I. Work philosophy:
1. Values, interests, personalities
a) Values
5 values received the greatest number of checks after I complete the exercise are
accomplishment, advancement, education, freedom and independence.
3
b) Interests
My top interest acording to test are creating, helping and persuading. In which:
Creating jobs involve art, design, language, and self-expression. Creators like working
in unstructured environments and producing something unique.
Helping jobs involve assisting, teaching, coaching, and serving other people. Helpers
like working in cooperative environments to improve the lives of others.
Persuading jobs involve leading, motivating, and influencing others. Persuaders like
working in positions of power to make decisions and carry out projects.
4
This sample majors related to Holland Types help me review some sample majors that
may be of interest to me. I find myself interested in Artistic, Social and Computational-
Clerical fields as well as Artistic, Social and Conventional categories. I circled those
areas that seem to fit me which are English, Graphic technology, Marketing technology.
5
c) Personality
After undergoing the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Test on the Truity.com
website, my resulting personality type was identified as ISTJ. The acronym ISTJ stands
for (I) Introverted, (S) Sensing, (T) Thinking, (J) Judging.
In general, arcording to the website myersbriggs.org, ISTJ personality type seems “quiet,
serious, earn success by being thorough and dependable. Practical, matter-of-fact,
realistic, and responsible. Decide logically what should be done and work toward it
steadily, regardless of distractions. Take pleasure in making everything orderly and
organized—their work, their home, their life. Value traditions and loyalty.”
(I) Introverted: might be an expression that encapsulates the qualities and nuances often
associated with an introverted personality type.
+ In my life, I tend to be deep thinkers and often spend time reflecting on my thoughts
and feelings. I am more sensitive to external stimuli, such as noise and crowds. I feel
overwhelmed and be distracted in highly stimulating environment, so prefer quieter,
calmer settings. Express Themselves in Writing, I find it easier to express themselves
through writing rather than verbal communication. I feek more comfortable articulating
6
my thoughts on paper. So, on special occasions for people who are important to me, I
often send words of love to them through letters, cards or a pre-recorded video message,
but I never express them directly.
In study and work, I enjoy working independently more than doing with group. I self-
sufficient and can be quite productive when given the space and autonomy to focus on
my tasks. I also prefer to observe and listen rather than actively engage in constant
conversation, discusion and debate.
However, out of 100%, my extroversion rate is 43%, I think this is not a small number
and it has also been proven to be accurate through my life. While I may not be social
butterflies, I do form deep connections with a more than one circle of friends. Besides, I
don't find it difficult to communicate, however I'm not the person who will initiate a
conversation first. During events or parties with many strangers, I often need time to
warm up. I have to take time to feel comfortable and open up in new social situations.
(S) Sensing
I interpret tangible data and greatly depend on the lessons I've learned from the past to
inform my actions in the future. In work, I prefer to work on tangible projects and follow
things through step-by-step. I will try to comprehend requirements at work and choose to
apply my demonstrated abilities to address pressing issues. I dislike working on projects
with unclear objectives or products; instead, I find open-ended or unduly abstract
assignments to be dissatisfaction.
(F) Thinking
I utilise objective criteria and facts to create well-reasoned decisions, and I apply logical
analysis to address difficulties. I detest fuzziness and like extremely explicit standards
about what is and is not acceptable. Above all, I respect justice, fairness, and the truth.
Furthermore, I am driven by accomplishment and the successful completion of particular
duties. I enjoy doing tasks that call for organisation, critical thinking, or seeing systemic
inconsistencies.
For me, truth usually triumphs over tact, logic over feelings, and I tend to back away
from emotive issues in favour of providing an impartial explanation. I won't obsess over
my feelings over a decision once it has been made. I can occasionally come across as
being quite emotionless and icy.
7
(J) Judging
In study and work, I approach a project by setting clearly defined goals and making a
concrete plan for how to achieve these goals by a set deadline. I like order and prefer to
complete one task before starting another one. I also like to give themselves enough time
to research, plan, and overall prepare so that they can finish a task on time and avoid
future stress. Even when there is a problem to solve, I are thorough, and not only will I
find a solution, but I will have two or three backup solutions ready to go because creating
backup plans is preferable to reacting to circumstances as they arise, for me. Moreover, I
will be far more comfortable when things are settled rather then being up in the air, or too
loose, so I do not function so well where the environment is loose and with no clear
direction or plan of action.
