Narrator: Since time immemorial, ambition has been part of human nature.

It began with our ancestors seeking warmth

during the cold and rejoicing when they discovered fire, and it extends to us, who once dreamt of landing on the moon in
1969 and continuously paved towards advancement of technology.
Ambitions - as future professionals, establishing a strong and impactful career in the long-run is a journey that requires
resilience, continuous learning, and commitment to growth. With each step, we move closer to our dreams, shaping our
professional paths.
Today, we present to you, The Elevator.
Three applicants, each with their own ambitions, led themselves toward the elevator of Maalindog Audit firm. On the 5th
floor, the doors opened, and the first applicant, Nicholas, stepped out.
SCENE 1: INITIAL INTERVIEW (ppt: DON’TS)
papasok si nichos na ang suot ay formal pero magulo hair at di maayos necktie tas may bitbit pang helmet ng motor tas
nagmamadali (ppt: unprofessional appearance)
Nichos: Oh my God! I am late for my job interview! (ppt: arriving late)
(Maglalakad papunta kay khailyn)
Khailyn: Good afternoon Mr. Nicholas. I am Ms. Khailyn Ravanzo, the HR Representative who will be interviewing you
today. It seems like you are 15 minutes late.
Nichos: Good afternoon, Ms. Khailyn. I am sorry for arriving late. I was stuck in the traffic (iaabot yung resume) (titingin
sa picture ni nichos sa resume then kay nichos) (ppt: inappropriate photo used in the resume)
Khailyn: Please have a seat. So, you are applying for the position of External Audit Staff. Since this is your initial
interview, I would like to know about you. Please tell me something about yourself.
Nichos: Yeah, sure. I am Nicholas Atienza, CPA. When it comes to my auditing background, I did some auditing stuff in
my previous company, though it was a mess and a nightmare working for them, especially with the management, I still
stuck around . (ppt: being too casual and using inappropriate language) & (speaking negatively about the previous
employer) With that, I would say I have strong knowledge in external auditing due to my rigorous work in my previous
company.
Khailyn: We understand your situation and we appreciate your honesty. In relation to the rigorous work you’ve
mentioned, what do you believe you can bring to the audit team?
Nichos: (mayabang ang dating) Honestly, after dealing with all that in my last job, I can say that I have become pretty
much immune to the stress that comes with audit season. You name the issue, I have already seen it. Last-minute
changes, incompetent management, working under pressure - I’m not fazed by any of that. What I bring to the table is the
ability to get the job done under pressure. (ppt: being too familiar)
Khai: Thanks for sharing that. It’s great to hear that you have developed the ability to stay calm under pressure. With that,
could you please share more about your strengths and, if possible, also touch on any areas where you feel there’s room
for improvement?
Nichos: Well, you can see it all on my resume and I rather not talk about my weaknesses.
(ppt: being dismissive)
Khai: If that’s the case then do you have… (magpphone si nichos) Mr. Nicholas, are you still with me? (ppt: being
inattentive)
Nichos: Yes… I am listening… (biglang magrring ang phone) I’m so sorry but my son sent me a text message (ppt:
interrupting the interview and the interviewer)
Khai: Hmmm, okay. So going back, do you have any questions?
Nichos: Ma’am, honestly, I do not have any questions, especially regarding my salary. I firmly believe that your company
will provide a salary that aligns to my expertise and experience. (ppt: being too confident)
Khai: That’s it, thank you for taking the time to meet with me today. We’ll call you back soon to let you know the outcome
of this interview.
Nichos: No problem! Please contact me on my number or even on Gmail account (ituturo sa resume) which is
[email protected]. Thank you! (the use of an unprofessional email address on the resume)
SCENE 2: IMMEDIATE / SECOND INTERVIEW
Narrator: That concludes the interview of Nicholas. Have you heard the last statement of the interviewer? Call you back
soon. Does that really happen? Do they really call you back? In some cases, yes. That’s why Amanda has now stepped
on the Elevator towards the 10th floor for her second interview since she was called back.
(ifflash sa screen ang elevetor na may number 10)
(ppt: DO’S)
Papasok si amanda, ang suot ay proper attire (ppt: dress appropriately) (ppt: arrive on time)
Amanda: Good afternoon.
Aly: Please have a seat. Good afternoon and thank you for joining us today. I’m Alyza Masicampo, the HR Manager and
along with me is Patricia Villarivera.
Pat: I am Patricia, the Audit Department Supervisor. Based on your resume and your previous interview, I would like to
commend you on that. So in relation to your experience as Junior Auditor, kindly describe a situation where you
discovered a discrepancy or issue during an audit.
(ppt: STAR Method - Situation, Task, Action, Result)
Amanda: During an audit of accounts payable, I noticed discrepancies between recorded expenses and actual payments.
I reviewed transaction records and compared invoices with payment histories to identify the cause. I discovered a data
entry error, which was corrected, and recommended the proper adjusting journal entry. As a result, the error was
resolved, and the correct amount was recorded. (ppt: portraying good nonverbal cues)
Aly: Thank you for that; my question for you, if you were hired as an Audit Associate, what would be your plan for the first
30 days of the work?
Amanda: In the first 30 days, I would focus on adapting with the company’s culture, policies, and audit processes. The
company’s core values include the three I which stand for: Integrity, Innovation, and Inclusivity. (ppt: know the company) I
align myself with these values by maintaining high ethical standards, embracing innovative approaches, and contributing
to an inclusive, collaborative team environment. (ppt: align yourself with company values and culture)
Pat: I think we have covered everything from our side. Do you have any questions?
Amanda: (ppt: listen and respond accordingly)
Thank you for giving me a chance to ask a question. I’m interested in this role and feel like I would be a great fit. Would
you be able to share the expected salary range for this role? (ppt: ask insightful questions and be respectful)
Aly: Thank you for asking Ms. Amanda. For this position, we typically offer a salary range between P28,000 to P35,000,
with the final amount depending on factors like experience, skills, and qualifications.
Amanda: That is noted, ma’am. Thank you.
Pat: Nice meeting you as well and thank you.
(Shake hands)
Narrator: After Amanda’s interview, have you noticed them shaking hands? In some cases, a hand shake signifies
closing a deal, and that is Ayla’s goal for today as she hopped on the elevator towards the 15th floor for her final interview.

