Class Xii Home Test - 3

The document is a test paper consisting of two sections, with Section A containing six mathematical problems related to linear programming, calculus, differential equations, integration, and probability distributions. Section B includes three case studies focusing on optimization of a visiting card area, probability calculations for flower seed germination, and vector analysis in astronomy. Each problem requires analytical skills and application of mathematical concepts to find solutions.

HOME TEST-3

SECTION-A 6 x 3= 18
1. Solve the following LPP graphically: Maximize Z = 60x + 40y.
Subject to , , , x, y
2. Evaluate: ∫ ( )( )
(OR) Find: ∫ √
3. Find the general solution of the differential equation: (x2 + 1) + 2xy =√ (OR)
Find the particular solution of the differential solution ( ) given y = 1, when x = 1.
4. Find the area of the region bounded by the lines x – 2y = 4, x = – 1, x = 6 and x – axis using
integration.
5. Differentiate the following function with respect to x. y = ( ) √
6. Two balls are drawn at random one by one with replacement from an urn containing equal
number of red balls and green balls. Find the probability distribution of number of red balls. Also
find the mean of the random variable. (OR)
The random variable X has the following probability distribution where a and b are some constants.

X 1 2 3 4 5
P(x) 0.2 a a 0.2 b

SECTION-B 3 x 4= 12
7. CASE STUDY I :
A rectangular visiting card is to contain 24 sq.cm. of printed area. The margin at the top and the
bottom of the card are to be 1 cm and the margin on the left and right are to be 1 cm as shown
bel0ow.

On the basis of the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Write the expression for the area of the visiting card in terms of x?
(ii) Obtain the dimension of the card of the minimum area.
8. CASE STUDY II:.
A shopkeeper sells three types of flower seeds A1, A2, A3. They are
sold in the form of a mixture, where the proportions of these seeds are
4: 4: 2 respectively. The germination rates of three types of seeds are
45%, 60%, and 35%respectively.
On the basis of the above information, answer the following
questions:
(i) Calculate the probability that a randomly chosen seed will
germinate.
(ii) Calculate the probability that the seed is of type A2, given 1
that a randomly chosen seed germinates.

9. CASE STUDY III:

An instructor at the astronomical center shows three among the brightest stars in a particular
constellation. Assume that the telescope is located at O (0, 0, 0) and three stars have their
locations at the points D, A and V having position vectors ̂ ̂ ̂, ̂ ̂ ̂ and
̂ ̂ ̂ respectively.
On the basis of the above information, answer the
following questions:
(i) How far is the star V from A?
(ii) Find a unit vector in the direction of ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
(iii) Find the angle VDA . (OR) Find the
projection of ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗ on ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗ .
