5 Member GROUP ASSIGNMENT

EEE_ETI 4102: Assignment 1 Due Date 26/08/2022 @1pm

1. A three phase 50 Hz transmission line has twin conductors as shown in

Fig 1. below with horizontal spacing of 6m. Each sub-conductor of the
bundle has a diameter of 25mm and spacing between the sub-conductors
is 0.3m. Each phase group shares the total load current and charge
equally. The line is completely transposed.

a) Determine the line inductance per kilometre and the line inductive
reactance per phase per kilometre. [5]
b) If the sub-conductors of each phase are replaced by single conductors,
calculate the percentage decrease in inductive reactance due to
bundling. Assume the cross-sectional area of each single conductor is
equal to the total area of the two sub-conductors of a phase. [5]
2. A 15km long 3-phase overhead line delivers 5MW at 11kV at a power
factor of 0.8 lagging. Lines loss is 12% of the power delivered. Line
inductance is 1.1mH per km per phase. Calculate, (a) sending voltage and
regulation (b) power factor of the load to make regulation zero, (c) the value
of capacitor to be connected at the end to reduce regulation to zero. [10]
3. A 200km long 3-phase overhead line has a resistance of 48.7Ω per phase,
inductive reactance of 80.20Ω per phase and capacitance (line to neutral)
8.42nF per km. It supplies a load of 13.5MW at a voltage of 88kV and a
power factor 0.9 lagging. Using nominal-T circuit, calculate the sending
end voltage, current, regulation and power angle. [10]
