Cubes

The document outlines a training session focused on logical reasoning related to cubes, detailing various scenarios involving painted cubes and their subdivisions. It provides answers to questions about the number of smaller cubes with specific paint conditions after cutting larger cubes into smaller ones. The training is aimed at enhancing the understanding of geometric properties and relationships in cube structures.

TOPIC: CUBES DATE: 16.12.2024

1. A cube is painted on all faces and cut into 27 smaller cubes. How many cubes have 3 faces
painted?
Answer: 8 cubes.
2. A cube has all faces painted and is cut into 64 smaller cubes. How many cubes have exactly 2
faces painted?
Answer: 24 edge cubes.
3. A cube has all faces painted and is cut into 125 smaller cubes. How many have no paint?
Answer: 27 (inner cubes, (n-2) ^3 = 3^3 = 27
4. A cube is cut into 64 smaller cubes. How many cubes have 1 face painted?
Answer: 24 face-centre cubes.
5. A cube with 6 cm edge is cut into 1 cm edge smaller cubes. How many are there?
Answer: 6^3 =216 cubes.
6. A cube is painted on all faces and cut into 27 smaller cubes. How many have exactly 1 face
painted?
Answer: 6 face-centre cubes.
7. A cube has 8 cm edge. How many smaller 2-cm cubes can it be cut into?
Answer: (8 / 2) ^3 = 4^3 = 64
8. A cube is painted on two opposite faces and cut into 64 cubes. How many have both colours?
Answer: 16 edge cubes.
9. A cube is painted on all faces and cut into 216 cubes. How many have 3 faces painted?
Answer: 8 corner cubes.
10. A cube of edge 5-cm is painted and cut into 125 smaller cubes. How many cubes have 2 faces
painted?
Answer: 24 edge cubes.
11. A cube with edge 6-cm is painted and cut into 1-cm cubes. How many have at least 1 face
painted?
Answer: 6^3 - 4^3 = 216 - 64 = 152.
12. How many faces of a cube are adjacent to each vertex?
Answer: 3 faces.
13. A cube has 2 cm edge. How many smaller 1-cm cubes are formed?
Answer: 2^3 = 8
14. A cube has 27 smaller cubes. How many have no paint?
Answer: 1 central cube.
15. A cube with 5cm edge is painted on all sides and cut into smaller 1-cm cubes. How many cubes
have exactly 2 faces painted?
Answer: 24 edge cubes.
16. A cube of edge 2-cm is painted on all sides. How many faces are painted?
Answer: 6 faces.
17. A cube is painted on all its faces and cut into 64 smaller cubes. How many of these smaller cubes
have no paint on any face?
Answer: Only the inner cubes have no paint.
The inner part of a 4×4×4 cube has (4 - 2) ^3 = 2^3 = 8 cubes with no paint.

18. A cube is painted on all faces and then cut into 125 smaller cubes. How many of these cubes have
exactly 3 faces painted?
Answer: Only the 8 corner cubes have 3 faces painted.
19. A cube is painted on four adjacent faces and then cut into 216 smaller cubes. How many cubes
have exactly 2 faces painted?
Answer: The edge cubes shared by the 4 painted faces have 2 faces painted.
There are 12 such edges, and each edge contributes n−2=6−2=4n - 2 = 6 - 2 = 4 cubes with 2 faces
painted.
Total: 12×4 = 48 cubes.
20. A cube is painted on all faces and then cut into 64 smaller cubes. How many cubes have exactly 2
adjacent faces painted?
Answer: Edge cubes, excluding the corners, have 2 faces painted.
Total edges: 12, each contributing n−2=4−2= 2 such cubes.
Total: 12×2= 24 cubes.
21. A cube has an edge length of 10 cm and is cut into smaller cubes of 2 cm edge. How many of
these smaller cubes are there in total?
Answer: Total smaller cubes = (10/2) ^3= 125.
22. A cube is painted on only one face and then cut into 64 smaller cubes. How many of these smaller
cubes have paint on one face?
Answer: For a 4×4 painted face, only the face-centre cubes will have paint on one face.
Total: (4 - 2) ^2 = 2^2 = 4 cubes.
23. A cube is painted on two opposite faces and cut into 125 smaller cubes. How many cubes have no
paint?
Answer: Inner cubes without contact to painted faces form a (5 - 2) ^3 = 3^3 = 27 cube.
Total: 27 cubes.
24. A cube has a volume of 64 cm³ and is cut into smaller cubes of 1 cm³ each. How many faces of the
original cube were painted?
Answer: The original cube has 6 faces, all of which are painted (since this is always true for a
cube regardless of its volume).
25. A cube is divided into 64 smaller cubes, and all faces of the original cube are painted. How many
smaller cubes are painted on exactly 2 faces and belong to the same edge?
Answer: Each edge has n−2=4−2= 2 cubes painted on 2 faces.
There are 12 edges. Total: 12×2=24 cubes.
