I. Overview
Model DS-1108 Coding Machine is a newly solid ink roller coding
machine with novel structure, developed from the original design of our
factory. It can be assembled into all kinds of pillow-type or continuous
vertical packing machine for tracing and automatic printing production date,
batch number, etc.. Compact in structure, convenient in assembling and using,
fast in printing with large printing cover, flexible in formatting of types, and
much shorter in the minimum printing distance, it is amazingly applicable for
various enterprises engaged in food or drug production to print production
time, batch number, etc..

1. When the coding machine receives printing signals, it will drive the types installed
on the type wheel to rotate. During the rotation, the types contact with the ink roller
and stain ink from the heated ink roller;
2. The types continuously rotate through the driving by the rubber wheel and rubber
roller. They contact with the lining and packing film, and then the ink on the types is
printed to lining (packing film) to form print fonts.
3. Ensure that the rubber wheel and rubber roller on the type rack keep favorable
contact during operation to assure the clearness and consistence of types printed.

IV. Installation and adjustment
♦ Installation requirements
1. Make sure the working status and control signals of the packing machine are
effective.
2. Stable power supply: AC220±10V, max. 2A current.
3. Reliable printing signal -It may be the automatically closed relay signal upon
the request of printing or signal from NPN, PNP sensor, light spot switch and
PLC.
4. Enough space should be reserved for installing printer.
♦ Checking home position of the type wheel
1. Before assembling the head of coding machine to the frame, turn type wheel of
the coding machine to its home position, i.e. Keep two gaps in the rubber wheel
of type wheel in vertical position while keep type wheel locked.
2. Assemble printing head into the frame through link block, while keep the
bottom gap of the rubber wheel of type wheel over against rubber roller, free of
any contact.

♦ Adjustment of pressure of ink roller
When the ink roller is heated to melt, and the gap between type wheel and ink
roller is too small due to contact, which makes the printed handwriting unclear or
leads to failure of printing, the pressure of the ink roller and type wheel shall be
properly adjusted to suitable status.
The steps are shown as follows:
1. First, loosen the hold-down nut which is used to adjust the mandrill of ink
roller shaft and adjust it to a proper position. Then, fix the hold-down nut.
2. This machine has been properly adjusted already before leaving the factory. It
is only required to adjust properly according to actual conditions in the future.
3. Gently rotate the ink roller shaft by hand. (Note: The ink roller shaft is an
eccentric shaft). Observe the change of the eccentric position of the ink roller shaft
compared with that before adjustment. Then, the contact status of ink roller and type
wheel may be adjusted;
4. After adjustment, install the ink roller directly to the ink roller shaft and
observe the contact status of ink roller and type wheel. Adjust it to a proper status;
♦ Adjustment of printing position
Change the value of position on the control box. This value is defined as follows
in various working modes:
Synchronization tracking mode: The regulation range is 1-999. Each value refers
to a pulse number. For example, if the encoder with 500 pulses is connected, the bag
length is 300mm. The stroke of the whole bag is 300 pulses. Then, one pulse is equal
to the length of 1mm.
Automatic tracking mode: The regulation range is 1-99%. It is adjusted
according to the percentage of length of packing bag. For example, if the length of
bag is 200mm, 1% of value adjusted is equal to the length of 2mm. Prompt: Press on
the increase button or decrease button for 3 seconds, the system will quickly turn over
at the unit of 10.
♦ Replacement of types
Take out the type wheel. After it is cooled, take out the silicon film which is used
to fix types and type wheel catch and then get out the types requiring replacement in
order. After the required types are replaced, install the type wheel catch and silicon
film back in order.
♦ Replacement of ink roller
The zero position of machine must be correct. Otherwise, it may obstruct the
obtaining of the ink roller. To take out ink roller, it is only required to grasp the core
sleeve handle of ink roller and pull it outside (Note: The ink roller is under heating.
The ink roller sleeve also has certain heat. Pay attention to the temperature to prevent
your hand from burning when taking out the ink roller). Then, remove the used ink
roller and install a new one.

