Inspection and Testing Plan
Inspection and Testing Plan
Solar Panel
Physical Observation
Physical intactness of the frame and issues such as corrosion or delamination are noted.
The aim of the test is to measure the voltage, turn the multimeter on and set the selection knob
on the multimeter to DC voltage.
After this, place the black probe on the negative terminal of the solar panel. Meanwhile, connect
the red probe to the positive terminal. Remember, the black probe always goes into the COM slot. On
the other hand, the red probe fits into the V/Ω/Hz slot.
Next, bring the solar panel into the sun and face it towards the south at an inclination to achieve
the best results at site conditions. Note the Open Circuit Voltage, Open Circuit Voltage, Open Circuit
Voltage, Vo reading and compare it to the voltage (Open Circuit Voltage, Open Circuit Voltage, Open
Circuit Voltage, Voc at NMOT) on the product data sheet.
If the values are close, the solar panel is in good condition. However, if the measured value and
datasheet value are wide range difference means that the panel is dirty or damaged. A wiring issue is
possible as well.
Operational current value will be depended on the battery charge level and real time solar
irradiance and ambient temperature.
Check the cable termination and make sure the cable terminates are properly fastened and tight.
Battery
Physical Observation
Physical intactness of the battery casing to be observed. Issues like signs of electrolyte leakage to be
checked.
Testing the battery polarity and Voltage level
Instruments used: Multimeter
Before conducting the test, make sure that the battery is fully charged and has not been used for at
least 24 hours to stabilize its voltage (Turn off LED solar street light connected to the battery before the
test.).
For the testing battery polarity and battery voltage level place the black probe of the Multimeter into
the COM slot. On the other hand, the red probe fits into the V/Ω/Hz slot. Select the multimeter on the
DC voltage position.
Measure the battery voltage and battery polarity
Check the cable termination and battery terminal Leg and make sure the cable
terminates are properly fastened and tight.
A solar charge controller is a regulator that keeps voltage or current from solar panels in check to
avoid the batteries overcharging and discharging.
The aim of the test is to measure the voltage, turn the multimeter on and set the selection knob
on the multimeter to DC voltage. After this, place the black probe on the negative terminal of the
charge controller. Meanwhile, connect the red probe to the positive terminal. Remember, the black
probe always goes into the COM slot. On the other hand, the red probe fits into the V/Ω/Hz slot and
crosscheck the measured value with the solar charge controller battery/Load protective voltage range.
Check the cable termination and make sure the cable terminates are properly fastened and tight.
Check the LED indications & warning functions
Green LED is” Flashing” and its “ON” that means that charge controller detect day and night respectively
Solar Panel – “OFF” means battery is charging
Light symbol – “OFF” Load Ok
