Ans. ‘Failure is the key to success’ embodies the idea that setbacks and challenges are essential
components of achieving greatness. When we fail, we’re presented with an opportunity to learn,
adapt, and grow. Each failure provides valuable lesson that can guide us toward success in the future.
It’s through overcoming obstacles and persevering through tough times that we develop resilience,
determination, and the skills necessary to reach our goals. Without experiencing failure, we might

B2. View-Counterview:
Write your counterview in a paragraph on the topic:
‘E-books are better than real books’.
Below are the views on the above topic. you may refer to the following viewpoints to write your
counterviews.
Viewpoints :
. It is available at much lower prices.
. It can be accessed through mobile phones and laptops comfortably even while traveling
. Users can carry hundreds of books anywhere they go.
. E-books are equipped with interactive elements for better reading experience. These contains
audio, video and animations which are ideal for children.
. E-book publishing is very easy, fast and less time consuming.
Ans.
E-books are better than real books
Counterview : I strongly uphold the view that E-books are better than real books. Because E-books lead
the users to have access to the internet & therefore millions of distraction are just a click away. Reading
real books helps increase memory retention and focus. Real books undergo multiple revisions before
getting published which makes it flawless. Whereas E-books can be uploaded by anyone an the internet
which leads to the dissemination of misinformation. E-books on screens can cause eyestrain and disrupt
sleep cycles while Real books are much more relaxing for eyes and mind. These books don’t require
power and can be recycled also. Real books also allows the readers to highlight, take margin notes and
visually flip through pages already read to refresh comprehension. Real books make better readers as we
are least distracted. Children can have a good collection of books and can also create a library of their
own and with pride can exhibit it too. Real book hold an unparalleled allure, offering a tactile and sensory
richness which is absent in e-books. These books are truly owned which can be shared, resold and passed
on giving them longevity and a value. The rustle of pages, the earthy scent of paper and the absence of a
digital glare creates a more immersive reading atmosphere.

in their hut at the base camp. They informed us that he had hurt his foot and was not able to keep pace with
the group and was left behind lost alone. Instead of going up Karan had started moving down to base camp
but lost his grip and slipped off. Luckily a shepherd had seen him and he was rescued. We all instantly
started our journey back to the base camp. We later went to the village and were so relaxed and elated to
see Karan safe.
We worked through the topic by breaking down the concept of clauses into simpler, more manageable parts.
Arun provided clear explanations and examples that illuminated the confusing aspects of the topic. We
spent hours discussing various clause structures, practicing exercises and reviewing our understanding. His
patience and guidance transformed my frustration into a clearer comprehension of how clauses function
within sentences.
In the end, not only did I gain a stronger grasp of English grammar, but our collaborative effort also

impact a supportive friend can have on academic growth. Thus, my friend helped me in my academic
development.

Dear Rohini,
I am wishing you a very happy Holi in advance. I pray to god that the festival of colors, Holi fills
your life with colors of happiness. Yesterday I came across an advertisement. The advertisement
advised making Holi 'Safe'. I thought their observations and suggestions were very valid, so I thought
I would share the message with you.
During Holi, one thing we should avoid throwing water or rubber balloons containing water passers-
by - children enjoy doing this but little do they realize how much harm they cause to themselves and
to others. We should also refrain from forcing people who are unwilling to play Holi to join in the
festivities. Also in many places instead of colours, people use dirt and even chemicals instead of
natural colours.
You know that the youth get drunk in certain places and indulge in indecent language or riotous
behaviour. They even use Holi for eve-teasing and driven and driving. The police have urged people
not to submit in or tolerate such behaviour.
I hope you and your friends will avoid such a thing in your place and really make this an enjoyable
and "colourful" Holi.
Your loving friend,
Raj Malhotra.

The Editor,
The times of India,

Respected sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I want to ventilate a serious problem about the addiction of
online games among teenagers. In recent years, the addiction to online games has become a significant
people among teenagers, and it is having a detrimental effect on their physical and mental health.
Online games are incredibly addictive, and teenagers are spending an increasing amount of time playing
them. This addiction is not only affecting their academic performance but also their social skills and
physical health. Many teenagers are spending hours sitting in from of their screens, which is leading to an
increase in sedentary behavior and a decrease in physical activity. Moreover, excessive use of online games
is also having a negative impact on the mental health of teenagers. Many of these games are violent and
have a negative effect on the emotional well-being of teenagers. They can cause anxiety, depression, and
aggressive behavior.
I urge the concerned authorities to take immediate action to address this issue and create a healthy
environment for teenagers to grow and develop. It is also essential for the government to regulate the online
gaming industry and ensure that age-appropriate content is provided to teenagers. I shall be highly obliged
if you kindly publish this matter to draw the attention of the concerned authority.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Mohan Verma.

