1. Different types of footing and usage
 Isolated Footings: These are individual footings that support a single
column. They are commonly used for small to medium-sized structures.

 Combined Footings: Designed

to support two or more columns,
often used when columns are
closely spaced or near property lines.
 Wall Footings: Continuous footings that support walls, distributing the
load along the wall's length.

 Strip Footings: Long,

narrow footings that
support walls or rows of columns.

 Spread Footings: A
general term encompassing
various types of footings that
spread the load over a wider area of soil. This includes isolated,
combined, and wall footings.

 Raft or Mat Foundations: A

large, thick concrete slab that
covers the entire area of a
structure. Used when soil
conditions are poor or when a large number of columns are present.
 Stepped Footings: Used on sloping ground, where the footing is
stepped down in layers to maintain a level foundation.

 Cantilever or Strap Footings:

Used when a column is located
close to a property line. A
cantilever portion extends
beyond the column to distribute
the load away from the boundary.

 Pile Foundations:
Utilize piles (long, slender
members) driven into the
ground to transfer loads to
deeper, stronger soil layers.

 Pile Footings: Combine piles with a

concrete footing to support
heavy loads or distribute them over a
larger area.

 Concrete Footings: The

most common type of
footing, constructed from
reinforced concrete to
provide strength and
durability.
