CE Lab 11_PI and PD Control of Level Sensor

The lab report focuses on the closed loop P-I and P-D control of a level sensor, aiming to familiarize students with PID control in level control systems. The results indicate that the P-I controller stabilizes the level around the desired value, while the P-D controller shows less stability due to low error and equal Kp and Kd values. Safety precautions are emphasized, including the use of protective gear and adherence to electrical safety guidelines.

Objectives:
● Familiarity with (PID) control in level control system.
● Use of P-I and P-D controller in control system.
● Familiarity with level control training system

Apparatus:
● Level Control module.
● leads.
● DMM.

Circuit Diagram:
Level Control Module

Procedure:
● Build the connections as given in the circuit diagram.
ME-339 Control Engineering Lab

● Connect set point 1 to DMM to regulate the voltage.

● Connect PID controller to water pump driver at point 10, and in the
drive build connections i.e. 11-11 and 12-12.
● In the level sensor interface, connect point 1-1 and 2-2 and point 5 of
sensor to point 5 of PID controller.
● Switch on the system and give 25% value of Kp, Ki and Kd according to
combination.

Results and Discussions:

The integral part helps keep the level steady around the desired value, as
seen in the graph and table. On the other hand, the derivative control causes
a quick level change when there's an error. However, our results don't show
this trend because our error is low, and the fact that Kp and Kd values are
the same also plays a role.

Conclusions:
The stabilize trend is almost shown in case of PI combination but there is
some error in case of PD’s trend. There can be some error in the values and
the possible reasons for the errors are;
● Parallax error.
● Rest of timeliness in noting down time.

Safety Precautions:
⮚ Always wear safety goggles, lab coats, closed-toed shoes, and gloves
when working in the lab
⮚ Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures for fires, electrical
shocks, chemical spills, and personal injuries

⮚ Disconnect power sources when working on circuits or equipment.

Follow electrical safety guidelines to prevent shocks or electrical
hazards.
⮚ Inspect equipment before use, report any faults, and handle all lab
tools and equipment with care