Dear Arnav,
My first advice is not to make yourself completely stop playing online games. Just cut down the number of
hours and set a time boundary like no ipads after 8pm. Explain yourself the consequence of breaking the
rules, like if you continue to play after 8pm, you will cut an hour of gaming privilege for the next day. Insist
yourself to complete your homework first on time and to divert yourself, help your parents with household
chores. Create family time. Make it a habit to watch healthy programs in television along with your family.
You must read inspiring and life motivating stories. Learn to play chess and other board games physically
instead of online. Start playing outdoor games, go for cycling, have intellectual talks with your friends. This
will help you in proper mental and physical development.
I hope you will keep these advices intact. I wish to see you as an active kid having fun with family and
friends and not tied up with technology. Convey my regards to your family.

best use of time and other resources at their disposal, thus paving the way ahead smoothly.
Respected sir/Ma’am,
I, the undersigned, by means of this letter, wish to draw your attention to the growing achievements
of young girls globally, particularly in our own nation.
It would be an ideal and generous gesture on the part of all Rotarians to felicitate these young
achievers and thus show them not only our recognition of their work but also our support and
encouragement.
May I suggest that, together with your team, you organize a programme at which these young girls
can be given a token of appreciation and recognition for their work.
I am confident that you will be able to put up an enjoyable programme that will remain evergreen
in their memories.
Thanking you,

Dear Sanjay,
Women, as we are all well aware, have not been treated with the due respect that they deserve and
have been considered inferior to their male counterparts, particularly here in our nation where they
are often scorned and abused.
It is very essential for each one of us to understand primarily that we owe our existence to them.
Women are God's creation much as men are and are collaborators in His plan of expanding the
human race. But it has been over the ages that man, authoritatively made women submissive and
have denied them their rightful place in society. Women are as gifted and talented as men are and
can go about multi tasking in their various roles as daughters, mothers, sisters, wives, friends,
colleagues, etc. They must be treated with dignity and should be empowered so that they occupy a
place of pride and prominence in our society.
Further, respect, gratitude and encouragement in all forms must be given to them at all times
especially the younger generation of girls who need to establish their identities and carve a niche
for themselves. Hence, let us all resolve to treat women on par with men and thus show our
solidarity and support towards them.
Do let me know your views on the same. I look forward to an early reply.

Ans. Giving is Receiving
Good morning, Respected principal, Teachers and My Dear Friends. I am indeed privileged, this
morning, to share my views on Giving is Receiving.
At the outset, let me state that if you are blessed with the means to live a reasonably comfortable
life, you have the ability to give. When you give to the less fortunate, you add to their lives - and
by adding to theirs, you add to yours too. Perpetuating the cycle of giving makes the world a better,
more humane place to live in. You may be giving for a reason which makes you feel good about
yourself. Giving makes you happy. Seeing the smiles, gratitude and expressions of hope on the
faces of those you are kind to makes the act of giving worthwhile. Even research suggests that
giving leads to greater happiness for the giver. No matter how much or how little you can give,
you have the power to touch the life of another person and you can affect them in ways you may
never completely be aware of. There's so much that you can give. You can give your time, your
warmth and friendship, a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on and, of course, you can give
materially.
The panel considered the findings of various surveys which revealed that the use of digital
technology in the teaching-learning process would be highly beneficial to students as they would
gain access to a wider range of information. This will broaden their thinking and ultimately raise
their intellectual level.
On the appointed day, he woke up early, though the concert was at 4 p.m. He groomed himself to
the best, putting on fine clothes and well-polished shoes. He hoped to shoot pictures with Miss
Poornima. The venue was a thirty-minute drive from his residence. Yet, he set out at 2 p.m. After
driving a few kilometres, he turned onto the highway which led straight to the venue. Being
overexcited, he began humming one of his favourite songs and lost focus on driving. Suddenly he
lost control of himself and rammed into a parked jeep. He was badly injured and rushed to a nearby
hospital.

