Course Title: Basic Electronics

Course Codes: GE-102
Total Marks - 50

Name: _______________________________

Registration Number: ___________________

Section: ______________________________

This assignment contains assessment from CLO2

CLO# Course Learning Outcome (CLO) Taxonomy PLO

Students will be able to apply the concepts of solid-state C3 PLO 2
CLO 2 devices, including PN diodes and Zener diodes, to solve
circuits involving these devices.

Instructions:
1. Write your answer showing all steps required to perform the task.
2. Assignment should be submitted on A4 sheets or Assignment sheets only.
3. Due Date for Assignment is January 15, 2025.
4. There is no late submission because Late submission will result in 15% deduction in
marks.

Question 01:-
Draw the V −I characteristics curve of a germanium diode with a breakdown voltage equal to sum of
digits of your roll number, and label the curve appropriately. Additionally, draw the substrate model of a
P-N junction diode and label all its parts accurately.

Question 02:-
Suppose you have a bridge rectifier constructed using silicon diodes. The rectifier is connected to a
voltage source with Vin(sec)=( your rollnumber ) Vp− p sinewave of frequency 25Hz, and a 10kΩ
load resistor.
1. Draw the circuit diagram of the bridge rectifier.

2. Sketch the input voltage (Vi) waveform on graph paper.

3. Illustrate the current flow directions for each cycle on the circuit diagram using different colors
for pointers.

4. Calculate the output voltage (Vout).

5. Sketch the output voltage (Vout )waveform on graph paper.

6. Determine the average output voltage.

7. Calculate the average voltage (VAve ) .

8. Identify the output frequency (fout ).

9. Name the type of unfiltered DC obtained at the rectifier's output.

10. Define the peak inverse voltage (PIV ).

11. Calculate the PIV for the circuit.

Question 03:
Assume you are given a source voltage V s=10 V p p having sinewave of frequency 50Hz, and a 1kΩ
load resistor connected in half wave rectifier circuit,
1. Draw the circuit diagram of the circuit.