However, I sometimes find it challenging to let things evolve and to go with the flow. I
prefer things to be planned out, and unplanned events can cause nervous behaviours. My
lack of suppleness is also one of my major problems. I could be dogmatic, have trouble
with ambiguity, and find it hard to accept new viewpoints or ideas.
In conclusion, I learn more about my personality and how I interact with the outside
world by examining myself through the lens of these distinguishing characteristics. I can
use these insights to better understand my strengths and shortcomings, make well-
informed decisions, and create plans for both professional and personal development.
2. Career goals
My career vision in the next 4 years is to become a professional English translator.
8
2st goal: Accumulate knowledge and experience
- Reason: ATA certification is one of the industry's most respected credentials for
translators and is the only widely recognized measure of competence for
translation in the U.S. A valuable credential that can enhance your credibility and
open up more opportunities in the field

experience.
Reviewing the ATA Certification Exam Candidate Handbook provided by
ATA, which contains information on the exam structure, content, and sample
questions.
Taking preparatory courses or workshops
Becoming a member to access resources, networking opportunities, and
discounted exam fees.
- Reason: Expertrans Global is a familiar and famous name in the language services
industry in Vietnam. Over 22,000 clients have been served worldwide by
Expertrans to date. Among the symbols that need to be noted are Honda,
VinGroup, Mercedes, Samsung, Microsoft, LG, Panasonic, and Deutsche Bank.
9
- Action steps:
Research the company and wait for intern recruitment
Prepare your resume and cover letter
Highlight relevant skills and education such as an emphasis on language
proficiency, translation training or related courses
Prepare knowledge about the fields, translation techniques and other skillsfor
the interview
3. Skill sets
a) Work experience
My first part-time job was translating video subtitles from English to Vietnamese about
feng shui. I have to use a combination of listening and writing skills to do it. The job
requires me to understand specialized feng shui terms, be proficient in English, and I
must translate literally and exude the spirit of the topic. This job has helped me learn a
number of skills such as: technical skills, writing, time management, detailing.
Secondly, I used to work as an online content writer. This job requires me to complete
three articles a day and make sure deadlines are met. Regarding content, I must ensure
that the information I provide is accurate, objective, and reasonable; Pay attention to
banned words that cannot be used in marketing, ensuring creativity and no plagiarism. In
terms of form, I need to ensure the appropriate length, easy-to-understand language,
conciseness, and succinctness and clearly format the main items: title, subtitles, content,
etc. If I violate One of the above requirements will be deducted from my salary. Besides,
10
late payment also affects the company's working process and progress. I have learnt a
number of skills when I am responsible for this job such as: technical skills, writing,
creating, scheduling, time management, detailing, summarizing.
This was an impressive experience for me because I am quite shy, afraid of pain, and
afraid of needles. Throughout the whole journey of donating blood, I was always
nervous, worried and had many questions. In the end, everything went smoothly, which
made me feel a lot more relieved and I realized that I had done something useful for
society and that everything was not as scary as I thought and I could step out more. a
personal limit.
This activity helped me learn some skills such as: calm, enterprising, assertive, forceful,
risk taking
- Life events
Failed the police academy - passed the foreign language university: this is a big event in
my life. Since I went to school, my dream and direction was the People's Police
Academy, however I did not pass. ULIS is my 2nd wish. The reason this event is
considered a turning point is because these two schools have almost completely different
orientations and learning environments. That required me to change direction in a short
time, adapt quickly as well as put in more effort to keep up with the pace of the school
and the dynamic students at ULIS. Up to now, I have studied in my 3rd year.
I think I have trained myself in problem solving, flexible, forceful, optimistic, risk taking,
self-starting, collaborating skills.
11
- Leisure time or hobby
Go to the yoga studio 3 times/week. I became interested in yoga and participated in it for
1 year. Due to my body being tired, getting enough sleep, eating regularly but lacking
exercise, I turned to yoga. Maintaining exercise helps me change a lot, I feel more
flexible in my body, reduce stress and improve brain function.
Through practice, I have gained additional skills such as: listening, concentration, patient,
controlling
The important people in my life are family. As for my family, even though I had to study
far away from home since I was 15 years old, I always make time to visit my family 1-2
times a month. Every year, my family often travels together to strengthen the relationship
between members. On important occasions like birthdays and holidays, I always prepare
small gifts to give to the people I love and always spend time with them.
