 and the C⋅A⋅T 560, this is located at the front left.
2. Select your account from the list. By clicking the "Down arrow" key, or by swiping
the screen upwards, you can scroll down through the list.
Comment: If you can't find your account in the list, it may be hidden by default.
See if the last button in the list: "Show hidden users" and click on it once.
›› The screen displays the login screen after a set waiting time.
1. Press the ► menu button in the upper left-hand corner, the symbol with the 3
lines, to open the Navigation menu.
2. Press ► Log out.
›› This switches the touch-screen and all of the buttons and control lever off. The
system continues to run in the background. The emergency stop button is also still
active and illuminated.
By pressing the On/Off button again, the desk can be activated again quickly.
If you want to unplug the desk from the OUTLET 500, follow the steps below:
— Unplug the cable from the desk by pulling the ring on the connector with your thumb
and index finger.
— Unplug the cable from the OUTLET 500 in the same way.
It doesn't matter in which order you perform these operations.
Important: The connector is locked in the socket. To release this lock, grip the
ring of the connector with your thumb and index finger and pull it out of the
socket. Do not pull on the cable itself. This would damage the cable.
You can connect a USB mouse and/or a USB keyboard. To do this, use the USB ports
located on the front and rear of the desk.
Troubleshooting: If your USB storage media has been inserted, but is not being
displayed or the export is not working, check whether the device has been formatted
with the FAT32 file format.
3. Press ► Confirm.
›› You have now created a new show and are taken directly to the first page.
A window will open in which you can highlight and select your machines by
tapping the respective machine fields.
Comment: You can recognise a marked machine by the machine field, which
is coloured light blue.
Comment: Some machines cannot be selected for a move together with other
machines.machines that are available for further selection have a light blue frame.
Comment: Other machines may be further down the selection. Swipe your
finger across the screen to scroll up or down.
Tip: If you press a machine a second time, the highlighting will be removed.
2. You can finish your selection by pressing on the desired control unit further down.
This closes the window.
Warning: Check to ensure that these are the machines that you want to use.In
the right-hand area of the row you will see the selected machines
4. You should also ensure these machines can be moved without any risk.
5. Check to ensure the green status display is illuminated on each machine
field.Further details can be found under "Machine fields" (on page 41).
The next steps for moving the machines are dependent on the selected control unit
type (C⋅A⋅T GEARS).
Warning: Please keep an eye at all times on the machines that you move via the
desk! This applies in particular to machines, which may only be moved "by sight":
Actorlifts and all horizontally moving equipment with long breaking ramps such
as stage wagons and revolving stages. For further information, please refer to
the site-specific part of the user handbook.
›› The LED arrow indicator above and below the control lever should now light
up in the appropriate colour to indicate that the drive is selected and therefore
ready to drive.
2. Move the control lever in the desired direction.
a) Move lever upwards = machine moves upwards
b) Move lever downwards = machine moves downwards
The direction of travel of horizontally moving machines and rotating machines,
such as revolving platforms, may vary depending on the version.
With revolving platforms / stages, the move will take place as follows:
— Move lever upwards = move in the direction of a larger angle
Comment: The upper and lower free run limit can be smaller than the possible
movement range. This can be used to ensure that a machine can approach a
position during a free run without a target, which should only be used in special
cases and where there are particular risks.
Troubleshooting: If one or more of the machines are not moving, check the
respective machine field to see whether the machine has been selected (green
light) and which control unit it has been assigned to.
Fast path: If you want to specify a specific target position, continue reading here
"Move machines to the same target position" (on page 45).
›› An input screen will appear. Depending on the selected field, this will contain
the respective setting options for adjusting the move.
2. Enter a new value in the field or select a value from the available options.
This means you can change a value on the left-hand side of the screen by
touching the corresponding field and then changing the value via the input field
that appears. You should simply try this out yourself by pressing one of the
parameter fields. An input screen will open with the possible input options, which
are based on the selected field.
The machine fields have a special feature: When you press one or more machines,
you will only be able to enter targets for the selected machines. These and the other
fields will be dealt with in detail in the section "Programming shows" (on page
43).
Fast path: Instead of entering 0.2, it is also possible to enter .2. The 0 will
automatically be added to the system.
In the previous section, we added a move to the first and currently only page of the
show. This section explains the terms and relationships:
site site - The site describes your installation and thus the entire system, consisting of all
components. Several sites can be set up in the same building. This is the case, for
example, when rehearsal stages or different venues are set up separately with their
own servers.
stage A stage is either a venue within a facility (location) or, in the case of a virtual stage, a
virtual simulation of the respective real stage.
repertoire The repertoire describes the list of all shows in a system. In this view, shows can be
managed and opened.
show A show can be a production, or a template for certain standard recurring tasks.
chapter A chapter is a section (play section) of a show. This can be used, to divide a show
into several acts (1. Act 2, Act 3, Act) to be subdivided. Chapters can also be used for
separation, to separate the scene setup or an change over from the scenic cues.
page A show consists of at least one, but usually several pages. The pages provide a show
a sequential structure. This way several moves can be started simultaneously or
consecutively on one page. A page therefore always represents a short (time-based)
section of a show. It has a number and a name that can be chosen freely.
cue
A cue is used to determine when specific moves should be triggered. Cues have the
following label fields:
— cue name
— cue number
The system automatically separates moves on different control units into cues. It
follows:
— Transformations are always assigned to a control unit.
— A maximum of as many cues can be programmed on each page as there are control
units available.
— As soon as at least one move has been created, the label fields of the cue appear
automatically above the trip.
move A move represents the movement of one or more machines or an object with defined
move properties. The driving characteristics include the synchronization mode, speed
and some other parameters.Multiple moves can be assigned to the same control
unit. This enables multiple moves with different properties or settings to be triggered
at the same time.
machine From the operator's point of view, a machine is the smallest selectable and movable
unit. From the point of view of the control system, this is a logical unit of drives.
drive A drive is the technically mobile unit consisting of an AXIO 5 safety motion I/O
controller, a motor, brakes and, if necessary, a frequency converter. A machine can
include multiple synchronised drives, which can however usually only be moved
together by the control system, e.g. rope-driven stage platforms which are driven by
two mechanically independent motors synchronised via the control system. Personnel
who have received appropriate training can also move individual drives in maintenance
mode.
Page controls Directly below this you will see the information and function rows related to the
page.Starting on the left with the page number, the page name and some functions:
— ► Add page
— ► Browse pages
— ► ... Menu for more actions
As well as the buttons for creating a move:
— ► ad-hoc
— ► In cue
Display the On the left-hand side of the screen you will see a display of the previous page, and on
previous and the right-hand side the cues of the next two pages.
next pages:
Comment: The number of pages displayed here can be defined in the user
preferences, see "User settings" (on page 167).However, a maximum of three
previous or following pages can be displayed in total.
Cues and moves Below the first row you will see the cues and moves of this page.
— The cue for the blue control lever "Bl" contains a move.
— The cue with the yellow control lever "Yl" contains two moves.
Switch through In the lower left and right-hand corners you will find buttons for switching to the
pages: previous or next page.
Tip: Apart from these two buttons on the screen, you can also use the two < and
> hardware buttons (below the screen), to switch backwards and forwards between
the pages.
1. Press the page number on the left in the row at the top.
Tip: In addition to using the touch-screen, you can also enter the number via a
USB keyboard and confirm the entry with Enter (Return).
Comment: You can also enter intermediate values separated with a decimal
point, for example13.5 or 12.1. The entered number must be unique within the
show.
›› The new page number has been saved and the page has been moved to the
appropriate position within the chapter.
You can change the page name using the following steps:
— In order to generate a permanent move on the page, press the button ► In cue.
— In order to generate an Ad-hoc move, press the ► ad-hoc button.
1. Press ► In cue.
›› The newly created move is displayed in the work area and automatically receives a
field for entering a cue names and a cue number.
In order to create a new Ad-hoc move, you should complete the following steps:
1. Press ► ad-hoc .
›› The newly created Ad-hoc move is displayed in the work area with a white
border and the label AD-HOC is displayed. If only one AD-HOC move is active,
the information text AD-HOC also appears on the OLED button of the module
concerned.
Tip: If you have selected a machine which is currently rigged in a rigged group,
(see "Rig / Unrig" (on page 84)), a note appears in the machine selection
in which you can select whether you want to load the rigged group or the
individual machine(s). With the latter option, you can use the individual machines
for programming the show independently of whether or not it is rigged, but you
cannot select and move them in this state.
Tip: Ad-hoc moves are normally retained when the page is changed and are not
automatically deleted. If you want ad-hoc moves to be automatically deleted when
the page is changed, you will find a corresponding option in the "user settings
of the shows" (on page 168).
Here you will find out how (hereafter on the current page) to add a new page.
›› You have created a new page behind the current one. The system switches to the
newly created page.
6.1.5. ...MENU
In the extended menu you will find further functions concerning the individual page.
These are:
— Automatically load next page:
— Add comment
— Paste
— Delete page
The next page loads automatically as soon as all cues have reached their target and
you have released the control lever.
›› "Auto" appears in the line of the page and the ► next button at the bottom right
of the page turns green. When all cues on the page have reached their target and
you have released the control lever, the next page is loaded automatically. This is
helpful when there is little time between two cues.
Tip: This also works when you drive with GO button. As soon as the machines
arrive at their target, the next page is loaded and activated. By pressing the GO
button, you can immediately start the next move.
Comment: If you always want to go to the next page automatically (for all
pages), you can activate this as a preference in the user settings for your account,
see "Settings of the shows" (on page 168).
›› You have defined a comment for the page. As soon as you load the page, this always
appears at the top of the page. To edit a comment simply click on the comment. To
delete a comment, click the trash icon on the right side of the comment.