A DAY TO REMEMBER
I had never been as excited as I was that day it was the first day of school after the prolonged
'Covid' break. I happily woke up and got ready for a school reunion of sorts. My mother was
pleasantly shocked to see me in my school uniform and my school satchel neatly packed. But,
over-excitement got the better of me and I forgot to wear my mask when leaving home.
I hopped into an auto and set out for school. It was only when a traffic policeman emerged out of
nowhere that I realised the blunder I had committed. He wouldn't listen to my pleas for pardon and
demanded that I pay the fine. There I was, listening to how irresponsible I was being by not wearing
my mask (it was true, of course). And when I told him that I was not carrying as much amount, he
had me accompany him to the police station. The icing on the cake was that we bumped into our
neighbour who not just rebuked me there but also went home and narrated the entire story to my
mother. And hence I decided to never leave the house without my mask.

A5. As a monitor of your class, how would you boost the moral of your classmates to participate in
various school competitions? [2]
Ans. As a monitor of my class, I would make it a point to be fair in my dealings with others. I would be a
good listener and stand for truth. This would be my first step in order to win over my classmates.
Then I would personally talk to each of my classmate and make a list of their talents. This would
help me to convince the teachers to promote right talents at various competitions and see that each
student is represented in some way or the other. I would tell my class that it is 'We' feeling and not
the 'I' that is important in any competition. I would help them realize that success is a united effort.

(Frame 'Wh' question to get underlined part as an answer.)
Ans. How is Hemingway's language?
B5. Do you think one should have a role model to look upto? Justify your response. [2]
Ans. In life one should have a role model to look upto. Our life is full of ups and downs. There are sunny
days and also gloomy days. It is easy to journey through life when things are going well with us. The
question comes when we meet with tragedy, calamity or failure. We need someone to look upto
who have gone through similar situation and risen above the situation. The way the person handle
the terrible situation, his/her optimism, strategy and never do or die spirit boost our morale. For
example the lives of Helen Keller, Abdul Kalam, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr Martin Luther
King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi add new vigour to our life.
(B) Read the given poem and write an appreciation of it with the help of the given points in a
paragraph format. [5]
Points:
• The title and the poet of the poem [1]
• Rhyme scheme [1]
• Figure of speech [1]
• Central Idea/Theme [2]
Ans. The title of the poem is 'The Pulley'. The poem is written by George Herbert. The poem comprises
of four stanzas. The rhyme scheme used in the poem is 'ababa'. The poem is beautified with
figures of like Alliteration, Antithesis, Pun, Inversion, and Repetition. The chief figure of speech is
Metaphor. For example, the glass of blessings signifies the sum of human qualities bestowed on
men by God.
The central idea of the poem is the reason for man's continual restlessness all his life. According
to the poet, God who bestowed all good qualities on man withheld the quality of 'rest' from him,
so that man's thoughts would ultimately turn towards God. The Creator expects man to be drawn
towards him. "The Pulley" shows how God lifts man towards Himself with the pulley of
restlessness.

Dear Tara,
It's been a long time since I penned down few lines for you. The pandemic has tied us to our homes
and restricted our movements. I plan to visit you this Diwali vacation. You are my best friend and so
I feel free to write about improving your handwriting.
You are a brilliant student and have always done well in your studies and other activities. The toughest
subjects like Mathematics and Science are like a piece of cake to you. But you always run short of
few marks in topping the class. The reason of not excelling is your poor handwriting. Handwriting
activates the brain for it involves motor and cognitive skills. A good legible handwriting makes
reading easy and also attracts the mind. We are told to work on our handwriting by our teachers
because it has a positive impact on our grade and success. Imagine the blunder we create when letters
like i, e, s, r, y, z are all written alike. The poor examiners go through a tough time even though our
answer may be correct. Language paper suffers the most because of poor handwriting. You may know
the spelling of the longest word in the world but your illegible handwriting gets you a big zero. You
are now in grade ten. See that you set aside an hour to improve your handwriting. I am sure you will
excel in the board exam and emerge victorious as a topper of the State.
I hope you take my words seriously and work on this weakness of yours. I am ever willing to help
you in this matter. Do convey my love to your parents. Wishing you the very best for this academic
year.
Yours loving,
Jaya

sports in our building sportspersons. However, many are not getting the opportunity to indulge in sports

with it, such as mental, social, emotional, physical and educational development.
I, now firmly believe that along with studies, sports should be given equal importance in a child’s

