BLENDED LEARNING
What is Blended Learning?
 Blended learning combines the benefits of traditional classroom teaching with emerging
technology and online educational resources to make learning more real-time,
contextual, and engaging.
Why Blended Learning?
In the past decade, teachers at higher and lower educational institutions have organically adopted
blended learning as a meaningful learning tool in and out of the classroom. Luckily, corporate learning is
catching up. The success of blended learning is due to five main benefits :
 Accounting for Everyone
 Blended learning takes every type of learner into account, whether they prefer the
familiar traditional classroom, would rather learn online, or try a mixture of both.
 Learning Trends and Feedback
 Blended learning uses online and offline technologies in tandem, allowing instructors to
quickly adopt the latest learning trends and modalities into the curriculum.
 For learners, blended learning also offers the unique opportunity to discuss, model, and
practice their new skills in a safe space, so they’re not just watching or hearing—they’re
doing.
 Lower Costs
 . A blended eLearning approach cuts down on travel costs and can be used again and
again, which reduces instructor time as well.
 Fun and Engagement
 Blended learning is an interactive experience in every sense of the word. Learners
reinforce the offline lessons by practicing online through a variety of different content
media, each geared to suit a certain learning style.

TYPES OF BLENDED LEARNING

Here are the five most common types of blended learning frameworks:
1. Flipped Model
 In the flipped model, traditional classroom instruction is inverted. Learners first
encounter the instructional content outside of class, typically through video lectures,
readings, or online modules. Then, in-class time is dedicated to active learning activities,
discussions, group projects, and exercises that reinforce and apply the pre-learned
material.
2. Face-to-face driver model
 The face-to-face driver blended learning model is the closest to traditional classroom
training, as most of the training takes place in a classroom setting under the guidance of
an instructor.
3. Rotational model
 In the rotational model, learners rotate between different learning modalities, such as
face-to-face instruction, online activities, small-group discussions, and independent study.
4. Flex model
 The flex model provides learners with significant autonomy and control over their
learning path. It combines online learning with in-person support as needed. Using an
adaptive learning platform, learners have the flexibility to choose when and where they
access online content and resources, making it suitable for self-paced learning.
5. Enriched virtual model
 The enriched virtual model is primarily an online learning experience with periodic face-
to-face sessions. Most of the learning occurs in a virtual environment, but learners attend
physical classes, or workshops at designated times for hands-on activities, assessments,
or collaborative projects.
6. Online driver model
 The online driver learning model offers the maximum amount of learner autonomy.
Participants make their way through the learning models at their own pace, and according
to their own drive and motivation.

BENEFITS OF THE BLENDED LEARNING

While there are many student and learner benefits of implementing a blended learning model, here are
five of the most impactful benefits.
1) Different people learn different things in different ways
 With so many different learning styles to address, a blended learning solution makes
sense. For people who learn visually or through reading and ideally alone, online self-
paced video delivery would be the best mode. Social and aural learners would gain most
from live instructor-led classrooms. Meanwhile, hands-on practice from engaging in
applied learning projects would satisfy kinesthetic and logical learners.
2) Using multiple modalities dramatically reinforces engagement, learning and retention
 Numerous studies show how for most people, learning is improved by combining
different activities alongside more passive study. Ideally, these could include the “human”
element of interaction, such as threaded discussions, video conferencing and internal
social media forums to share and compare knowledge and to encourage and demonstrate
the effective application of newly learned skills to the workplace.
3) Learners can control the pace of their learning
 People learn best when they have some control over their learning. Choice reduces
learner apathy, relieves some of the stress of the learning process and motivates people to
engage with the material.
4) Blended learning saves money
 Blended learning reduces instructor fees, company travel expenses and training materials;
enables distance learning at a global scale; and can greatly soften the impact training has
on daily operations and the employees themselves.
5) Blended learning is modular and scalable
 Especially useful for large, global enterprises, blended learning is modular and scalable,
both upward and downward. Dedicated classroom training takes a lot of time to set up
and participate in, making it not economical on an ad hoc basis.
 However, online learning libraries alone lack the engagement, practical exercise and
personal feedback that optimize learning. In contrast, by providing easily accessible
training content backed by opportunities for live virtual-instructor interaction and applied
projects, a blended learning program enables employees to upskill quickly in a specific
technology or subject.

How to develop a blended learning model?

The main steps to successfully implement a blended learning model are as follows:
1. Have a plan. Implementing a blended learning model involves a strategic change that
requires, in turn, a plan from the centre’s management.
2. Take it step by step. Setting clear objectives and systematically implementing the plan
allows you to learn quickly from any mistakes. In addition, small successes bring
knowledge and motivation
3. Involve the staff of the centre. It is vital to consult with teachers, but also students and
parents, to better understand what they need and want at all times.
4. Have suitable resources. The materials for online teaching are different from those for
face-to-face teaching. Attractive interactive content enhances the learning experience.
5. Adapt the technology to the needs. It is necessary to consider how technology can help
teachers and students achieve the best possible learning.
6. Evaluate the results. Collecting the data and analysing the information constantly is the
best way to know whether the objectives have been achieved or not.