Tip: You can also write multi-line comments. To do this, use the line jump key
(bottom right, above the Enter key) on the on-screen keyboard or press SHIFT
+ENTER on a connected hardware keyboard. The visible part of the comment
shows a maximum of 9 lines. If the comment contains more lines, a scrollbar
appears and you can swipe up within the comment field to read the lines below.
Important: A comment can also be read by a user with read-only access (Access
Show: 10-RunAShow) can be added or changed to note comments, anomalies or
deviations in the show process. This is also true when the show itself is locked
and cannot be changed. In this way, changes and notes can also be noted later
in the process.
Here you will find out how to delete the page that is currently loaded together with all
of its cues and moves.
›› The page has now been deleted. You will be taken automatically to theBrowse pages
screen.
Comment: If you accidentally delete a page, you can use the Undo function to
restore it and revoke the deletion.

›› The page is highlighted in colour and a list with control elements is displayed
in the column. The page is now selected.
2. In the Add page area, press ► Before or ► After .
Via this overview you can also move individual cues via drag-n-drop. This provides you
with the following possibilities:
— This is how you move a cue vertically (from top to bottom) - the cue remains on the
same page, but is assigned to a different control unit.
— This is how you move a cue horizontally (left to right) - the cue remains assigned to
the same control unit. It is moved to another page.
1. Tap the cue that is to be moved.
›› The cue is now selected. You can recognise this on the light-blue frame.
2. Press and hold the cue and drag it to the desired location.
You can also drag a cue to a field where another cue is already positioned. In such
a case, all moves from both cues will be joined together in one cue. For example, if
two cues should run sequentially at the beginning, and then at the same time when
a command is issued.
›› The cue is now selected. You can recognise this on the light-blue frame.
2. Press and hold the cue and drag it to the cue with which it is to be merged.
3. Confirm the merge with ► Confirm.
›› When merging two cues, the cue name and the cue number of the targetcue are
retained. All moves of both cues will be merged.
For some cues, the precise time of execution cannot be determined exactly in advance.
Because of this, you have the possibility to prepare cues for movement within a
specific page section. In other cases, continuous movement across multiple pages is
needed. For such cases, you can overlap a cue across multiple pages.
›› The cue is now selected. You can recognise this on the light-blue frame.
You will also see a slightly thicker frame on the left and right. These are the
contact points for setting the multi-page cue.
2. Press and hold the cue on the right or left edge, and then drag it to the beginning
or end of the desired location.
Comment: Please note that when setting a multi-page cue, the corresponding
up or downstream pages of the respective control unit must be empty. If the
corresponding control unit is still occupied on the respective pages, these cues will
need to be moved first of all. See "Move a cue" (on page 34).
›› Once you have set a multi-page cue across two pages as shown in this example, you
will be able to access the pages via both cue. A change, such as to the speed, will
always affect both pages, as it relates to one and the same cue. You can start the
cue on the first page and switch to the next page during the move, during which the
machines remain in motion. It is also possible to start the move on the second page.
use if you want to separate several test series from each other as part of the creation
phase of show.
If you click on a collapsed chapter, you can expand it again to view the individual pages.
Comment: The heading of the current chapter is visible even when a page is
active. This can be hidden in the user preferences if you do not want to use the chapter
functions or want to keep the space free for more page content, see "Settings of the
shows" (on page 168).
You will then find a button at the bottom with which you can switch to the manage mode
of the respective chapter.
First collapse the chapter to be changed by clicking on the heading once, see
"Collapse / expand a chapter" (on page 37). You can add more chapter before
or after an existing one. To do so, perform the following steps:
›› A new unnamed chapter has been created at the desired location. Now you can use
the chapter (expand) and, for example, add more pages to this chapter.
You can move an entire chapter within the show by cutting and pasting before or after
another chapter. First collapse the chapter to be changed by clicking on the heading
once, see "Collapse / expand a chapter" (on page 37).
›› The chapter now appears hatched. Every other chapter now gives you the
option to insert the edited chapter before or after it.
3. Click the desired location either
a) Before (insert before the chapter)
b) After (insert after the chapter)
Comment: You can also cancel the cut by clicking on the ► X at the bottom
right after you have cut a chapter.

or after another chapter. First collapse the chapter to be changed by clicking on the
heading once, see "Collapse / expand a chapter" (on page 37).
1. Press and hold the chapter and drag it to the desired location.
›› As you move the chapter, markers show the gap into which the chapter would
be moved if you were to let go at that moment. This way you can see whether
the application is on the desired location.
2. Place the chapter in the desired position by removing your finger from the screen.
›› You have now locked the chapter. This prevents unwanted changes to the cues and
the named target positions used.
First collapse the chapter to be changed by clicking on the heading once, see
"Collapse / expand a chapter" (on page 37).
Important: When you delete a chapter, you also delete all the pages and cues
it contains.
Tip: You can restore an accidentally deleted chapter immediately after deletion
by pressing ► Undo .
Comment: If the drive does not have an exact track measurement, the approximate
actual position is displayed with a "s" symbol (simulated position) in front of it.
rigged groups When using rigged groups, the group name is displayed at the top right and the group
icon at the bottom right.
input target During target entry, the start position of the movement is also displayed.
Option colors If the color blind option has been activated, an arrow points in the direction of the
blind control unit of the control panel. Double arrows or Triple arrows show the 2nd and 3rd
position respectively. row as seen from the center of the screen.
Small machine If a lot of machines have been selected for a move, the amount of information displayed
boxes is reduced automatically. See the following figure:
This ensures that even when there is a large number of active machines, all of the
machines that have been selected are visible.
Tip: If you want to select many machines within a move, you can save clicks
by first selecting the machines you do not want, and then using the ► invert
selection button.
›› You can now only move the selected machines as long as the target input screen
remains open. It is possible to enter a target position and switch to free run while
the selection remains. Closing the inspector resets the selection and all machines
in the move are active again.
7.2. TARGET-MOVES
In the examples used so far, we have moved the machines using the free run mode.
Now we specify a target position to stop the machines automatically when the target
is reached.
Targets can be entered and saved for one or all of the machines associated with a move.
Important: For target-moves that use control levers, the control lever must
always be moved upwards to move towards the target. This applies no matter
whether the machines are to move upwards or downwards.
Moving backwards:If the control lever is moved downwards, the machines will move
back to their previous positions.
Tip: The possible travel range of the machines is displayed in the input field.
›› The target position was set for all machines of this move.
Fast path: Different columns supplement the manual target entry to quickly
select frequently used or predefined targets:
Predefined targets are site-specific preconfigured targets, for direct selection
of frequently used target positions. They are marked with a crosshair and cannot
be deleted. You will also find a list of the target positions used in the show.
Positions used in the show offer you the choice of positions that have already
been used in the show for this machine.
Your last entries refer to the target positions you last entered (regardless of the
machine).
Comment: You can recognise a machine selected for target input by the
machine field, which is coloured light blue.
3. Enter the desired target position numerically and confirm with the ► confirmation
key (enter). Alternatively, you can select a predefined target exclusively for the
currently selected machines in the right-hand area under Positions for current
selection.
Comment: If your machines have different movement ranges, the display in the
input field always refers to the smallest common movement range of the currently
selected machines.
Comment: When changing from the free run to a target run, the current actual
position of the machine is automatically taken over for non-selected machines.
After a change from free run, check the positions of all machines. If necessary,
correct the positions of the remaining machines by repeating the procedure from
step 1.
4. Now select the next machines, which are to move to a different target position, and
repeat the procedure from step 1.
5. Touch outside the input screen to complete editing.
›› This means you have the option to enter different target positions for individual or
multiple machines. You can now move the machines to the new targets.
›› All machines of the move can be moved freely within the designated free-run travel
range. The switchover to free run takes place for all machines of the move.
Comment: Further details on the functions of the target input screen can be
found in the section "Target-Inspector (Target)" (on page 51).
Restriction: The free run cannot be activated if a GO button was selected as the
control element. In such a case, please select another control unit, a control lever
for example.
1. Press the control unit symbol in the desired row at the left of the screen.
2. Select the desired control unit, which you want to use from now on to control the
move.
The upper row shows the possible control levers, the lower row the possible go
buttons. All moves of a control lever module (of one color) must be assigned
either on the control lever or on a Go button. Note that moves on a Go button
can only be activated if a target position has been specified. The functionality
and special features of drives with go buttons are described in more detail in the
chapter "Executing a Cue with a Go Button" (on page 125).
Important: The system automatically ensures that all moves in a cue are
assigned to either a control lever or a Go button. If you change a single movement
from operation by control lever to operation by Go button, all movements of this
module are changed accordingly.
›› The change can be recognised by the colour and designation of the symbol.
Comment: If you have connected a C⋅A⋅T FOOT SWITCH to the desk and are
using it, see "Settings of the control units" (on page 170): In this case, a small
symbol also appears in the field of the control unit for movements by Go button.
This indicates that the C⋅A⋅T FOOT SWITCH is to be used instead of the approval
bars for this move.
7.3.2. START
|| It is possible to specify a defined start position for a move. The start field is not
usually displayed. If a start position needs setting manually, tap the arrow symbol
(here on the right side of the screenshot).
Normally, the target value of the last cue with this machine is taken as the start. If you
defined a start position for the move, the tick will be removed from the field ► Derive
start position from previous moves, and only the values that have been entered will
be used to calculate the move duration.
›› With a manual set start position, the calculation of the move always refers to the
entered start position.
In the target input screen , you define where the machines should move to.
In order to enter a target and name it so that it can be used repeatedly, you should
complete the following steps:
1. Press the target field for the move for which you would like to enter the target.
2. Select the desired target position from the suggestions ( Used in show or Last
used ) or enter the desired value manually.
3. To confirm the manual entry, press the ► confirmation key (enter).
4. If you entered the value manually, the target is still unnamed. It appears
► Unnamed in blue in the inspector. To save the value as a named position, press
the small pencil icon and then the input line.
›› By moving the control lever upwards, the target that has been set will be
approached.