I am now convinced with the concept that sports is a good medium to promote and in calculate important

ssing the poet’s view of feeling more at home with the animals than with human beings. Acco-
rding to him, human beings are complicated whereas animals are more placid and self-cont-
ained. The poet does not make use of any rhyme scheme and as such the poet is devoid of
rhythm. However, the poet makes use of choicest words such as ‘evince’, ‘demented’, ‘placid’
to drive home his point. The employment of figures of speech such as Litotes, Onomatopoeia,
Metaphor, Repetition, etc serve to enhance the effect of the poem.
The theme centres around the idea that humans have forgotten their true nature and have
turned avaricious, restless and sinful. He maintains that the animals are free from all types of

Dear Anil,
It has been quite some time now that we have not had a conversation at length, I am writing this letter
to you – to share my views about preventing the spread of deadly dengue.
You may be aware that dengue is basically caused due to infection from a particular breed of
mosquitoes. These mosquitoes are generally found in dirty stagnant water in places such as potholes,
uncovered water tanks, rubber tyres and other such material into which water has collected. When a
person gets infected with dengue, the platelets in the blood begin to drop drastically and this results
in the death. This, of course, can be avoided if proper care is taken and hygiene is maintained.
It is, therefore, advisable to keep all areas dry – especially if you have potted plants in and around
your home. One should also disinfect one’s area at periodic intervals. Hope all are well at home.
Convey my regards to them.

Read the following diagram and transform it into a paragraph:
Good morning, Respected principal, Teachers and My Dear Friends. I am, indeed,
privileged, today, to share my views on the occasion of 'Environment Day' on the ban
of the single use of plastic.
It is common knowledge that the use of plastic is harmful and hazardous to the environ-
ment and consequently to our health too as plastic is non-biodegradable and hence its
disposal is one of the greatest challenges. Plastic is not only causing land pollution but
it is also affecting all our water bodies and hence making our water resources scarce
and harmful. Research has also proved the increase in the number of deaths of animals
and marine creatures owing to the consumption of plastic. The drainage chambers and
sewage channels get blocked due to plastic.
Although the Indian government has imposed a ban on the usage of plastic bags in many
states, it is time when we must contribute our bit to make this ban a success. Thus, we,
the educated lot of society must take it as our responsibility to stop using plastic bags.
In this way, we can support the government in this campaign. We must not only create
and spread awareness about the ban on plastic but also make efforts to find other
suitable alternatives that can be used to replace plastic. Now everyone has to completely
stop using plastic and thus save our environment and earth.

Prepare a paragraph of counterviews on the given topic.
View:

Ans.
Life of a bird is better than that of a human being
Counterview: I resolutely disagree with the view that the life of a bird is better than that of a
human being. Arguably, the life of bird is free from needless tensions and control, but its life
is not as fulfilling and exhilarating as that of a human being for one simple reason that a human
being has been endowed with the gift of a brain with which he can think and act and move
forward in life unlike a bird. Owing to parental control over a human being, he or she can
cultivate himself or herself into responsible, rational and mature individual and then make a
noteworthy contribution to Society at large. Human beings have the obligatory pressure of
completing their education but then that is their pathway to success, achievement and a better
life. Hence, for all these reasons, I firmly advocate the view that the life of a bird is not so good
as that of a human being.
Many great personalities of history like Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak, Shivaji
Maharaj, Hitler etc. have put into practice what their conscience told them to do. They
acted according to their beliefs. They did not contemplate too much on how to reach
their set goals. Precious time must be converted into moments of action for real success
in life. Idle talk can lead one nowhere. On the contrary, life should be moulded on the
firm basis of action.
It must be secondary to the practical aspects of life. In today’s dynamic world, success
and happiness depend on action, not on theory or empty words. People believe in results
not on plans. Many a times we have lots of plans, but the firm will and determination
require to execute these plans and develop, the desired results, needs actions. Believe
in Action they certainly speak louder than mere words.

When she returned after about fifteen minutes, she discovered our misdeed and asked
us to own up. None of us was willing to do so as we were mortally afraid of the cons-

same issue.
In very kind words, the Principal assured us that our silence would magnify the punis-

