3. DESIGN LOAD CONSIDERATIONS

For structural design various loading to act upon the structures includes dead, imposed,
wind and earthquake loads.

3.LOADS CALCULATION:
3.1 DEAD LOAD:
Dead load includes weight of all structural and architectural components. Self-weight
of the materials is calculated on the basis of unit weights as specified in IS: 875 Part-I:
1987.
Slab thickness – 125 mm
Concrete density = 25 kN/Cu.m
Total Dead load = 0.125x25x1 = 3.125 kN/sq.m
Floor finish load = 0.05x25 = 1.25 kN/sq.m
TOTAL LOAD = 4.375 kN/sq.m
Wall load (230 mm thick) = 0.23x2.675x20 = 12.305 kN/m

Wall load (115mm thick) = 0.115x2.675x20 = 6.15 kN/m

3.2 LIVE LOAD:
Live Loads are considered as per IS-875 (part-2) (Table 1)
2 kN/sq.m Standard value of the live load from Residential building.

3.3 SEISMIC LOADS:
Seismic loads for design of structures are considered as per IS 1893 Part-I.
1. The Building is at Zone- III
2. Zone factor- 0.16,
3. Importance factor (I) - 1,
4. Response reduction factor (R) – 3,
5. Avg. response acceleration coefficients (Sa/g) - As per soil conditions.
6. Damping ratio = 5 %
3.4Wind Load:

Wind Loads is calculated based on IS: 875 Part – 3-2015 for design of structures.
The parameters for calculation of design wind speed as per IS: 875 as follows:
Basic wind speed (Vb) = 50 m/s
Probability factor (K1) =1
Topography factor (K3) =1
Importance factor (K4) =1
Design wind speed (Vz) = Vb x K1 x K2 x K3xK4
Design wind pressure (Pz) = 0.6 x (Vz x Vz) N/m2
Terrain, Height and structure size factor Category - 2 CLASS – C
K2 is calculated by Staad pro based on the defined category and class of
the building

3.4 LOAD COMBINATIONS

The various loads shall be combined in accordance with the stipulations in IS: 875 (Part
5) – 1987, IS: 456 – 2000, IS: 1893 (Part1) -2002. The combination that produces the
most unfavorable effect in the building, foundation or structural member concerned
shall be adopted for design.
Wind load and earthquake load shall be considered for both X & Z directions. The
above load combinations will be considered and effect of worst combinations will be
taken for design of various building elements.
Appropriate part of imposed load as specified in IS: 1893 – 2002 will be used for
evaluating earthquake effect.
Live load reduction is considered in analysis as per IS-875-part-2 Appendix –A

4 MATERIALS AND GRADES

The proposed structure is a reinforced concrete structure with the following
mentioned main materials

4.1 Concrete Grade

The concrete shall be in grades designated as per Table 2 IS: 456 -2000. The
various structural elements concrete grades are listed below

Structural Element Grade

Pile M25
Columns M25
Beams and Slabs M25

The mix proportions for the above mentioned mixes shall be conforming to IS: 10262
-2009.

4.2 Concrete Reinforcement

For reinforcement, high strength deformed steel bars of grade Fe500 with design
yield strength of 500N/mm2 is used for all structural reinforced members, which shall
be confirming to IS: 1786 -1959.

4.3 Reinforcement Cover

Since the structure is located away from sea shore area and non-exposed to
corrosive environment, the critical exposure conditions are considered as moderate.
However, the structural elements below ground level and exterior external faces of
walls are designed for moderate exposure condition and internal faces of walls, floor
beams and slabs are designed for mild exposure conditions per table 16 of IS: 456-2000.

Columns 40 mm
Beams 25 mm
Slabs 20 mm

5. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

5.1 Method of Design

The structure and all structural elements will be designed by Limit State Method
with relevant codal provisions as per Indian standards.

5.2 Software
For the efficient and faster design of the structure under static and dynamic loads
the following software are used.
Software Purpose