›› With the Adjust target function you can edit existing targets by really moving the
machines, without actually knowing the precise target.
7.3.3.2. SAVE AS
If a named move has already been selected or saved in a target and you now want to
save a new destination without overwriting the previous named destination, proceed
as follows:
1. Open the target input screen .
2. Enter the positions for the machines.
3. Press the ► confirmation key (enter).
4. Press "Save as".
5. Now enter a name.
6. Press ► Confirm.
7. Touch outside the input screen to complete editing.
›› With this function you have created a new target and assigned it to the current
move.
›› Up to now, you have only changed the new position in the current move.
Tip: As long as the input screen remains open, you can move to the new target
position with the control lever. If the new target position meets expectations,
continue with the next step to apply the change to all moves. If not, you can
enter another target position by simply returning to step 2.
4. Press "Overwrite".
Comment: On the button you can also see whether the target to be overwritten
is already being used in another cue.
›› With the "Overwrite" function, the change is also applied to all other moves in the
show where this named target is used.
Comment: If instead you only want to change the target in this move, you can
also save the change in a new named target instead. See "Save as" (on page
53).
›› You have set the current position for the selected machines as the target position.
1. Click on the target field of a move (if you want to select all machines) or an
individual machine fields (if you want to enter the target position for individual
machines).
2. Press the ► Relative button. An "R" will appear in the input line. This means the
given value relates to the current position of the respective machine.
3. Now enter the desired distance upwards (+) / downwards (-). To switch between +
and -, press the ► +/- button .
4. Confirm your entry with the ► confirmation key (enter).
5. Touch outside the input screen to complete editing.
›› The target position of the individual machines has now been calculated based on
the current position and the given, relative distance.
Comment: The absolute target position resulting from the calculation is always
saved.
When entering your target, you can initiate automatic calculation of the interim target
position if you want to enter a straight line or a plane. To do so, proceed as follows.
1. Enter the target position for the "corner points" for those machines that you want
to predefine. This must be at least two.
2. Select all machines for which you have specified the target. Leave all machines un-
selected that are to be calculated automatically.
3. Press … and then "Calculate straight line" or "Calculate plane".
›› The system calculates the target position for the non-selected machines, thus
resulting in a straight line or plane. The physical distances between the machines
are taken into account.
Important: Please note that you must select at least 2 machines for the
"straight line" function, or at least 3 machines for the "in plane" function.
1. Press the trash icon of the named target you would like to delete.
Comment: You can tell from the appearance whether a named target has
already been used in a cues:
— If the targets appear in grey text and have a red trash symbol, the target has not
yet been used in a cue.
— If the targets appear in white text and have a grey trash symbol, the target is
already being used in at least one cue. Deleting a named target converts all
existing cues in an unnamed target with the same target positions.
Comment: If the target is still in use in a cue, the warning message will contain
the page number on which that named target is in use.
Restriction: Changing the speed is not possible if the move includes machines that
can only be moved at a fixed speed.
Comment: In the input field in the upper left-hand corner, you can enter a
possible speed range (minimum speed to maximum speed) for this move for the
machines in use.
›› The speed input screen was used to set the speed and Synchronisation type
behavior for this move. The resulting move move duration is displayed in the move
duration field . The selected Synchronisation type is displayed via the symbols in
the speed field .
— Speed-synchronous (standard setting):
If no symbol is displayed, the move will be speed-synchronous move.
Machines move at the same speed (asynchronous)
— Time-synchronous:
Comment: The speed and Synchronisation type can only be specified for the
move, not for each individual machine.
›› The new time limit has been adopted. If necessary, you can change the
synchronisation behaviour.
4. Select the desired Synchronisation type:
1. Speed-synchronous - ► Machines move at the same speed (asynchronous)
2. Time-synchronous - ► Machines reach their target at the same time (time-
synchronous)
3. Distance-synchronous - ► Machines move synchronously (distance-
synchronous)
5. Touch outside the input screen to complete editing.
Comment: Please note that the desired travel time for the movement between
the entered or derived start position and the target position is calculated. If the
machines are not at this start position, the speeds are not automatically adjusted
for safety reasons.
Comment: If the move is active, the remaining run time appears in green in the
top left-hand corner of the cell. See also "Performing a show" (on page 121).
The ramp field of a move can be used to control the approach and braking
characteristics for speed-controlled machines. Five different acceleration levels can
be selected.
Comment: In the input field in the upper left-hand corner, you can enter a
possible value range (minimum to maximum acceleration) for this move for the
machines in use.
Comment: The following details can provide some assistance when entering
values: 0.8 m/s² means an acceleration from 0 m/s to 0.8 m/s within 1 second.
›› If a ramp other than "Normal" is selected, the ramp field appears permanently in
the move. This shows the user that a non-standard ramp has been selected.
With the Shutdown group, the machines of one and several moves can be mutually
monitored in order to shut down together in the event of a fault.
For sites with standard shutdown turned off: If no group is defined, there is no
mutual monitoring of the machines in an asynchronous move. If one machine fails, the
other machines continue to run.
For sites with standard shutdown turned on: If no group is defined and a machine
fails with a fault, all machines of a move stop. If, however, an independent shutdown of
the machines of a trip is desired, you can create a free group.
If you assign a Shutdown group to a move, all machines of this move stop in case of
an error.
Furthermore, other moves on the same control lever can be assigned to the same
Shutdown group. This means all participating machines will stop in the event of an
error.
›› By assigning multiple moves to a common Shutdown group, you can ensure that if
an individual machine experiences an error, the other machines in the other moves
also shut down. The Shutdown group therefore links these moves logically with one
another.
Important: This also applies to any limits set in the system. For example, if a
machine has a speed limit, this will affect all of the other machines in the same
Shutdown group.
Example: You would like to move a wall which has been rigged in some flybars
together with an Elevator. The wall is hanging on ropes on a Bar, but touches the
Elevator with the bottom edge. The Elevator and the Bar have been assigned to
different move. You enter the same speed and ramps for both moves, and assign both
moves to the same Shutdown group. If the machine with the Bar stops with an error,
the Elevator would also stop, as both moves are assigned to the same Shutdown
group.
›› The machines in a move with the setting end together are delayed until all
machines arrive at the destination at the same time. If the setting end together is
set for further moves in the same cues, it is achieved that the machines of all these
trips arrive at the same time.
7.3.9. DELAY
|| The delay field is not usually displayed. If a delay needs setting, tap the arrow
symbol (here on the right side of the screenshot).
The delay function can be used to programme a start delay for every move. If, for
example, you are running multiple moves with one control unit, you can delay one or
more moves so that they start somewhat later.
›› When the approval button is pressed and the control lever is fully deflected, the
move will only start after the entered delay.
Comment: If the move is active, the remaining delay time appears in green
in the top left-hand corner of the cell. See also "Performing a show" (on page
121).
7.3.10. FLIPS
|| The flips field is not usually displayed. If a move needs to be repeated several
times, tap the arrow symbol (here on the right side of the screenshot).
With the flips function you can programme a move to be repeated. The number entered
here corresponds with the number of repetitions or "flips".
"0" corresponds with a normal move = no flips
"1" (and all uneven numbers) mean the move will end when the previous position is
reached again (or, if set, when the start position is reached).
"2" (and all even numbers) means the move will end in the target position that has
been set.
›› The move will be repeated, in line with the number entered, between the target
position and the current position (or, if set, the start position).
›› A selection window will appear. The machines with a light blue frame are
already associated with the move.
3. By selecting the desired machines, you can add new ones and/or remove existing
ones.
4. Confirm your new selection by pressing ► Confirm.
›› This function was used to remove the selected machines from a move or – if a
group is defined – in the entire group and/or new machines were added.
Comment: Please note that in contrast to the Replace function, the targets
are not taken over for new machines. In existing cues, the target position for a newly
added machine is the actual position of the machine (at the time of addition). Please
adjust the target positions after adding a machine.
Tip: If you accidentally delete or add the wrong machine, you can reverse this
operation via the Undo function.
You can use the Replace function to replace one individual machine with another. When
you do so, all saved target positions from the last machine will be taken over.
›› A selection window will appear. You can now replace the machine with
another.
3. First select above the machine to be replaced.
Comment: Only one machine can be replaced in a single step. If you want to
replace a number of machines, repeat the procedure accordingly for all machines
to be replaced.
4. Select the machine that should now be used to replace the previous one.
5. Press ► Confirm.
›› The initially selected machine has been replaced by the newly selected machine
in this move or – if a group is defined – in the entire group. All targets for the old
machine have been transferred to the new one.
Comment: If the machines have different movement ranges and you are using
targets that are outside the movement range after replacement, they will appear
in the list of Alerts. In this way, you can display the target positions that have now
become invalid and correct the target position.
With the function Add to cue , an Ad-hoc move can be converted to a permanent move.
›› The Ad-hoc move has now been changed to a planned cue. All of the other options
for processing are available and the cue is saved on the current page.
Tip: If you accidentally delete a move, you can reverse this operation via the Undo
function.
To turn off an individual move, press the green status bar on the right side of the
respective move. To restart a move, press the status bar again.
›› Only the selected move is deactivated (the button turns grey) or reactivated (the
button turns green).
7.6. CUES
A cue is used to determine when specific moves should be triggered. For each control
unit on the desk, a cue can be defined on a page. This happens automatically as soon
as the first move on this page is created for each control unit. This means a cue signal
can be assigned to each control unit.
If additional moves are assigned to the control unit, the cue remains the same. By
triggering a cue, for example by moving the control lever, both moves are started.
If the last move of a cue is deleted, the cue itself (number and name) will also be
deleted. If you want to delete the last move of a cue and add another, we recommend
adding the new move first and then deleting the old move, if the cue number and cue
name should remain the same.
cues have the following properties, as can be seen in the first row:
— cue number
— cue status
— cue name
With the help of this step you can manually activate and deactivate entire cues. After
loading a page, all cues are automatically switched to ON.
