Network CCNA 3
Network CCNA 3
Hardware:
● Nodes (computer, printer,…)
● Network Interface card (NIC): wired or wireless
● Media: wired or wireless
● Network devices: (Hub, Switch, Repeater, Router, Modem, Bridge )
Network Devices
Repeater:
Network Devices (cont…)
Repeater:
● Repeater is a network hardware device that generates
an incoming signal from the sender before
retransmitting it to the receiver.
● It also known as a signal booster and it helps in
extending the coverage area of networks.
● It is two port devices
● When the signal becomes weak, the repeater copy the
it bit by bit and regenerate it.

Hub:
Network Devices (cont…)
Hub:
● Hub is a device that links multiple computers and
devices together.
● Each connected device is on the same subnet and
receives all data sent to the hub.
● Data is sent from one device to another via hub and can
be exchange between any two devices connected to
the hub.
Network Devices (cont…)
Hub:
● Network hubs can be beneficial in scenarios that
require multiple devices with different speeds or
capabilities to be connected together on the same
network.
● Hubs can not filter data, so data packets are sent to all
connected devices.
Network Devices (cont…)
Hub:
Types of Hubs:
1. Active Hub: these are the hubs that have their power
supply and can clean, boost and relay the signal along
with the network. It serves both as a repeater as well as a
wiring center. These are used to extend the maximum
distance between nodes.

Hub:
2. Passive Hub: these are the hubs that collect wiring from
nodes and power supply from the active hub .these hubs
relay signals onto the network without cleaning and
boosting them and con not be used to extend the
distance between nodes.
3. IntelligentHub: ?

Switch:
Network Devices (cont…)
Switch:
● It is a network device that is used to segment the
networks into different subnetworks.
● It is responsible for filtering and forwarding the packets
based on MAC address.
● Switch have many ports and when data arrives at any
port, the destination address is examined first and
some checks are also done and then it is processed to
the devices.
Network Devices (cont…)
Switch:
● Different types of communication are supported like:
unicast, multicast, and broadcast communication
● It performs error checking before forwarding data.
● Network devices are made with the help of switches
that carry a large number of traffic in
telecommunication.
Network Devices (cont…)
Switch :
● When the source wants to send the data packet to the
destination, the packet first enters the switch and the
switch reads its header and finds the MAC address of
the destination to identify the device then it sends the
packet out through the appropriate ports that lead to
the destination devices.
Network Devices (cont…)
Switch :
● Switch establishes a temporary connection between
the source and destination for communication and
terminates the connection once the conversation is
done.
● It offers full bandwidth to network traffic going to and
from a device simultaneously to reduce collision.

Switch:
Types of switch:
1. Virtual Switches
2. Routing switches
3. Unmanaged Switches
4. Managed switches
5. Smart switched
