The Impact of Parental Involvement

on the Academic Performances of the

Grade 10 Students in Central Pangasinan
Adventist School
Background of the Study
Many researchers recognize the important role that strong
positive bond between homes and schools, play in the development
and education of children (Edwards & Alldred, 2000; Henderson &
Berla, 1994; Richardson, 2009; Sanders & Sheldon, 2009; Sheldon,
2009). Research has also shown that successful students’ have
strong academic support from their involved parents (Sheldon,
2009). Furthermore, research on effective schools, those where
students are learning and achieving, has consistently shown that
these schools despite often working in low social and economic
neighborhoods, have strong and positive school-home relationships
(Sanders & Sheldon, 2009; Sheldon, 2009).
When it comes to academic performance, parents' motivation
can have a variety of effects on their children, including
learning at home, talking about goals and accomplishments in
school, and participating in extracurricular activities.
Motivation for this study is based on the fact that some students
are exceptionally good in their work, while some extremely bad.
Such as when some variations in scores are traced it is more
often discovered that family background is a major contributory
factor.
This study emphasizes the importance and seeks to explore
the impact of parental motivation to the performance of students
in school. It also looks to the various motivational strategies
used by parents. It is clear that the child will be motivated and
driven to excel academically. Parental motivation is a powerful
force in a student's life, affecting not only immediate outcomes
such as academic performance but also long-term emotional and
social development. This research aims to answer the question:
How influence does parental motivation on student’s academic
performances in school?
Research Problem
The impact of parental engagement on student’s performance
is a concern of outcomes performance of the students. The impact
of parents' strategies for motivation on grade 10
students’ academic performance and achievement across the entire
learning system is the specific topic of this study. The most
important aspects of student’s success are highlighted as being
parental involvement, support, and encouragement. The exact
effect that parents motivate has on their children' academic
success. The results of this research problem aim to investigate
on how parental encouragement and support affects their
children's academic performance. The problem here is: Do Grade 10
students who get parental motivation through actions by having
their parents monitor their academic progress or provide
resources perform better in school than those who do not receive
a parental motivation or receive such pressure?
Statement of the Problem
This study examines the Impact of Parents motivation on
academic performances of Junior High School Students at Central
Pangasinan Adventist School. The academic success of children is
significantly influenced by their parents. Academic progress for
students can be affected by several kinds of factors, one of that
is the encouragement programs in which parents engage. But
parents can motivate their kids in many ways. While some may
establish high standards or discuss the value of education,
others may offer assistance with schoolwork. Students also
participate in extracurricular activities such as clubs, music,
and athletics. These kinds of activities help students to explore
their interests and develop social skills. Parents' high
expectations might cause children to experience anxiety and
stress because they feel pressured to perform perfectly in both
their extracurricular and academic activities. It can be
difficult and even frustrating to balance school with these
extracurriculars. In particular, the topic is how parental
motivation impact the student’s performance on their academic
achievements and participating in extracurricular.

This study will investigate the several ways that parents

contribute in their children's education, give them emotional
support, and stimulate their development. It will also seek to
identify any negative effects of parental motivation, such
increased stress or pressure on students. The study will also
investigate on how parental motivation affects students' learning
outcomes, time management abilities, specifically when it comes
to the challenge of balancing extracurricular activities and
academic responsibilities at school.
