Vibration Analysis Report

Dated: 30-03-2014

Sand Filter Pump “A”

Observation

Vibration was recorded high on this equipment with dominating peak at 1X and 2X. This combination is a symptom
of misalignment.
Time waveform shows the same components dominants as shown below.

Consistent Time Waveform

Misalignment Symptom with high vibration

Misalignment Symptom with high vibration

Recommendation
It is recommended to inspect its alignment and properly realign the machine. Also inspect its coupling elements as
a preventive measure, as it is a general observation that poor misalignment leads to coupling elements wear.

Aux. Cooling Water Pump “B”

Observation

Although vibration on this equipment is within the limits but demodulation spectrum is showing abnormal
excitation at high frequency with low amplitude.
FFT spectrum is showing overall vibration well within limits with a peak at high frequency (49575 CPM). This high
frequency peak is most probably from bearing.
Time waveform of velocity at NDE bearing is showing abnormal sound while demodulation waveform is showing
enhanced sound beats as observed below:

Demodulation spectrum and waveform enhanced sound beats at consistent intevals

High frequency component observed in Spectrum

Time Waveform showing abnormal bearing condition

Recommendation

It is recommended to inspect motor NDE bearing condition. Up till available downtime, lubricate this bearing. Also
provide us bearings numbers for our record to update the database and quick fault diagnostics.
Cooling Tower Make-Up Pump “B”

Observation

High vibration is recorded on this equipment up to 6mm/sec RMS. FFT spectrum and time waveform analysis
shows dominating peak at 1X and sinusoidal waveform which indicates foundation related problem like weak
foundation and foundation bolts looseness.
Sharpness in sine waveform is also a symptom of misalignment, which might be the secondary cause of foundation
problem.
Cavitation is also observed in this pump. High vibration is affecting the equipment bearings.

Cavitation symptoms

Recommendation

It is recommended to check its foundation for weakness and motor mounting bolts for looseness. Also check its
alignment and adjust its suction and discharge valves to remove cavitation. High vibration on this equipment may
cause secondary damage.

Cooling Tower Fans “2 & 5”

Observation

Demodulation is slightly higher than normal limits at motor DE position. Bearing lubrication will suffice for these
equipment.

Main Cooling Water Pump “A”

Observation

Vibration is recorded slightly high on this equipment with noise in spectrum and waveform along with 3x, 6x and
9x peaks. Demodulation related to bearing at pump DE bearing is also high.

Motor DE bearing Spectrum+Waveform

Recommendation

Since we don’t have its impeller details, neither we had access to pump NDE bearing; the recommendation would
be most probable cause.

Vibration is most probably due flow turbulence in this pump. This can be controlled by adjusting its suction and
discharge valves.

It is also recommended to check pump DE bearing’s lubrication oil status and keep it under monitoring. Monitor its
bearing temperature and sound.
Main Cooling Water Pump “B”
Observation

Vibration is high on pump DE and NDE bearings with dominating peaks at 6x along with raised floor.

Demodulation is also high on both pump bearings with no significant peaks.

Recommendation

Vibration is high on pump bearings due to flow turbulence, it is recommended to adjust its suction and discharge
valves position to remove turbulence. Also inspect its impeller condition in available downtime. Also check
lubrication status of pump bearings.
