Chapter 3 Final

Chapter 3 outlines the research design and methodology of a study examining the impact of Modular Modality on the academic performance of senior high school students at Vicente Andaya Sr. National High School. It consists of three parts: the purpose and research design, methods including participant details and data gathering instruments, and the process of analyzing data. The study employs a survey correlational method with a sample of 20 students and utilizes a Likert questionnaire for data collection.

Chapter 3

Research Design and Methodology

Chapter 3 contains research design and methodology used in

this study. It is made up of three parts: (1) Purpose and

Research Design, (2) Methods, and (3) Process of Analyzing

Data.

Part One, Purpose and research Design, reaffirms the

main problem and explain the research design used in the

study.

Part Two, Methods, discuss participants involved in the

study, data gathering procedures, and data gathering

instruments.

Part Three, Process of Analyzing Data, describe the

procedures to be used in conducting research.

Purpose of the Study and Research Design

The main purpose of the study is to attain empirical

based understanding of the impact of Modular Modality on the

academic performance in senior High School students of

Vicente Andaya Sr. National High School, Poblacion Sur,

Sigma Capiz.
The research design used in the study

was the survey correlational method by Fraenkel and Wallen

(2009) states that survey is used as a descriptive method to

further analyze the quality and accuracy of the study

objectives. Surveys can be valuable when an analyst needs

information on peculiarities that can't be straightforwardly

noticed. Then again, correlation research examines

connections between at least two arrangements of

information. This plan similarly decides the degree of which

various factors are connected with one another.

The independent variables in this study were the

modular modality while the dependent variable was the

academic performance of Senior High School Students.

Method

Participants

The participants of the study will be two focus groups,

in group one will be ten (10) Grade 11 students and in group

two will be ten (10) Grade 12 students of the Vicente Andaya

Sr. National High School, tallying to twenty (20) overall

respondents regardless of gender, and section, and

educational status will be participating in the survey to be

conducted by the researchers. The number of participants

were determined using the formula of Slovin’s. The sampling

procedures used were stratified random sampling by Sulivan

(2008).

To determine the appropriate sample size, the Sloven’s

formula was used. The formula is:

n =

where:

n = sample size

N = population

e = margin of error

l = constant value

Data Gathering-Instruments

Likert Questionnaire. It intends to measure the

attitudes by asking people to respond to a series of

statements about a topic, in terms of the extent to which

they agree with them, and so tapping into cognitive and

effective components of attitudes.

Data in this study were gathered using the researcher's

made questionnaire. After the validity of the instrument had

been ascertained permission to conduct the study was secured

from the Senior High school teachers and Students of Vicente

Andaya Sr. National Highschool. Researcher's gave a brief

orientation to respondents regarding the study.

The researcher gathered data on Senior Highschool

students of Vicente Andaya Senior National High School using

twenty (20) item researcher-made questionnaires with 4 point

scale. It was rated according to the level of student’s

attitudes, opinions, or perceptions (S. Jamieson, 2004).

The traditional way to report on a Likert scale is to

sum the values of each selected option and create a score

for each respondent. For statistical purposes, the

following:

Weight Responses

4 Always

3 Often

2 Sometimes

1 Rarely

Data Gathering Procedures

Before the researchers conducted the questionnaire to

the respondents, the researchers ask permission first to the

respective teachers of Vicente Andaya Sr. National High

school, to allow them conduct a questionnaire to the Senior

High school students. And at the specific day, respondents

will response properly with the answers on the following

questionnaire.

The researchers got a chance to organize and orient the

respondents on how to accomplish the questionnaires. After

all the questionnaires were answered, these were collected,

retrieved, tallied, tabulated and analyzed using the

appropriate statistical tools.