(B) Read the following poem and write an appreciation of it with the help of the given points in
a paragraph format: 10
The title of the poem Figure of speech
The poet Special features
Central idea/theme Favourite line/lines
Rhyme scheme Why I like/don’t like the poem
Ans. Title of the poem is ‘The Pulley.’
The poet is George Herbert.
The poem’s central idea or theme focus on the reason for the man’s continuous restlessness in his
life. According to the poet, God has made sure that the man will suffer hard so that their thoughts
would ultimately return to his creator, God. There are five lines in every verse of the poem.
The rhyme scheme for the poem is a - b - a - b - a.
Metaphor is the key figure of speech used in the poem. ‘Glass of blessings’ is a term used to depict
the total of all human qualities bestowed on a man, while the quality of “rest” or “contentment” is
compared with that of a “jewel.”
In the meantime, the poem comes with a message. The message is that however rich or whatever
abundance of qualities we may have, we must always believe in our God and thank him for the
blessings that he has bestowed upon us.
My favourite line from the poem is “If goodness lead him not, yet weariness.
May toss him to my breast.” Here, if talks of the fickle nature of man. It says that if goodness and
luxury do not lead a man to God, then man will be reminded of God in difficulties for sure. A tired
and weary man is most likely to believe more in God than someone living in luxury, who has not
undergone much trouble.
I like this poem very much as it teaches us not to be self - satisfied and content but to believe in
God, thank God and to always remember him for all the kindness and blessings that he has
showered upon us.

Subject: Request for enrolling my name in the Blood Donation Camp
Respected Sir,
I, Mr. Dipesh Shastri, aged 18 years, am writing to you to enrol my name for the upcoming Blood
Donation Camp organised by your institution on 5th March at F. C. Road, Pune.
As a responsible citizen, I understand that donating blood is equivalent to saving lives, as there is
always a higher requirement of blood than is available in blood banks to meet medical
emergencies. Donating blood is a humane gesture that can bring smiles not just to the patients but
also to their kith and kin. I believe that every drop counts in this regard.
Since I live in a residential locality on J. M. Road, quite close to Fergusson College, I shall be
there at 11 a.m. for blood donation at the intimated venue. I would like to thank you for your noble
cause of setting up the camp.
Yours faithfully,
Dipesh Shastri

Dear Manish,
I hope this letter finds you in a relaxed mood after the completion of your board exams. I know
that you will pass with flying colours and wish you the best for the results.
I saw an advertisement in the newspaper about a blood donation camp organised by the Lion’s
Club of Pune. The camp is on 5th March, this Tuesday, at Fergusson College Campus from 10 a.m.
to 6 p.m. I remember from one of our conversations that you have AB Negative blood type that
happens to be the rarest of all blood types in our country, meaning that blood banks must obviously
be short on this blood type. This fact further increases the value to your contribution to the patients
or accident victims in urgent need of blood. So, I strongly urge you to volunteer for this camp.
I have decided to go there at 11 a.m. Let me know whether you plan to accompany me. We can
even go and watch a movie after the camp. I shall await your response.
Yours lovingly,
Dipesh

Respected Sir,
I, Kalpana Shah, reside in Nanded. I am writing to you to request that you print an article in your
newspaper about the importance of road safety.
Yesterday, on my way to work, I saw that a small boy was run over by a car near St. Lawrence
High School, Nanded. It was horrifying to see that the driver of the car didn’t even stop to check
whom he/she had injured. Despite the spread-breakers on either side of the school gate, a lot of
people speed through the lane. This endangers the lives of the children who walk to and from
school. I would, therefore, like to request you to print an article in your newspaper, highlighting
the importance of road safety, warning reckless drivers to be cautious and guiding pedestrians on
how to ensure their safety.
I truly hope that you will take this serious matter inti consideration and do the needful.

On my way to work, I witnessed a hit-and-run accident near St. Lawrence High School, Nanded
where a small boy was severely injured. It was more horrifying to see that none of the people that
were standing around knew what to do. Finally, a taxi driver carried the boy to hospital nearby.
I’ve heard that the boy will make it. I was shocked to see the uncompassionate nature of the
bystanders. It was appalling to see how the people failed to provide necessary help to the little
boy. With the ever-increasing traffic, I hope the authorities take some action to ensure the safety
of pedestrians.
Mom, with accidents on the rise all over the country, I would like you and Dad to take extra care
of yourselves while walking on the road. Take care.

Reason for the Low Performance of Students in exams
There are a lot of reason for the low performance of students in exams. The first reason is
that the students lack proper study habits, for example, not preparing a schedule for
themselves. They even spend a lot of time watching films and TV. There is often is often
lack of motivation from their inner self as well as from their elders. Sometimes, the lack of
a proper environment for studies also makes the students under-perform. It was also been
observed that students set low aims for themselves, which means that they are contents with
receiving low grades and don’t aim to better themselves. A lot of students fall into bad
company and give up on their making them spend a large chunk of their time playing games
online.

