The document outlines the first module of the BEEE307L Electric Drives course, focusing on the dynamics of electric drives, including types of loads, multi-quadrant operation, and motor power rating selection. It includes numerical problems related to motor characteristics, equilibrium speed, moment of inertia, and braking time calculations. The course aims to help students understand the basic operation and characteristics of electric drive systems.

motor drives (BL2, BL3) Obj: Understand the concepts and basic operation of electric drive system Numerical problems 2.2 A motor is used to drive a hoist. Motor characteristics are given by Quadrants I, II: T = 200-0.2N Nm Quadrant III, IV: T = -200-0.2N Nm Where N is the speed in rpm. When hoist is loaded, the net load torque Tl = 100 Nm and when it is unloaded, the net load torque Tl = -80 Nm. Obtain the equilibrium speed for operation in all the four quadrants 06.01.2025 Lecture 8_Module 1_BEEE307L 2 Numerical problems 2.5 In the mechanism shown in Fig., motor drives the winch drum through a reduction gear with a gear tooth ratio of 0.1. The friction torque at the winch shaft is 15 Nm and the motor shaft is 10 Nm. Motor speed is 1500 rpm. Calculate the equivalent moment of inertia of the drive referred to motor shaft and motor torque if gears have an efficiency of 90%.