›› The cue related to the status bar that has been pressed changes its status to OFF
or ON, depending on the previous state.
Restriction: Unless an ERROR has been reported for one of the machines / drives
or in the system. This could, for example, relate to the pressing of an emergency
stop button. In this case, the error first has to be resolved before the selection
can be repeated.
Tip: Alternatively, you can also use the OLED buttons. Whenever they indicate
"SWITCH OFF" or "SWITCH ON", you can also use them to activate and deactivate
the cue or ad-hoc move concerned.
Comment: You can also enter intermediate values separated with a decimal
point, such as "13.5" or "12.1". The system allows you to enter a maximum of two
intermediate levels, such as "13.5.1".
Comment: The cue number is also displayed on the OLED button concerned.
||
This step allows you to move entire cues back to the start position if a start position
can be derived from the previous cues or if a start position was entered manually.
1. If the cue has not yet been activated, press the status bar.
›› "ON" appears.
2. Press the ► To target button.
›› ► To start appears.
›› By pressing the approval button and moving the control lever upwards, you can now
move to the intended start of the cue.
Important: This function is only available if the system can derive a start
position from a previous cue or if you have entered a start position manually.
This function is therefore usually not available for the first move of the machine
in the show.
Tip: When you have arrived at the starting position and would like to return
directly to your target, simply press the ► To start button again. This switches
the move mode back to "Move to the target" and ► To target appears.
Tip: Alternatively, you can switch between "To target" and "To start" directly using
an OLED button. To do so, simply press the button indicating the current status:
"To target" or "To start" to switch the move mode to the other option.
7.7. GROUPS
Important: Even with a free and a safe group, the entire group is always
activated when rigged. By pressing a single machine from the group, you can
also select and move only this single machine from the group, as long as you
have selected the target input Screen
›› You have created a named group. You can provide a selection of machines with
a name related to the show. If you wish to select the group again in a different
situation, you will be able to find the name of the group again at any time in the
group selection list.
If the group consists of multiple machines, they will move together synchronously.
If you also want to prevent machines of the object being selected individually, press
the ► rig button, see "Rig / Unrig" (on page 84). You, your colleagues and the
control system now know that the group has been rigged.
— show-based group
— global groups
— rigged groups
A special feature of machine selection:If you have rigged a group, you can also select
an individual machine from the group in the C⋅A⋅T VIEW. Since the group is rigged, the
entire group is loaded even if you select only one machine.
›› A window opens in which you will usually first see the machine selection.
If you have created groups, additional tabs appear with which you can also
directly select the groups.
2. Now press Show-based groups at the top of the screen.
Comment: Please note that the Show-based groups tab is only displayed if at
least one group has been created in this show.
Tip: Sorting: Normally the groups are sorted according to the machine number.
You can toggle the sort order in the upper right corner, e.g. by creation time, if
you are looking for the group you just created.
Tip: If you assign the same category to multiple groups, the groups are displayed
grouped by category. You can, for example, assign 5 groups to the category
"Lighting" and then select them together or Fold in/out and quickly select the
desired groups.
3. Select the desired group. You can also select several groups at once. These are
then selected as separate moves.
Tip: Instead of selecting the control unit on the screen, you can also select free
control units using an OLED button.
›› You have now added the selected group(s) in a new move or Ad-hoc move.
›› A window opens in which you will usually first see the machine selection. If
you have created global groups, additional tabs appear with which you can
also directly select the groups.
2. Press Global groups at the top.
Comment: Please note that the tab Global groups is only displayed if at least
one global group has been created.
3. Select the desired group. You can also select several groups at once. These are
then selected as separate moves.
4. Select the desired control unit.
›› You have now added the selected global group(s) in a new move or Ad-hoc move.
›› A window opens in which you will usually first see the machine selection.
If you have created groups, additional tabs appear with which you can also
directly select the groups.
2. Now press Rigged groups at the top of the screen.
Comment: Please note that the tab Rigged groups is only displayed if at least
one group is rigged in another show.
3. Select the desired group. You can also select several groups at once. These are
then selected as separate moves.
4. Select the desired control unit.
›› You have now added the selected rigged group(s) in a new move or Ad-hoc move.
Tip: You can rig and unrig a group of another show loaded in an ad-hoc move
by clicking on the group icon. Changing other group parameters of this "foreign"
group is prevented by the system.A corresponding note appears under the group
inspector.
only adding the actually selected machine instead of the rigged group when creating
a move in a cue:
›› You have now created a move with the individual machines although they are
currently rigged on the stage in another group. You can therefore not activate the
move but can continue with programming for the new show. You can also create a
new group with the machine.
When you open the groups input screen , you start in the "General" tab. Here you can
change set basic group settings.
— group name
— group icon
— Assign a category to the group
— Define rigging instructions
— Change group mode
— Delete a group
— Convert a group into a global group
1. Open the groups input screen by clicking on the field with the group information.
E.g. on the group icon or the area where the group name is shown.
2. Press the group name that is to be changed.
Tip: In addition to using the touch-screen keyboard, you can also enter the name
via a USB keyboard and confirm the entry with Enter.
1. Open the groups input screen by clicking on the field with the group information.
E.g. on the group icon or the area where the group name is shown.
›› You have now assigned the group to the desired categories. The next time you use
the group selection dialogue, the groups will be displayed grouped according to the
categories entered.
1. Open the groups input screen by clicking on the field with the group information.
E.g. on the group icon or the area where the group name is shown.
2. Select the desired group mode from the selection:
a) Free group (machines can move freely and switch off independently in the
event of an error)
b) Safe group (machines can move freely, but switch off together in the event of
an error)
c) Distance-synchronous group (machines keep the distance relative to each
other)
d) 3D group (machines move a 3D object in space)
3. Touch outside the input screen to complete editing.
Comment: Please note that if you change the group mode, all moves in this
group will be affected. If you use the referenced object position, changing the group
mode recalculates all target positions. Further information can be found in the
section "Use the referenced object position" (on page 86)
As long as a group does not have the status not rigged in the control system, you can
delete the group.
1. Open the groups input screen by clicking on the field with the group information.
E.g. on the group icon or the area where the group name is shown.
2. Press the trash symbol.
If the group cannot be deleted and is still rigged, press ► unrig first of all.
›› The group information has now been deleted. All moves are still in the show as
before. Only the reference to the group was removed.
Use the ► rig or ► unrig buttons to define the status of the group. If a group is rigged,
it is ensured that the machines in the group can only be moved together and can only
be selected together as a group.
1. Open the groups input screen by clicking on the field with the group information.
E.g. on the group icon or the area where the group name is shown.
2. Press ► rig.
Comment: In the same way, click on ► unrig to unrig the object again.
Comment: It is also possible to restrict the movement range for a group: For
information on this topic see the section: "Extended group limits (upper and lower
group end)" (on page 91)
Restriction: The group restrictions "maximum speed" and "maximum ramp" are not
available if the group consists of machines that do not allow variable speed control
or do not have absolute track measurement.
›› You have now set the maximum allowed group speed. From now on, when creating
cues, the speed can only be set within the specified limit.
Comment: Please note that already programmed moves are not automatically
adjusted. If a programmed speed exceeds the set limit, an alert is displayed in the
"Alerts" area. The corresponding cue cannot be activated and is marked in red on
the Browse pages to draw attention to it.
›› You have now defined the maximum allowed group ramp. From now on, when
creating cues, the ramp can only be set within the specified limit.
Comment: Please note that already programmed moves are not automatically
adjusted. If a programmed ramp exceeds the set limit, an alert is displayed in the
"Alerts" area. The corresponding cue cannot be activated and is marked in red on
the Browse pages to draw attention to it.
One use case is to specify the bottom edge of the decoration as a reference. The
software offers the possibility to teach in the height when the decoration hovers just
above the floor, or for decoration walls when the wall is inserted on the stage floor.
One advantage of this is that you can program the target positions independently of the
slings and ropes used. Only when rigging the decoration do you then set the reference
according to the real situation.
Furthermore, if the group is rigged, the control prevents the decoration from going
deeper than 0 m (stage floor) during free run. With the additional position limits related
to the object position, you can also restrict the movement range for this group upwards
and downwards for target moves and for free run.
A prerequisite for using the referenced object position is that the group mode is set to
distance-synchronously, since it cannot be guaranteed that the geometric conditions
are taken into account for free and safe groups in which the machines can move freely.
The following steps activate the use of the referenced object position for this group.
›› You have now activated the referenced object position for this group. If you now
enter a target for this group, you will notice that you can no longer enter the target
for the associated machine, but instead the group cell itself is highlighted for you
to enter the target position referenced to the object. In this way, you can start
programming the target positions without having to rig the object.
Comment: Please make sure that you must also set the corresponding object
height before moving to the "blind" programmed target positions prior to carrying
out programmed moves in this way. How to do this is explained in the following
section.
Restriction: This function can only be used with machines that have absolute
encoders.
›› The current object position was set to 0 m based on the actual position of the
machines.
›› After each input, the graphical visualization will adapt and display a visual
image of the entered parameters.
5. Click on Confirm when you have finished entering the parameters.
6. Close the inspector.
›› You have entered the object height manually and set it for the group.
To change the reference point for the object position, proceed as follows:
›› You have now learned how to change the reference of the object position.
With the following steps you can restrict the movement range for a group that uses the
referenced object position (setting the upper and lower end of the group):
Important: Note that the entered value refers to the reference point of the
object. See also the visualisation on the right side to check if the set movement
range is correct.
In practice, there are situations in which you will want to cross a set group limit, even
if the group is rigged. With the function "Ignore limits" the group limits discussed in
the previous chapter can be ignored until reselection or until a page change and thus
overridden.
›› In the object icon, you now see the addition "LIMITS OFF". You can move the group
between the machine limits in free run or in a target move without taking the group
limits into account. The upper and lower group limits as well as the maximum
group speed and maximum acceleration remain deactivated until you change page
or cancel the move.