I can train myself in communication, coordinating, problem solving, and motivating skills
- Life's frustrations
The thing I'm most disappointed with in myself is procrastination. I have many great
goals and ambitions, but I don't do them right away, and my execution speed is also quite
slow.
- Life's rewards
A recent achievement I achieved was the MOS certification. Although this is not a very
difficult achievement to achieve, for me, I had to overcome my best friend's limitations to
achieve it. First, I had to arrange study time at school to review for exams. Second, I
overcame procrastination. I used to think that I would still be able to take the exam when
the job required it. However, it would be better to gradually accumulate information to
become more confident.
12
b) Accomplishment
From my checklist and accomplishments, and identify five skills that interest me and I
would like to develop are technical skills, problem solving, time management,
communication and flexible.
13
- Work position: Translation
The translation industry is a dynamic and multifaceted sector that plays a crucial role in
facilitating communication across linguistic and cultural boundaries. Its primary objective
is to convey the meaning of written content from one language to another while
preserving the original intent, tone, and context.
After having enough experience, translators can move up to more difficult assignments,
seek certification, and obtain editorial responsibility. Translators can also manage or start
their own business. Growing their own business is a common goal as well as a means to
advance for translators who work for themselves. Translators may submit resumes and
samples to different translation companies who will match the skills with various jobs.
Many get work on the basis of the reputation or through referrals from clients or
colleagues. Some might even launch their own businesses and employ other interpreters
and translators..
In general, the career prospects for translators can be quite promising, especially in our
increasingly globalized world swhere effective communication across languages is
crucial.
In 2022, the global language services industry is expected to be worth USD 60.68 billion
worldwide. With a predicted CAGR of 5.94%, it is expected to reach USD 96.21 billion
by the end of 2032. The translation service market size grew by 40% during COVID-19.
14
In 2020, the demand for translation in healthcare increased by 49% due to the need to
dispense COVID-19 healthcare information. (European Commission)
According to a report by the General Department of Labor Statistics, the recruitment rate
of translators and interpreters will increase by 17% by 2026. The reason is because
Vietnam's demand for foreign tourism tends to increase sharply. Along with that is the
expansion of business to many different areas of domestic enterprises.
15
Government $62,390
16
- Specialized knowledge in a particular field (legal, medical, technical, business,
etc.) is often required. Specialization allows for a deeper understanding of
industry-specific terminology and concepts.
- Continuous Professional Development: Given the evolving nature of language and
technology, translators need to stay updated on industry trends, language changes,
and new tools or techniques.
- Writing Skills: Translators should be able to convey the meaning of the source text
accurately while maintaining a natural flow in the target language.
- Skill sets
Functional skill: time management, attention to detail, ethical standards,
communication skills, problem-solving skills,
Work-content skill: language proficiency, document signing, cultural

means skill in rearranging words or phrases while maintaining meaning;
modulation is dapting the tone and style of the translation based on the context
and target audience; cohesion and coherence is ensuring the translated text is
coherent and flows naturally.)
Adaptive & self-management: seeking new experience, witnessing learn,
collaboration and teamwork
17
III. Career prospect
1. Evaluation suitability
Firstly, I got an ISTJ result for the MBTI test. Research suggests that ISTJs are known for
the attention to detail, and this is a crucial trait for translators. Translators need to
accurately convey the meaning of the source text, paying close attention to grammar,
syntax, and cultural nuances. Moreover, ISTJs prefer a logical and systematic approach to
problem-solving. Translation often involves breaking down complex ideas and
reconstructing them in the target language, which requires a structured mindset. In
addition, ISTJs tend to be rule-followers and appreciate clear guidelines. Translation
follows specific linguistic and cultural rules, and adhering to these rules is essential for
producing accurate and high-quality translations. Furthermore, Translation can be a
meticulous and time-consuming process. ISTJs' patience and perseverance can be
beneficial when working through challenging passages or encountering linguistic
ambiguities. Finally, translators, especially freelancers, need strong organizational skills
to manage multiple projects, keep track of deadlines, and maintain client information.
ISTJs' organizational abilities can contribute to success in this aspect of the profession.
