Hadith 15: Translation and Explanation
Translation:
On the authority of Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of
Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent;
and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his neighbor; and
whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest."
(Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)
Explanation:
This Hadith emphasizes the practical aspects of faith and teaches important principles
for personal and social conduct:
1. Speaking Good or Staying Silent:
- A believer is encouraged to think carefully before speaking. If their words bring
benefit, kindness, or truth, they should speak.
- If there is any doubt about the benefit or if words might harm others, it is better to
stay silent. This helps maintain peace and avoid sins like gossip, slander, or hurting
someone’s feelings.
2. Honoring the Neighbor:
- Islam places great importance on the rights of neighbors. A believer should treat
their neighbors kindly, help them in times of need, avoid disturbing them, and share joy
with them.
- Honoring neighbors strengthens community bonds and ensures harmony in society.
3. Honoring the Guest:
- Hospitality is a significant value in Islam. Welcoming guests with kindness and
generosity is a sign of good character.
- Honoring guests includes offering them food, comfort, and making them feel
respected and cared for.
Lessons from the Hadith:
 Faith in Action: True faith is reflected in how we behave with others, not just
in beliefs or rituals.
 Control of Speech: Words have the power to build or destroy relationships.
Speaking wisely is part of good character.
 Social Responsibility: Treating neighbors and guests with kindness strengthens
the fabric of society.
 Accountability: A believer must remember that they will be accountable to
Allah for their actions, words, and treatment of others.
This Hadith beautifully combines individual self-discipline with social ethics, showing
how faith shapes every aspect of a Muslim’s life.
Hadith 31: Translation and Explanation
Translation:
On the authority of Abu Al-Abbas Sahl ibn Sa'd Al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with
him), who said:
"A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, 'O
Messenger of Allah, direct me to an act which, if I do it, will cause Allah to love me
and people to love me.' He (peace be upon him) said: 'Renounce the world, and Allah
will love you; renounce what people possess, and people will love you.'
(Narrated by Ibn Majah and others with a good chain of narration)
Explanation:
This Hadith provides a concise and profound guideline for earning the love of both
Allah and people:
1. Renounce the World (Zuhd):
- Renouncing the world means detaching your heart from excessive love for material
possessions and worldly pleasures.
- This does not mean abandoning lawful earnings or responsibilities but prioritizing
the Hereafter over worldly desires.
- A person focused on pleasing Allah and not chasing worldly gains earns Allah’s
love.
2. Renounce What Belongs to Others:
- Avoid coveting or being overly concerned with what other people own.
- A person who is content and doesn’t envy or compete for others’ possessions is
admired and loved by people.
- This attitude fosters peace, avoids jealousy, and promotes mutual respect.
Lessons from the Hadith:
 Balance Between Dunya and Akhirah: A believer should use the world as a
means to earn Allah’s pleasure, not as an ultimate goal.
 Contentment (Qana’ah): Being satisfied with what Allah has provided brings
inner peace and earns the respect of others.
 Avoid Greed and Envy: These traits not only distance a person from Allah but
also create conflict and resentment among people.
 Focus on the Heart: True love from Allah and people is earned by developing
sincerity, humility, and detachment from superficial desires.

This Hadith highlights the beauty of simplicity and contentment in both spiritual and
social life.