Comment: After you have ignored the limits, you can turn them on again at any
time by repeating the steps and this time pressing "Apply limits".
Comment: Please note that the group limits are disabled (ignored) by default
when unrigged. You can also temporarily activate the group limits in this state with
the "Apply limits" button. In this case, "LIMITS ON" appears as an addition in the
object symbol.
On the one hand, group-related load monitoring can be defined per machine. In
addition, the total load can be monitored. For complex objects, you will sometimes want
to monitor a specific machine, while for groups that are to be inclined while moving,
a weight shift from one machine to the other is normal, and it is better to define the
safeguarding for the group load. It therefore depends on the application as to whether
you want to activate load monitoring for individual machines, the entire group or both.
Restriction: Group-based load monitoring can only be used if your machines have a
suitable option for load measurement.
›› You have successfully set up machine-based load monitoring for the desired group.
Proceed as follows to set up the load monitoring for the total load of a group:
›› You have successfully set up total load monitoring for the desired group.
— Adjust offsets
— Restore offsets
— Rigging move (target inspector)
This combination of functions is intended to give you the flexibility you need when
setting up and at the same time give you the certainty that the group can only be moved
distance-synchronously during later rehearsals and shows.
›› A temporary move has been loaded, which brings the machines back to the
originally saved constellation.
3. Press the approval button and move the control lever upwards to return the
machines to the saved constellation.
Attention: Depending on the position of the machines, the target positions now
approached can be above or below the current position in order to achieve
balance. This means that the machines can move both upwards and downwards.
4. When the machines have reached their targets in the original constellation, release
the control lever.
5. Press ► Confirm.
›› You have returned the machines to their original offsets and can now move
distance-synchronously with the group.
1. Select the group you want to set up for the first time. The group should have the
status "not rigged".
2. Now open the target input screen and activate the check mark for the "Rigging
move" option.
3. You can now specify target positions for the individual machines or select one
of the predefined targets, e.g. "Working height".The machines now move time-
synchronously to where you need them.
4. When the rigging move is activated, you can then programme targets that you need
for setup or simply move the machines together or one after the other in free run.
5. When you have the machines in the desired constellation, remove the check mark
from "Rigging move".
6. Go to the group inspector and set the status to "Rigged", see also "Rig / Unrig" (on
page 84).
›› By means of the rigging move, you have initially not moved the machines of
a distance-synchronous group distance-synchronously and have now rigged the
group.
Example: As an example of a rigging move, you can imagine that you first want to
move the required machines down to working height (all machines to 1 m). The next
step is to pull the ropes taut by moving the machines individually or to an already
programmed target position (still not distance-synchronous). Now, when everything
fits, lift the object a few millimetres in total and rig the group in the controller. From
this point on, you can only move distance-synchronously with the object.
Global groups otherwise behave in the same way as local groups with regard to the
range of functions and the application. The only difference is that the global groups in
each show can be used in cues. However, this means that a change to the global group
will affect every show in which it is used.
This is especially important if you use the referenced object position and the group
limits. Even if you change the group name, this change will be independent of your
show and therefore "global".
For this reason, a global group is initially displayed with a lock. This is to prevent
accidental changes to global groups. If you still want to edit a global group, click
"Unlock" as described below. You can then edit the group in the same way as a local
group.
Important: Keep in mind that the changes made here affect all shows that use
the global group.
Comment: Do not confuse the "Unlock" function with the "Ignore a machine"
function. This exclusively concerns protection against unintentional editing of a global
group.
›› The group has now been transformed into a global group. The group is initially
protected from changes. Press "Unlock" at the bottom if you want to change further
settings for the group.
Comment: This means that the group will now be displayed in the selection
dialogue for creating a move in the "Global groups" tab and no longer in the "Show-
based groups" tab.
You can create a show-based (local) copy of each global group. This enables you to use
global groups as the standard and still deal with different show-specific features. For
example, a show-based copy of a global group is useful if you have to make a change
to the group, but you do not want these changes to be adopted for all other shows.
Comment: If you have already created cues, the created show-based copy of
the global group will now be automatically used.
Comment: If the global group was already rigged, the copy just created will
now be automatically rigged and the global group will be automatically unrigged.
This enables you to continue working directly with the show-based copy. Please
remember that if you need the global group again in a different show, you will need
to unrig the corresponding local group and re-rig the global group.
If you open a show that uses modified global groups, you have the following options:
— Ignore and open the show read-only. In this case, you can view and execute
movements the original state of the show, but you can no longer make changes to
the cues with global groups.
— Confirm: This will update the global groups in the show to match the current group
definition.
— Create local copies: The unlinks to the global groups and creates local copies of
the global groups. This allows the show to be left in the state it was programmed
in before the changes to the global groups.
7.8. 3D GROUPS
You can recognise whether your system has the 3D groups function by the additional
selection option for the "3D group" group mode. You can use 3D groups for the
coordinate-based movement of an object in physical space. For this purpose, you need
at least three machines for three-dimensional movement. This chapter deals with
setup and programming through to the moving of 3D profiles.
Troubleshooting: Even if the option of the "3D group" group mode is activated for
your system, your user account must also be activated for utilisation of this function.
Comment: Once the setup is complete, you can rig and unrig a 3D group in the
same way as normal 1-dimensional groups, (see "Rig / Unrig" (on page 84)) to
prevent accidental activation of an individual machine.
Open the group inspector. Proceed as follows to set up the "3D group" group mode:
7.8.1.2. 3D SETUP
|| Before you begin, please create a 3D group with the machines you want to use.
Open the group inspector.
You first have to conclude the setup before you can use a 3D group created using the
desk. To do so, the positions of the last pulleys in physical space must be known as well
as the position of the fastening points on the object.
1. Press 3D setup.
2. Enter the position in x,y,z coordinates of the last pulley in relation to your stage
reference point for each machine.
Fast path: Depending on the system concerned, this data may already be
preconfigured and need not be entered again. Pulley can be preconfigured by
the Waagner-Biro service department for recurring use, especially if you have
permanently installed pulleys for the machines.
3. Then the position of the fastening points has to be stated in the form of x,y,z
coordinates in relation to the desired object reference point.
Fast path: If the ends of the ropes are joined to form a common point, you can
leave 0 as the preset value for indicating the object reference point.
4. Should you notice during the subsequent setup that a rope is too taut or too loose,
you can simply give additional rope or tighten the rope using the "Added rope"
parameter.
›› You have entered the required input parameters for using the 3D group. The
parameters have been saved for this group.
7.8.1.3. 3D POSITION
|| Before you begin, please create a 3D group with the machines you want to use.
Open the group inspector.
When set up, indication of the 3D position always describes the current 3D actual
position of the object. If a group has not yet been set up, simply enter the desired setup
position.
›› You have defined the desired object position. You can then begin to set up the 3D
object.
Proceed as follows to move the machines to the required position for setup in the 3D
group:
›› You have now moved the machines to the constellation so that you can now use
coordinates to move the machines.
Comment: If necessary, you can also use free runs for individual machines by
pressing the "Switch to free run" button to facilitate the rigging of the object, for
example.
In addition to translational movements in the x, y and z axes, the C⋅A⋅T SYSTEM can also
execute rotational movements in the rx, ry and rz axes, depending on the object and
machine configuration. To activate object rotation for the 3D group, proceed as follows:
Comment: Please note that you now have to enter the desired initial rotation
just one time on the 3D position tab. Then execute the rigging move for the 3D group
to conclude the setup.
— Recording a 3D profile
— Selecting an existing 3D profile
When using 3D groups, you enter one target position per coordinate x, y, z (or rx, ry, rz
if rotation is activated) instead of one target position per machine.
2. Enter the desired target position for the currently highlighted axis and press the
enter key.
3. Press the next axis for which you want to enter the target position.
4. Keep repeating steps 2-3 until you have entered the target position for all
coordinates.
›› You have defined a 3D target position. You can save this position in the same way as
a named target, see "Save as" (on page 53). The machines will be moved linearly
to the new target position in physical space.
If you activate the free run for a 3D group, the z-axis (up/down) is set first. However,
you can select whichever axis you wish:
›› You have now changed the selected axis and can move the selected axis in the free
run.
If this function has been enabled and set up in your system, you can also use a
connected gamepad as a control unit instead of a control lever or GO button. In this
way, you can perform a multi-axis free run.
Warning: Never fly persons using a gamepad. Make sure there are no people in
or under the operating area of your rig as long as you are using the gamepad to
control moves. The 3D free run function using the gamepad is intended exclusively
for approaching positions for rehearsal purposes and for recording moves. The
gamepad itself is not a safe control device. Either the approval bars on the desk or
an externally connected foot switch must be used for safe approval of the move or
to stop the move.
1. Press the control unit cell in the move with the 3D group and select the "gamepad".
2. Press the target cell.
3. Activate the check mark in the "Free run" field.
4. Close the target input screen .
›› You have now assigned the move to the gamepad and activated the free run. Now,
following confirmation with one of the approval bars, you can move the 3D object
in the configured axes using the gamepad.
With 3D groups, you can record individual target moves or free runs relating to a 3D
profile from the desk itself.
Tip: You can also record multiple 3D groups on the same or different control
units at the same time.
Important: The recording only covers the times during which the approval
button concerned or one of the approval bars is pressed.
5. End the recording by pressing "Conclude recording" on the target input screen .
›› The recorded 3D profile now appears on the target input screen , where you can
now select the profile and use it in cues.
Tip: If you are using a profile in an ad-hoc move, you can also initiate generation of
a move to the start of the profile via … "To start".
1. Click on ► ... Menu at the move for which you want to add another step.
2. Click ► Add step.
›› A second line has been added. You can now edit the driving parameters of the new
step by clicking on the respective cell as usual. This allows you to set the new target,
a different speed and other move parameters for this step only.
