Data Logger

The document discusses how obstacles like metal, liquids, and walls can hinder RFID performance and suggests optimizing antennas to reduce interference. It introduces Fonoster, an open-source platform for voice and messaging that can be utilized in attendance logging and notifications. Additionally, it outlines the implementation of time-based restrictions for attendance recording during school hours.

How Obstacles Affect RFID Performance

1. Metal: Think of metal like a shield. It blocks RFID signals, much like how a
metal locker door can block radio waves. This means the RFID reader might
not be able to pick up the signal from the RFID tag if there's metal in the
way.
2. Liquids: Similar to how water can mess up your walkie-talkie, liquids like
water can absorb RFID signals, making it hard for the signal to reach the
reader.
3. Walls: Imagine how thick walls can stop Wi-Fi from reaching your room.
RFID signals also have trouble passing through thick walls, especially if
they are made of materials like concrete or metal.

In conclusion : Since we are not doing stuff underwater or through walls ,

we do not need to worry about the obstacles.

Reducing Interference By optimizing the Antennas

Choose Good Antennas: Get high-quality antennas that can “hear” signals
well.

Use Filters: Filters help separate good signals from noise.

Fix Connections: Make sure cables are securely connected to avoid bad
signals.

Check the Area: Survey where you’ll put antennas to avoid obstacles.

Smart Placement: Put antennas in open areas, away from others.

Keep Some Distance: Separate antennas to reduce interference.

What is Fonoster?
Fonoster is an open-source platform that provides voice and messaging
capabilities

How Does Fonoster Work?

1. API Access: Fonoster provides APIs for voice and messaging

functionalities.
2. Open Source: Since it’s open source, it can be freely customized and used.
3. Setup: Requires setup on a server, but once done, it offers a lot of flexibility.

How Fonoster Can be used in our project:

Log Attendance: The teacher marks who is present and who is absent using the
data logger.

Process Attendance: The data logger records all the attendance information in its
system.

Trigger Notifications: Whenever a student is marked as absent, the data logger uses
Fonoster to send a text message to their parents notifying them of the absence. 📲

Implementing Time Based Restrictions:

Define Allowed Times: For instance, you might want to record attendance only
during school hours, say from 8 AM to 4 PM. Then if students enter the school late
their attendance wont be counted or they will be marked late . Like If a student
enters at 8:05 - 9 am then they will be marked late , we could also implement that
if they are repeatedly late for 3 days they will be marked as absent.