SCENE 3: (ppt: DO’S)

Mikie: Please have a seat. Good afternoon Ms. Ayla and I would like to congratulate you as this is your final interview! I
am Mikie Cutamora, the Audit Department Head, responsible for overseeing audit engagements of Maalindog Audit Firm.
Ayla: Good afternoon and thank you very much, Ms. Cutamora. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity.
Mikie: (smile lang sa kanya) So, you are applying as an Audit Manager who plays a key role in supervising the accuracy
and integrity of our operations. Ms. Ayla, what's an accomplishment that you’re particularly proud of that isn’t on your
resume?
Ayla: One accomplishment I’m particularly proud of is when I improved the financial reporting process by identifying
inefficiencies in expense report submissions, collaborating with the finance team to redesign the workflow, and reducing
errors by 80%. (ppt: Make a good first impression) & (ppt: showcase problem-solving skills)
Mikie: Well, that is great to hear! Moving forward, kindly describe a complex audit project you’ve done and how you
ensured the accuracy and integrity of the final audit results.
Ayla: I led an audit for a multinational company with 10 regional offices. Using Audit Command Language (ACL) software,
I identified 5% of transactions with discrepancies. After reviewing 200 records and standardizing procedures, I improved
reporting accuracy and compliance by 50%. (ppt: sell your expertise)
Mikie: For the last question, this is based on the report of HR, you mentioned that you prefer working with a group rather
than as an individual as you value team harmony and collaboration. But as a manager, sometimes you have to decide on
your own which is crucial for your team and the company. Tell me a time when you have handled this kind of situation.
Ayla: I once faced a situation where the team had differing opinions on the best audit approach for a client. After taking all
their points into consideration, I decided on a conservative audit approach to ensure regulatory compliance, communicate
it to the team, completed the audit on time, maintaining accuracy and client trust. (ppt: addressing questions
straightforwardly and assertively)
Mikie: That’s it for your final interview. You have made a strong impression, Ms. Ayla and we believe you’ll be a great fit
for our team. Congratulations, you are now our newly hired Audit Manager. We are looking forward to working with you.
(handshake)
Ayla: Thank you so much, ma’am! Thank you for your trust and for this opportunity.
Conclusion: The Elevator serves as a powerful metaphor for the journey in the corporate world, where each step
represents growth, ambition, and the pursuit of something greater. Just as the applicants aimed for higher floors, in our
careers and lives, we strive to achieve bigger goals and elevate our personal and professional brands. Every step we
take, whether it’s acquiring experience, enhancing our skills, or building a strong personal brand, drives us to the next
level. Everyone’s journey may begin at a different stage, but by consistently moving forward, we set ourselves on a path
toward success and personal fulfilment. This story reminds us that every journey begins with a single step, and with
determination, we can all reach new heights.

Once again, the Elevator….