To delete a step, proceed in the same way as for deleting a move, see "Deleting a
move" (on page 67):
Tip: You can also move a substep using drag and drop. To do this, click on the
middle, free area of the step and drag it to the desired position.
— The move contains only one machine or is used in a distance synchronous group
— The following substep continues to move in the same direction.
During rehearsal situations, it may be desired to execute the move only from a certain
partial step. Especially to not have to go through long previous moves again each
time.To do this, proceed as follows:
Click the status field of the step to activate the sequence from this step.
›› The selected step is activated and you can move through the sequence from here
to the end.
Tip: Also in the Move ► To start mode, you can move to the start position of this
one step by clicking on the status field of the respective step in order to restore
the starting position.
7.10. CONDITIONS
Various conditions can be programmed for one move. This means that the move is not
triggered until all defined conditions have been met. In addition, the approval button
must be pressed and the control lever deflected or the associated go button pressed
to start the movement.
1. Click on the > symbol in the move for which you want to create a condition.
2. Click the cell "Conditions".
3. Add a new condition.
a) If no condition has been programmed for this move, you can add the first
one by pressing the "+ add condition" button.
b) Otherwise, you can use the small plus sign on the left-hand side of the input
screen to add more conditions for the move.
4. Select the condition type. In this example, we select machine condition.
5. Select the machine which you want to make the move dependent on.
6. Confirm your selection with "Confirm".
7. Select the desired dependency:
›› You have successfully programmed your first (or another) condition. Whether the
condition has already been fulfilled is indicated by "0/1" or "1/1" in the top left cell of
the conditions. The first number indicates how many conditions have already been
met. The second number indicates the number of programmed conditions for this
move.
›› Now the desired conditions are triggered manually. The condition field should now
display this accordingly at the top in the counter. When all conditions have been
triggered, you can start the move.
— The machine on which the move depends: Clicking again opens the machine
selection dialogue for selecting a different machine.
— Dependency type: You can change the dependency type by selecting a different
dependency type.
— Dependency value (position / distance): By clicking on it, the input area for
entering numbers opens again for changing the value.
›› If you want to change more than one condition of a move, carry out steps 2
and 3 again.
4. Check your change and close the condition input screen by clicking outside the
inspector.
Comment: Please note that you can only reset manually triggered conditions.
Conditions that have actually been fulfilled cannot be reset.
Important: Manual moves are also automatically reset when you switch pages
and reactivate the page. Manual moves are therefore never stored and only serve
to overwrite conditions once.
In the machine overview the machine fields and the position of the machines are
presented graphically. You can also create an Ad-hoc move from here.
The following screenshot shows an example of a machine overview. This display will
be created in line with the requirements of your system.
Depending on the setup and size of your system, you will find further buttons at the
bottom of the screen. Here, for example, you can view the current status of monitoring
equipment and components, such as Trap doors, locks, safe edge, doors, etc.
You can also perform the following actions in the machinery overview:
— Get an overview of the current status of the machines and components: If a machine
is in error condition, it will be displayed with a red border.
— Display of the current selection of machines: Selected machines are displayed in
light blue.
— Display of the current active machines: Active machines are displayed with a border
in the colour of the ► control unit .
— Target display: When the current moves has reached its target, the bar turns green.
— Create ad-hoc move
— Ignore (block) machines
— Unrig a group
In this step, you will be shown how to add an Ad-hoc move quickly via the machine
overview.
Tip: You can also select free control units using an OLED button instead of
selecting the control unit on the screen.
›› An Ad-hoc move has been created. You can now move the machines using the
selected control unit. Once you have selected a target, move the control lever
upwards or start the movement using the corresponding control unit to move to
the target.
Comment: If you have selected a GO button as a control unit and have not
specified a target position, you cannot select the move until you have entered a
target position.
›› The machine is now being ignored. This means that you can no longer select it.
Moving this machine is thus prevented by the software. In addition, the machine
is ignored by groups. This means that the remaining machines can still be moved.
This does not apply to distance-synchronous groups.
Danger: The maintenance switch does not necessarily release all live parts. To
carry out electrical work on switch cabinets or machines, always switch off the
relevant electrical supply line.
›› The machine is now released and can once again be selected and moved.
To remove a group directly from the Machine overview, carry out the following steps.
1. Select a machine in the Machine overview that is currently being used by a rigged
group.
2. Press ...
3. Press "Unrig".
›› The group has been unrigged. You can now freely select and move the individual
machines again.
›› The display has now been inverted according to the configuration. Press the button
again to invert the display back.
Comment: The situation is different for free runs. In this case, the OLED button
indicates "Free run" instead of the remaining run time.
Visualization if not at start position: An orange warning triangle appears in the cue
line if individual machines are beyond the start position and thus outside the desired
movement range for this move. This can cause the move to proceed faster (fixed
duration given) or last longer (fixed speed given).
If you first want to move to the starting position for the cue, press the ► To target
button. Further details about this function can be found in the section: "Return to the
start position of a cue" (on page 70).
Target visualization: In the cue line, the target visualization appears as a flag as soon
as all control unit moves have arrived at their target. If you are running several moves
simultaneously with one control unit, you can see at a glance in the cue line whether
all moves have reached their target.
You will also see the target visualization for the cue on the OLED buttons.
Machines at start position: A flag in the start field of a move shows you that all
machines are in their start position. As soon as they start to move, and the machines
have left their start position, the flag will disappear.
Comment: In the default setting, the start field only appears if an explicit start
position is set.If you always want the start field to be displayed, change the default
setting in the user settings:Under Settings > Show > Cells that are always displayed >
Start, see "Settings of the shows" (on page 168).
The machines have reached their target position: As soon as all machines
associated with the move have reached the target position, the flag will appear again
in the target field . This is how you know that the move was completed successfully.
Auto next page: For each page, you can specify whether the system should
automatically switch to the next page once all moves have arrived at their targets, see
"Automatically load next page:" (on page 27). This is also the case when using the
"Auto next cue" function, see "Auto follow cue" (on page ).
During a move with a control lever, you can control the speed as follows:
›› You can control the speed during the move. Following the move, the speed field
indicates the actual speed at which the move was executed. By clicking the field,
you can apply the speed at which the move was executed as programmed speed.
2. Press ► "GO" on the lower OLED button of the corresponding module to trigger
the ride.
›› The machines will now execute the programmed move and switch themselves off
automatically when the target has been reached.
Important: You can interrupt at any time by releasing the approval bars. If you
drive several moves on different modules at the same time by pressing the Go
button, all moves are approved together via the approval bars or interrupted by
releasing them. By pressing the upper OLED button ► "STOP" you can also
specifically stop only a single transformation.
Troubleshooting: If one or more of the machines are not moving, check the
respective machine field to see whether the machine has been selected (green
light) and which control unit it has been assigned to.
During a move on a GO button, you can control the speed as follows using the associated
control lever:
›› You can control the speed during the move. Following the move, the speed field
indicates the actual speed at which the move was executed. By clicking the field,
you can apply the speed at which the move was executed as programmed speed.
In this section of the handbook we will deal with the management of the repertoire.
From this area you can configure all settings that relate to individual shows. The
repertoire overview provides access to the following functions:
— Load show
— Rename show
— Delete a show
— Duplicate show
— Search for a show

— Archive show
— Add a show
— Flag show as favourite
favourite shows:On the left you will find the area for favourite shows. If you have
many shows in your repertoire, of which you only play a selection, you can mark these
shows as favourites, see "Save show as favourite" (on page 133) and be sure
that the desired show is always quickly accessible here on the left.favourite shows are
highlighted in yellow.
quick search: In the middle area you will find a quick search function. This allows you to
search for shows by tapping the search box. When you enter your search term, the list
of shows displayed below will be automatically filtered, see "Search for a show" (on
page 129).
Archived shows: Archiving of shows feature is for a better overview by a gray marking.
Press ► Show archived shows to hide or show archived shows. If the button is green,
archived shows are displayed. If the button is white, you will only see the current (non-
archived) shows. Section "Archive show" (on page 132) explains how to archive a
show.
Create a new show: With the button ► Add show in the upper right-hand corner
you can create a new show.
1. Press the ► menu button in the upper left-hand corner, the symbol with the 3

If the desired show is not in the search results, you can delete the term at any
time and enter a new one.
›› You will be taken automatically to the first page of the selected show.
3. Press ► Confirm.
›› You have now created a new show and are taken directly to the first page.
Restriction: Here edit does not include changing pages, moves or cues. This is always
done in the views described in section "Overview of the software structure" (on
page 20).
Press the small red pencil symbol on the right-hand side of the row displaying the
show.
›› The dialogue screen for editing a show is opened, as can be seen in the following
screenshot.
With the following steps you can change the name of a show:
1. Press the field in which the name of the show can be seen.
›› Focus will be placed on this field for making an entry, and the touch-screen
keyboard will appear.
2. Enter the desired name.
3. Press the ► confirmation key (enter).
4. Press ► Confirm.
Archiving is only used to provide a better overview in the repertoire overview. With this
function you can hide rarely used or finished show during normal operation without
having to delete them. With the following steps you can archive a show:
›› The button changes the visualization to Archive:Yes and the colour of the
field turns green.
2. Click ► close.
Comment: You can undo the archiving of a show at any time by pressing
the button again. The visualization then changes back to Archive: No. The show
you have just archived may not be displayed in the repertoire overview. Section
"Repertoire overview" (on page 128) describes how to include archived shows
in the display.
You can use the lock show feature to prevent unwanted changes from being made to
a show.To lock a show, proceed as follows:
›› The switch changes the display to lock show:Yes and the colour of the field
turns green.
2. Click ► close.
Comment: You can undo locking a show at any time by pressing the button
again. The display then changes back to lock show:No. To lock a show, you need
at least the user right "Access Show: 45-AddAndLockShows". In this way, you can
ensure that only certain operators can lock and unlock a show. Furthermore, it
is also possible to lock only a single chapter. Read more in the section "Lock
chapter" (on page 40).
