1. Using Fermi-Dirac probability distribution function, derive an expression for the
position of Fermi energy level in the intrinsic semiconductor.

3. Explain Hall Effect. Derive the equation of Hall voltage and Hall coefficient.

1. What are Nanoparticles? Explain why the properties of nanoparticles are different
than that of bulk materials on the basis of quantum confinement and surface to
volume ratio.
2. Explain electrical, optical, mechanical and magnetic properties of nanoparticles.
3. Explain how ball milling and PVD method is used to synthesize nanoparticles.
4. Explain how GMR effect is used in storing or reading the data on HDD.
5. Explain Meissner effect and its cause. Show that superconductors exhibit perfect
diamagnetism.
6. Differentiate between type I and type II superconductors.
7. What are SQUIDs? Explain principle, construction and working of SQUID.
8. Define Josephson Effect. Explain DC and AC Josephson effect in brief.
