CE Lab 14_PID Control of Flow Sensor

The lab report focuses on the closed loop PI control of flow using a flow control trainer, detailing objectives, apparatus, procedure, results, and safety precautions. The experiment demonstrates the effectiveness of a PI controller in managing flow rates, revealing some regulation issues around the set point due to potential errors. Conclusions highlight the importance of understanding both proportional and integral control in achieving desired flow rates.

Objectives:
● Getting familiar with PID closed loop control.
● Working of PID controller.
● Familiarity with flow control trainer.

Apparatus:
● Flow Control Trainer.
● Wires.
● DMM.

Circuit Diagram:

Procedure:
● Build the connections as given in the circuit diagram.

Connections of flow module per experiment

● Give power to water pump driver at point 8 from set point 2, and build
bridge connecting 9-9.
● In flow sensor interface, connect 1-1 and connect point 3 with PID
controller’s point 3.
● Connect positive node of PID controller with set point 1 and its output
with motorized valve driver.
● Adjust the Kp, Ki and Kd values to 25% from PID controller according to
requirement.
● Perform the experiment for PI combination.

Results and Discussions:

A PI controller combines the benefits of proportional control for quick
response to current error and integral control for addressing any long-term
or steady-state error as shown from data. P response is activated at large
errors, however integral controller is activated at any range of value and acts
in slow but steady rate

Conclusions:
Our data shows that the trend is not fully regulated about the set point, the
possible reasons of the error are
● Instrumental error.
● Parallax error.

Safety Precautions:
⮚ Always wear safety goggles, lab coats, closed-toed shoes, and gloves
when working in the lab
⮚ Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures for fires, electrical
shocks, chemical spills, and personal injuries
⮚ Disconnect power sources when working on circuits or equipment.
Follow electrical safety guidelines to prevent shocks or electrical
hazards.
⮚ Inspect equipment before use, report any faults, and handle all lab
tools and equipment with care