The Favourite function is only used to provide a better overview in the repertoire
overview. With this function, frequently used show are always shown on the left side in
the repertoire. With the following steps you can flag a show as a favourite:
2. Press ► Confirm.
Comment: You can undo this action and remove the favourite flag from a show
at any time by pressing the ► star again. The star will fade again (colour changes
to grey).
— Add to favourites and Remove from favourites (see also "Save show as
favourite" (on page 133))
— Duplicate
— Delete (see also "Delete a show" (on page 135))
With the following steps you can duplicate a new show, i.e. create a copy:
›› The dialogue box for naming the copy of the selected show will open.
3. Enter the desired name and confirm it by pressing "Enter".
›› The new name has now been accepted. By clicking on the star, you can add
the copy to your personal favourites, if desired.
4. Press the ► confirmation key (enter).
›› The selected show has been duplicated (a copy of the original show has been
created). You are now on the first page of the copied show. When you go back to
the repertoire, the copy of the show is now also listed in the repertoire under the
newly assigned name.
Important: All created groups have also been copied. If groups were rigged to
the original show, the groups will not be initially rigged to the copied show. There
is no further link between the groups of the original and the copied show. (This
does not apply to global groups.)
Restriction: The Delete show function can only be carried out if no (local) groups
are rigged to the show.
— Print targets
— Print pages/cues
— Print objects/groups
Troubleshooting: If your USB storage media has been inserted, but is not being
displayed or the export is not working, check whether the device has been
formatted with the FAT32 file format.
›› The desired list will now be printed with the selected printer.
The main menu bar provides you with access to the most important functions and
information. This includes:
Restriction: The ► machine overview button is only displayed if you are working at
a desk with a screen (e.g. C⋅A⋅T 560, C⋅A⋅T 550, C⋅A⋅T 530, C⋅A⋅T 500, web browser
application). If your desk has two screens, the machine overview will be displayed
permanently on one of the two screens.
With the ► machine overview button you can switch backwards and forwards
between the user interfaces and the machine overview.
The control elements of the machine overview are dealt with in the section "Machinery
(C⋅A⋅T VIEW)" (on page 116).
All moves are taken into account as if you had driven through the show from the first to
the current page. The generated moves represent the deviation of the current position
from the target position. By clicking on the right status field, the setback moves can be
activated individually and then driven to the planned position.
The moves generated here behave like ad-hoc moves, i.e. you can adjust all parameters
according to your wishes or set moves on different control units to the same control
unit.
If you have moved machines from another control desk in the meantime, press
► Reload to generate the page again.
The Ad-hoc button is always available to you regardless of whether you are currently
active on a particular page or are active on the Browse pages screen. This allows you
to concentrate exclusively on ad-hoc moves.
The following examples are given to help you understand the possibilities better:
1. You are currently on a page of your show. The page is already very full and you now
want to make ad-hoc moves only. Press "Ad-hoc".You will now see an empty screen
in which you can create the ad-hoc moves.
2. You are currently on one page of your show and you already have two ad-hoc moves
active on a joystick. Press "Ad-hoc". Now only the ad-hoc moves that have already
been created will be displayed.
3. Imagine these ad-hoc moves are used to test a new move on stage. You run these
moves a few times and change some properties. Then you would like to use them
as a cue. Press again to return to the previous page or Browse pages screen. You
can now see the ad-hoc moves again together with the existing cues on this page
and can, for example, accept the ad-hoc moves as new cues using the ► Add to
cue function.
Restriction: The ad-hoc scratchpad cannot be used until you have loaded a show
from the repertoire. Thus, named targets that you have programmed in the ad-hoc
scratchpad can be recalled later if you wish to create cues.
In addition, the ad-hoc scratchpad provides you with several shortcuts, e.g. to delete all
existing ad-hoc moves at once, or to directly select an individual machine or an already
created group.
— Select machines
This button takes you directly to the usual machine selection dialogue.
— Select groups
— Remove all
With this button you can delete all ad-hoc moves at once.
Use this button to specify whether all ad-hoc moves are to be deleted automatically
when you leave the ad-hoc scratchpad.
Tip: The user interface remembers this option for each user.
11.1.4.1. ALERTS
Alerts draw attention to any current errors in the system and/or in the programming
of a show.
The little red number in the bar shows how many Alerts have been identified by the
system at the moment.
If you press the ► Alerts button, a list of the current Alerts will be displayed. These
can have different causes. First of all, it is important to note the difference between
A machine-related alert reports an error with a machine, e.g. " The machine has
experienced an error ". In such a case, the alert informs the user about such a machine
error.
A programming-based alert always occurs when a value has been entered during
programming, which, for example, cannot be used under the current conditions. This
could be a speed limit set in the system for this machine, for example, or a user-defined
move range limit. Links are available on the screen for these Alerts, which can be
accessed by clicking the ► magnifying glass. You will then be taken to the area where
the conflict can be found, and can then resolve the issue.
Alerts are also displayed in red on the relevant page and on the Browse pages screen.
This enables you to see when a move cannot be carried out and an alert has been
generated.
11.1.4.2. MEMOS
You can use memos to store and share your own information among colleagues. Be it
for notes, pending tasks or for current special interest in the system. For each Memos,
the type can be specified between Info, Task, Warning and Danger.
The small orange number in the bar indicates how many unclosed memos there are
currently.
Besides the memo type, a title, the message, a user and a machine can be specified
to filter the memos.

To assign a different authorisation group to a user account, perform the following steps:
›› You have successfully changed the rights group for the user.
|| Open C⋅A⋅T STUDIO by clicking on the button in the upper menu bar.
Normally, user rights are controlled by group membership. In some cases, however, it
is desirable to provide a single user with special rights. To assign individual user rights
to a user account, perform the following steps:
›› You have assigned an individual user right to this user. This entry now appears in
white.
Comment: If you have accidentally assigned a right individually and now want
to use the default setting of the rights group again, perform the steps again and
select option a) in step 4.
because you only have to select a group for the user. Generally, you do not need to
change anything in this menu.
You may, however, want to change the default setting for a group and therefore for all
users in the group. In this case you can make this change in this menu. The individual
descriptions of the user rights can be found in the section: "Setting individual
permissions for a user" (on page 151).
Important: Please note that a change to the group rights affects all users assigned
to this group. Only change the user groups if the effects of the change are clear to
you.
In the event of a fault, it may be necessary to switch off a certain safety function. For
this purpose, the "Muting" menu offers the possibility of ignoring individual limitations
for a set duration.
To ignore one or more safety functions for the set duration, perform the following steps:
1. Select the desired "Equipment" from the equipment selection at the top of the
screen.
2. Set the desired duration for deactivation, after which the safety function is
automatically reactivated. (Default setting: 60 sec / Maximum: 600 sec)
3. Check the box for the desired limitation in the "Muted" column by clicking in the
check boxes.
›› The desired safety function is deactivated for the set duration. You can now select
the machine despite the triggered safety function(s) and run the machine with
reduced safety.
Danger: If you move a drive with deactivated safety functions, the safety of the
control system is reduced.
Instead, safety must be ensured with organisational measures. E. g. Only move
machines when nobody is underneath the load.
Never misuse the deactivation of safety functions in order to use the drive
in scenic operation in spite of faults! Movement with deactivated safety
functions is the responsibility of the operator and is only permitted under
constant observation of the drive!
Comment: You can reactivate the safety function at any time, even before the
timed automatic reactivation, by clicking the check box again.
|| Open C⋅A⋅T STUDIO by clicking on the button in the upper menu bar.
Emergency operation is used to run the drive in exceptional cases, despite movement
being prevented from running by safety monitoring. This could be necessary, for
example, if a safety monitoring system incorrectly responds. In emergency operation
you can still move the drive, e. g. to correct the fault or to move the drive to a specific
position as a one-off.
To activate one of the preset emergency operation options for the set duration, follow
the steps below:
1. Select the desired "Equipment" from the equipment selection at the top of the
screen.
2. Set the desired duration for deactivation, after which the safety function is
automatically reactivated. (Default setting: 60 sec)
3. Check the checkbox for the desired emergency operation in the "Active" column by
clicking in the checkboxes.
a) Emergency Move = for cases of over-winding errors, slack ropes or the
emergency limit switch being tripped.
b) Overload = Move drive despite overload monitoring
c) Encoder = Move despite defective encoder
d) Setup Mode = Move without regulation
›› The desired emergency operation function is activated for the set duration. You
can now select the machine despite the triggered safety function(s) and run the
machine with reduced safety.
Danger: If you move a drive in emergency operation mode, the safety of the
control system is reduced.
Instead, safety must be ensured with organisational measures. E. g. Only move
machines when nobody is underneath the load.
Never misuse the emergency operation mode in order to use the drive
in scenic operation in spite of faults! Movement in emergency operation
mode is the responsibility of the operator and is only permitted under
constant observation of the drive!
|| Open C⋅A⋅T STUDIO by clicking on the button in the upper menu bar.
This function can be used to restrict the travel range of a machine, for example, in
order to be able to move the machine only to a certain position in the case of temporary
installations in the theatre.
The defined system limits cannot be adjusted and remain active.
›› You have adjusted the values and activated them in the machine control system.
From now on, the limits will be applied as configured. Already programmed moves
that exceed the limits can still be activated, but they will respect the set limits. This
is indicated in the target field by a yellow background and the deviating target
position. When entering a target, a limit is also indicated.
|| Open C⋅A⋅T STUDIO by clicking on the button in the upper menu bar.
Troubleshooting: You may not see the C⋅A⋅T STUDIO button if your user account
does not have the right to open the C⋅A⋅T STUDIO.
To reset the actual position, e.g. after changing an encoder, carry out the following
steps:
›› The desired emergency operation function is activated for the set duration. You
can now select the machine despite the triggered safety function(s) and run the
machine with reduced safety.