A Pleasure of Watching Television
Some people claim that television is the root of all evils, while others think of television
as a best friend. Some blame the television for society’s violence, consumerism, and
misinformation, while others see it as a rich resource for education and global
understanding. According to me watching television benefits a number of ways. It helps in
increasing bonding with family when we watch it together. It keeps us updated with news.
The television shows, music, video-songs, live matches, etc. are sources of our
entertainment. We can learn to make a dish or two by watching cooking episodes. Tele
shopping helps in getting deals at lower price. We can follow latest trend by watching
television. We can also learn how to manage time in our life by watching number of things
on TV. We gain so much knowledge from channels like Discovery, National Geo, science
channels etc.
Children can learn moral lessons in a fun way by watching special episodes meant for
children. It also helps to keep us fit and healthy as we can watch some programmes based
on fitness and we can also get some fitness tips from it. We can build our character by
watching spiritual shows. We become aware of the present socio-economic condition of our
country and of our world. Television also helps us develop our languages especially English
language by watching news items and any other English programmes. So it is not good to
say it an idiot box whereas it is a box full of knowledge, entertainment and information. So
we should watch it whenever we get time and we should not be an addict of it.

Q.3 (B) Appreciation of the poem - Where the Mind is Without Fear. [10]
'Where the Mind is Without Fear' is a thought-provoking poem written by Nobel Laureate
Rabindranath Tagorea an Indian Writer, Poet and Philosopher. It is a prayer to God in which
Tagore addresses God as "My Father" and asks Him to awake his country into a heaven of
freedom, where there is a total freedom of good thoughts, good words and good actions. He
wishes for a country where people should be free from fears, where knowledge would be free to
all individuals and people from all castes and religions should be united. The poem is written in
free verse without any rhyme scheme or metre throughout the poem. Figures of speech like
Repetition. Metaphor and Personification are used to give more poetic effects. "where tireless
striving stretches its arms towards perfection" - Here the poet personified 'tireless striving'
stretching its arms to reach its goal.
The special feature of this poem is the emotion it conveys and the strong feelings of the poet for
the progress of the country. It is an extremely patriotic poem written in the form of a prayer. It
is a poem of hope. The poet uses many metaphors to elaborate the evils existent in the country.
It is the full of positive and negative imagery. My favourtie line is : 'Where the mind is without
fear and the head is held high'. I like this line because there is a very positive emotion in this line,
showing fearlessness, dignity and self-respect. I like this poem because it displays Tagore's
metaphoric sketch, the disparity between the present time and place and a future where people
are truly free. It is simple, deeply sensitive, poem which carries a universal appeal of peace and
harmony.

and even natural cycles such as climate and nutrients are provided by nature. It is always a part of our
lives. It provides us gifts in terms of beauty, art and spirituality. So we should protect it. [2]

Q.3 (B) Appreciation of the poem - A Thing of Beauty is a Joy For Ever. [10]
‘A Thing of Beauty is a Joy For Ever’ is a beautiful poem with a beautiful message
written by John Keats. This poem is an excellent example of true poetry. The poet feels that the
presence of beautiful things in our life is a source of perennial joy for us. The joy they give us
keeps increasing. It always remains in our hearts and will never leaves us. Beautiful things
inspire and motivate us to live through the sorrows, sadness, and loneliness of life. The poet
has used aa, bb, cc, dd, ee ……… rhyming scheme to give more poetic effect in the poem. The
opening line that begins the poem, A thing of beauty is a joy for ever : Its loveliness increases;
is my favourite line as the line implies that, as we know that our lives are full of tests and trials
and we often find ourselves in the midst of despair, nevertheless, beautiful objects can help us
forget our disappointments, hatred and despair.
The poet has used metaphor, alliteration and imagery to increase the beauty of the poem.
Flowery bands, shady boon, daffodils in green world, clear rills, cooling covert, grandeur of
dooms, endless fountain of eternal drink – where imagery is used. The poem is taken from the
poem titled – Endymion – a poetic romance. The poem gives a positive message like beautiful
things gives us with pleasant dreams, sound sleep, peaceful and healthful breathing. Hence,
beauty cannot lead to inertia, but to a continuous battle to protect our earth and nature. The
beauty has an ability to transform life. I like this poem because the poem conveys the optimistic
message that the beautiful things in our life keeps us hopeful and optimistic. Though there is
lack of noble souls around us, we still continue to live optimistically for better days ahead.
