Backup the system

For replacement of Control Module Small or Display Module the old software and parameter settings are
needed, as they are plant specific.

Software can be recovered by using the dedicated MAN Service Stick (11.99119-0325) that contains the
necessary software and specifications to extract the files.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: A STANDARD USB STICK WILL LIKELY CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE TO YOUR DISPLAY
MODULE, PLEASE USE ONLY THE DEDICATED MAN SERVICE STICK.

If engine is broken down and there is no communication between CMS and DM, Software and parameters
can be recovered from a similar engine on same plant.

How to return data

Once the backup has been made, please ZIP the file and send it to [email protected], marked
with your subjected order number and plant number (vessel-IMO).
It is important that the file is in .ZIP format, or else it will not make it through our firewall/antivirus. Further
please ensure that there are 2 .SDI files in the folder, one from the Display Module and one from the
Control Module; Named like: xxxx_DM_xxx.sdi & xxxx_CM-S_xxx.sdi.

Backup with MAN Service Stick

During the backup process status messages will be displayed in the upper left coner of the screen. The
backup process runs automatically.

Fig. 1 The USB port is located at the back of the Display Module (left). To access the port, you have to
remove the metal cover first (right).

1. Remove the metal cover of the USB port at the back of the Display Module. Note that you have to
use a Torx screwdriver to loosen the screws.
2. Connect the dedicated MAN Service Stick

The display message indicates that the connected stick was initialised properly and is now ready for
operation.
3. The Display Module is now processing and copying all device image data to the stick.

Do not remove the stick while this message is shown. Otherwise data loss and/or corruption of the
file system on the stick may occur. The backup may take several minuts.
4. As soon as the process is finished, a status is indicated.

The Display Module has finished copying all data to the stick.
5. Remove the stick
6. Do not forget to refit the cover and tighten the screws when the backup process is done.

Backup with parameter settings.

If a backup file for some reason cannot be obtained, then in emergency cases our Engineers can make a
.SDI file for the SaCoS module based upon you current parameter settings.

The cost of having an Engineer produce this file is 380€ per engine type.