Danger: After calibrating the encoder, make sure that the displayed position
corresponds to the actual position of the drive.
If possible, move to the end positions of the drive to ensure that the drive can be
moved within its movement range.
Perform the following steps only if a reboot of the entire C⋅A⋅T SYSTEM is indicated.
This is the case with certain error patterns, which are described in the section
"Troubleshooting" (on page 186).
›› The system will now restart. This can take up to 5 minutes. If the reboot is
successful, the emergency stop button lights up red and the screen displays the
Login screen. You can now log back in and continue working. In all other cases,
please contact the "C⋅A⋅T SERVICE" (on page 204).
Please note that from this point on no more changes to the show data will be
saved in order to keep the current data consistent. Please contact Waagner-Biro
immediately.
A message will then appear on the screen with information regarding what has been
cancelled or "undone".
With ► Redo you can use an action again, which was previously undone.
Press stop to stop recording the time. If you press Reset, the time on the stopwatch
will be reset to 00:00.
You can hide the stopwatch by pressing the clock symbol again at the top.
The watch-dog display provides you with information on the status of general control
components. In normal conditions, the watch-dog symbol is green and displays a
rotating hexagon. If, for example, something is wrong with the network communication
or the server, you will be able to identify this based on red ERROR alert, offline alert or
the "running" symbol. For troubleshooting, refer to the section "Troubleshooting" (on
page 186).
Click on the Watch-Dog visualization (at the top right of the screen).
›› The system overview opens and displays the status of the respective components
of your system.
This usually includes status information about the C⋅A⋅T SERVERS, the power supply,
the electrical supply to the machines, the emergency stop button, and other system-
specific components.
For further information on the system-specific components, please refer to the specific
operating manual.

Flip screen This option allows you to swap the displays on a C⋅A⋅T 562 or a C⋅A⋅T 552. This way
the machine overview is on the lower screen and the normal programme interface is
on the upper screen. This can be an advantage for seated workstations if you prefer to
work with mouse and keyboard or if the show has been programmed as far as possible
and you want to use the lower screen primarily for selecting ad-hoc moves.
Attention: Changes to the user profile cannot be reset using the Undo / Redo
functions.
Use this option to specify how many subsequent pages should be displayed as a column
on the right in normal page view. This way you always have the next page(s) in view.
Restriction: Please note that a maximum of three pages can be selected between
options (1) and (2) to ensure the correct display of the currently active page.
If this option is switched off, you will always see the heading of the chapter you are
currently in.If this option is switched on, you save this space on the visualization and
have more space to see the actual page. (The default value for this setting is: Off)
If this option is switched off, the ad-hoc moves are carried over when changing
pages. You can keep ad-hoc moves active independently of the selected page and still
have access to them. If this option is switched on, all ad-hoc moves are deleted when
the page is changed. (The default value for this setting is: Off)
If this option is switched off, the group load is not displayed in the group cell as the sum
of the individual machine loads. (The default value for this setting is: On)
The ► Always setting allows you to specify that the next page is always loaded
automatically, regardless of the individual page setting. As soon as the target positions
of the current page are reached, the system automatically switches to the next page.
This setting applies to the user account you are currently logged in with. The default
setting is ► Auto. In this case, it will only automatically proceed to the next page if the
page requires it, see "Automatically load next page:" (on page 27).
With the following options you determine which cells should always be displayed for a
move, even if they correspond to the default value for the machines. This allows you
to determine which functions you want to have access to by default without having to
take further action. On the other hand, by turning off these options you can also create
a tidy surface that only displays the cells of a move if the values do not correspond to
the standard.

This setting refers to the visualization in the machine overview. If you have already
selected a machine, previously defined targets appear as buttons for directly selecting
the target. With this setting you can select the size of these target markers to adapt
them to your individual needs.
— Display the group name within the machine box when the group is rigged or
currently active.
If this option is activated, the machine overview will show the group name of the rigged
group instead of the machine name. The machine name is then displayed in small
letters at the bottom right. This gives you a quick overview of the machines in which
something is rigged.
Attention: Changes to the user profile cannot be reset using the Undo / Redo
functions.
Comment: This setting applies to all moves made from this desk using the Go
button. On each desk the setting can be made independently of each other and is stored
per outlet.
Comment: If the C⋅A⋅T FOOT SWITCH is unplugged, the integrated approval bars
are used again from the next selection. An additional message alerts the user as soon
as the foot switch is unplugged or no longer recognized by the system.
In the side menu you can switch between the real stage and simulated stages. In their
system, they will see the selection fields "main stage" or "stage" in addition to the virtual
stages. If these are selected, they will be working with real machines again.
This function is also used in connection with the Reset stage function. If you
are working with a virtual stage, by pressing this button all of the machines in the
simulation will be set to the predefined actual position.
Apart from these options, all of the functions of the real environment can be used in
the simulation.
You can see which stage you are currently active on at any time in the main menu bar
at the top next to the show name.
1. Open the side menu by pressing the menu button at the top left.
2. Click "Switch stage".
3. Click on the desired stage.
4. Click close.
You can reset any virtual stage to its default values. All machines are reset to the
predefined actual position, and all the show's local groups are unrigged.
To reset a virtual stage, please follow the steps below:
›› The machines in the previously selected virtual stage have been reset to default
values. All the show's local groups have been unrigged.
You can apply the current status of the real stage to each virtual stage. All of the
machines will be set to the current actual position of the real stage, and the rigged/
unrigged status of the groups of the real stage will be applied.
To reset a virtual stage, please follow the steps below:
›› The machines in the previously selected virtual stage have been set to those of
the real stage, and all groups rigged in the real stage have also been rigged in the
simulation.
1. Press the ► menu button in the upper left-hand corner, the symbol with the 3
lines, to open the Navigation menu.
2. Press ► Log out
3. Press ► restart.
— There is no priority desk. Instead, the person who selected a machine first always
has control over it. A machine can only be active on one desk at a time.
— If a machine is active at another desk, the frame of the machine field appears in
grey and "Other desk" is displayed in the third line.
Example:
In this case the machine E16 is not selected. The machines E17, E18 are selected at
another desk.
If you have a point hoist system, which has drives with a fixed position and rope lead-
offs that can be configured variably, you can use start displace mode (for point hoists)
to take care of the configuration, if a point hoist is to be displaced.
Warning: Please only use this function after you have received training / instructions
for the point hoist system. This function is used to adjust the operating limits of
the drive's travel range. If this function is used incorrectly, the mechanical limits of
the drive may be exceeded. This can result in material damage as well as personal
injury.
Attention: You should therefore read the operating instructions of your point
hoist system carefully. This manual covers the general part of the control system.
Mechanical, electrical and control engineering peculiarities in your site are not part
of these instructions.
When displacing point hoists, the position measurement in the control system is
suppressed during the displacement process, in order to ensure the rope lead-off can
be moved. Before displacing a point hoist, ensure you have marked the appropriate
height with regard to your drawing loft /supporting structure.
Important: When displacing point hoists, you should always ensure you have
marked the actual height on the point hoist, so that you can set the correct height
again afterwards.
›› The dialogue now changes on the visualization: Pull the point hoist. The
speed was reduced automatically. From now on, you will be moving the Point
hoist without any operating limits.
7. Start the point hoist displacement:
a) In order to provide more rope, press the approval button and move the
control lever downwards.
b) In order to wind in the rope, press the approval button and move the control
lever.
8. Once you have finished adjusting the Point hoist, check the markings to ensure they
match the reference height. If not, continue moving it (slowly) up/down until these
match exactly.
›› In the inspector you will see the fields for "Unwound rope", "Current offset"
and "Available rope". These give you information on how far you have already
displaced and how much rope is still available on each side. In the lower part
of the inspector you can also see this as a graphical visualisation.
9. You can also set the new drag point in the drag inspector. This information is a purely
informative indication of the current position of the point hoist in the coordinates
stage front to back and stage left to right. This point does not necessarily have to
be set, but it does provide assistance in identifying the point move and the current
mount position. You can also set them using drag and drop in the right area of the
inspector if the approximate position is sufficient for orientation.
10. In order to exit start displace mode (for point hoists), press ► Complete
displacement.
›› The Point hoist now has the same machine position (height above stage level) on
the control system as at the beginning of the displacement. Please check whether
the upper and lower end positions have been set correctly by carefully approaching
the end positions.
Comment: After you have finished the displacement, the machine is switched
off for the time being. You can activate the machines as usual.
If the machine should not be locked after reaching the target position, deselect the
option ► automatic locking at target .
This setting, automatic locking at target is saved for the move. This means, for example,
that if the machine should not be locked at some specific point during the show, remove
the tick from this option so that the machine remains unlocked.
Tip: Alternatively, you can also use the OLED buttons to unlock and lock: Show
these "UNLOCK" resp. "LOCK", press and hold the button for 2s to initiate the manual
locking process.
Move to next possible lockable position:In the target input screen , the possible
lockable positions will also appear close to the given target position. In order to move
towards a lockable position, enter the approximate value for the position you want to
move to. In the right-hand column the inspector will show you which lockable positions
are available near to the given position. If you press one of these lockable positions, it
will be taken over as the target and, if automatic locking has been selected, the machine
will lock when it reaches the target position.
Standard lockable positions: Alternatively, you can select typical lockable positions
directly, as shown in this example "Stage" and "Below".These are predefined in the
system and included as permanent target.
First of all, the target input screen is different due to the fact that the target position
is entered in degrees. Furthermore, the direction of movement can be predefined. The
following options are available here:
With the options previously mentioned, it is possible to move to a specific position and
determine the rotational direction. If, however, the machine is to rotate more than 360
degrees one or more times, the ► +1 turn or the ► -1 turn buttons can be used
to configure the number of complete turns.
In the machine overview, the direction of movement and the target position are
displayed as follows:
