Report on the Research Paper: "E-learning platforms in ideological and political
education at universities: students’ motivation and learning performance"

1. Abstract
This report examines the study conducted by Huabing Yang, which investigates the impact of the
MOODLE e-learning platform on student motivation and academic performance in ideological and
political education at Chinese universities.
The research involved 447 students, divided into an experimental group using MOODLE and a control
group relying on traditional methods.
The findings indicate that e-learning significantly enhances student motivation and academic
performance, highlighting the importance of integrating digital tools into educational practices.

2. Introduction
As a means of distance learning, the Internet provides almost unlimited access to high-quality educational
resources . The rapid development of networked educational technologies necessitates continuous
improve ment of ideological and political education based on them as the most critical aspect of education
for the builders of a socialist society . Accordingly, ensuring a high ideological and political education
level is essen tial to the education system. Its development prospects are considered in the context of the
use of artificial intel ligence and e-learning platforms, which places high demands on the quality of
building an educational infor mation system and network ideological and political edu cation platform

2.1 Background
In the context of globalization, political activity is essential for socio-economic development, scientific
progress, and technological advancement.
Education is recognized as a foundational pillar for national development in China, particularly in
ideological and political education, which shapes students' values and beliefs.

2.2 Importance of Ideological Education

Ideological and political education plays a critical role in moral education within Chinese universities.
It aims to instill ideals and beliefs that align with national objectives, contributing to the formation of
responsible citizens who can actively participate in society.

2.3 Role of E-Learning Platforms

The advent of digital technologies has transformed traditional educational practices, making e-learning
platforms like MOODLE vital tools for enhancing teaching effectiveness.
These platforms provide access to diverse resources, promote interactive learning experiences, and
facilitate personalized education.
3. Literature Review
Teaching and learning in an online environment ensured the continuity of the educational process during
the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating the promise and potential of using e-learning platforms to
expand educational opportunities. The adaptation of the education sector to technological progress, the
spread of Internet technologies, cloud and wireless technologies with 4G and 5G support occurs through
the replacement of traditional audiences with online audiences, electronic classes and video conferencing,
and the use of educational applications and websites

3.1Theoretical Framework
The literature indicates a growing trend towards digitalization in education, particularly during the
COVID-19 pandemic when online learning became essential for continuity in education.
E-learning platforms have been shown to enhance student engagement through gamification and
interactive features.

3.1 Previous Research on E-Learning and Motivation

Research highlights the positive impact of intrinsic motivation on academic success.
Studies have demonstrated that e-learning platforms can foster motivation by providing engaging
content, immediate feedback, and opportunities for collaboration among students.

4. Methodology

Research Design
The study was designed to be conducted in stages. In the first stage, the relevance of the research topic
was determined, and the sources of scientific literature on the problem of digitization of education and the
use of e-learning platforms in ideological and political education were analyzed.
The study employed a quantitative approach involving two groups: an experimental group utilizing
MOODLE and a control group relying on traditional teaching methods.

Research procedure
The sample of respondents was selected by a simple random sampling method from undergraduate
students who are receiving ideological and political education at universities in China. The data collection
process was carried out in the form of testing using a Google form. Initially, 500 questionnaires were sent
out, but 38 students refused to participate in the study at various stages, while 15 respondents failed to
answer all the test items.

Participants
A total of 447 university students from various institutions in China participated in the study:
- **Experimental Group**: 232 students using MOODLE.
- **Control Group**: 215 students using traditional methods.

Description of the educational platform

The MOODLE educational platform is a modular, object oriented learning environment that provides
teachers and students with convenient and diverse e-learning tools in online and offline formats that can
be used both in the classroom and for self-study at home. This platform has the full range of functions
that are necessary to ensure comfortable and high-quality learning.

Data Collection Methods

Data was collected through various assessment tools:

- Measurement of achievement motivation.
- Utilization of T. I. Ilyina’s method for studying university motivation.
- Evaluation of academic performance through tests administered at both the beginning and end of the
study.

5. Results

Key Findings
The results indicated that students who engaged with the MOODLE platform exhibited significantly
higher levels of intrinsic motivation compared to their peers in the control group.
Additionally, academic performance improved notably among those using e-learning tools.

Comparison Between Groups

The analysis showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in terms of both
motivation levels and test scores, confirming the effectiveness of e-learning platforms in enhancing
educational outcomes.

6. Discussion
Interpretation of Results
The findings suggest that integrating e-learning platforms can address challenges such as low student
engagement in ideological education. The increased interactivity and accessibility provided by digital
tools contribute to higher motivation levels among students.

Implications for Educational Practice

The research underscores the importance of incorporating digital tools into teaching methodologies to
create engaging learning environments that foster student success.

7. Conclusion
The study confirms that e-learning platforms like MOODLE significantly enhance student motivation and
academic performance in ideological education. This finding emphasizes the need for educational
institutions to adopt digital technologies to improve teaching effectiveness.
This detailed report provides an extensive overview of Huabing Yang's research on e-learning platforms
in ideological education, emphasizing its significance within modern educational practices and its
implications for future teaching methodologies. Each section is designed to cover key aspects thoroughly
while providing insights into the research process and findings, suitable for submission as a
comprehensive analysis
