Homework 3 - 2

The document outlines Homework 3 for the Engineering Graphics course, focusing on isometric drawing and 3D part modeling. Students are expected to conceptualize and create isometric drawings from given orthographic views, and to develop 3D models in SolidWorks using specific features. The tasks include drawing isometric representations and creating part models while adhering to dimensioning schemes and design intent.

MA2005: ENGINEERING GRAPHICS AY2024 – 2025, Semester 1

HOMEWORK 3: ISOMETRIC DRAWING AND 3D PART MODELLING

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this tutorial, students should be able to
1. Conceptualize complex orthographic views with the aid of an Isometric drawing.
2. Draw isometric drawing on isometric gid given the orthographic views and the
direction of viewing to best describe the object.
3. Apply direct / placed features such as shell and draft.
4. Use swept boss/cut and loft boss/cut.
5. Plan out the sequence for creating the above features to achieve the design
intent.
6. Create complex 3D parametric model by applying the features.

Tasks:
1. Study the given orthographic views represented in 1st or 3rd Angle Projection.
2. Draw isometric drawings from the given orthographic views based on the
direction of viewing or the lowest or highest corner.
3. Optional: Create part model for Q1 to Q4 to develop your ability to read
orthographic views.
4. Create part model in SolidWorks for Questions 5.

Notes:
1. All sketches are to be fully constrained based on the dimensioning scheme
given. (Do not calculate to deduce any dimension).
2. Features should be created such that they can be modified at a later stage base
on the dimensioning scheme / design intent specified.
3. Use placed/direct features where applicable for easy modification.

Q1. Figure 1 shows the orthographic views of a base support presented in the 1st
Angle Projection. Using the isometric paper provided, draw full size the Isometric
Drawing of this object so that point A will be the lowest point in the drawing.
Hidden details are not required. Assume each grid unit represents 5 mm.