If it is not allowed to stop machine beyond 10 minutes, you may preheat a new
ink roller by using a preheater (optional accessory, which should be purchased
separately).
♦ Print mode
On the main board of control box, P6 jumper refers to the selection of print
mode. Include:
1. The jumper is shorted: Automatic tracking print mode;
2. Disconnect the jumper: Synchronization print mode;
NOTICE: The default setting is on automatic tracking print mode.
♦ Automatic tracking mode
In auto-track mode, printing position is adjusted by setting the percentage of
delayed printing cycle, that adjusting the percentage of the time of received two
printing signals. The printing position could be the same and accurate on the
packages of the same packing length, even if the packing speed changes.
Unfortunately, the print of the first package is unable to be given the right order
by the coder due to the failure of coder's detecting the speed of packing machines.
We integrated the domestic use of most of the packaging machines and set a virtual
speed (200 packages/ min) in the program to control the printing position of the first
package. In this case, the printing position of the first package is not necessarily
correct.
When the packing speeds is less than 60 packages per minute, the interval time
of received signals is over 1 second, and then the state of packaging machine is
default as downtime. When receiving another printing signal, the coders print
regarding it as the first package, with speed up to 200 packages per minute. The
adjustment range of printing position is 300ms only.
♦ Synchronization tracking mode
In synchronization tracking mode, the print signal is from the external encoder
(the encoder on packing machine or additional installed external encoder) which is
tracking the speed of the packing machine. Therefore, every printing position is
accurate cause that it would not be interfere by the speed change of the packing
machine.
When it is set into synchronization tracking mode, external coding signals has to
be input; otherwise, the printing omission of first package will occur and all the
following packages will remain in the unfinished status.

Adjustment
♦ Checking and adjusting the home status of the machine
Check relative position of rubber wheel of type wheel and rubber roller: Have type
wheel in its initial position with the gap of its rubber wheel over against rubber roller
and free of any contact to rubber roller(as shown in the diagram below), otherwise it
will print abnormally or can’t print. During printing (coding machine receives
printing signal), the rubber wheel and the type wheel must contact the rubber roller
(as shown in the diagram below). Coding is completed once through the contact of
rubber roller and rubber wheel to assure the clear and stable coding. Otherwise, the
printing will become abnormal or unclear (the printing effect can be reached by
adjusting the pressure of rubber roller and rubber wheel. The specific method is
shown in the pressure adjustment of rubber roller and rubber wheel in the next
section).

♦ Installing the control box
The connection and installation of the control box is shown in the following
diagram. During the connection process, please d not start the power supply to cause
accidents and injuries.
1. Signal connecting line: The signal connecting line is 5-pin aviation joint. The
other end is the unconnected terminal used for connection with external signals and
coding signals. Please check the following instructions to connection for detailed
connection information.
2. Driving line: The driving line is 7-pin aviation plug. One end is connected to
the control box and the other end is connected to the coding machine.
3. Connection of power line: One end of the power connection line is a plug
matched with the socket and the other end is an unconnected terminal which can be
directly used to connect to the power supply in the packing machine. It is forbidden
to use the machine during connection. Also, it is required to set the power switch to
shut-down status.
Please remember: Do not plug or pull the abovementioned connection line when
there is electricity, to avoid circuit fault or injuries due to unfavourable contact.
AC220V50/60HZ AC power supply is applicable for this machine as default. Please
inform if you use other power supplies, to avoid making the machine work
abnormally. Also, make sure the grounding end is reliably connected.

♦ Coding signal connection line
There are 2 lines used to connect the coding signals of the packing machine.
Include:
1. The red line is used to connect the signals of encoder (or coded disc) of the
packing machine. During connection, use signals with different phases as the packing
machine as many as possible. (For example, if the encoder signal used by a packing
machine is phase-A signal, the coding machine shall use the phase-B signal of the
encoder). The number of pulses of the encoder used shall be better within 600.
Otherwise, the adjustment range of position will be too small to meet the production
requirement;
2. The white line is connected according to the output type of the encoder of the
packing machine:
As for NPN output, the white line is connected to the DC power supply used by
the encoder;
As for PNP output, the white line is connected to COM end of the encoder.
Note: If it is not connected to the coding signal line, the working mode must be
set as automatic tracking print mode.
♦ External encoder
Application situation:
1. The packing machine cannot provide effective coding signal;
2. Coding resolution of the packing machine is larger than 600 pulses;
3. Production frequency is less than 25 packages per minute or length of each
product is longer than 200mm. It is required to connect to another external
encoder.

♦ Installation of print signal
1. Printing signal of coding machine is produced by approach switch (or photoelectric
switch). When using approach switch, inductive locating seat is generally assembled
to horizontal sealing cutter shaft or other shafts synchronous with cutter shaft, so
that approach switch can produce one printing signal after every circle of cutter
shaft (Note: Two inductive locating seats are required when there are double blades
on the shaft, so that approach switch can produce two printing signals after every
circle of cutter shaft), and drive the coding machine to finish one cycle of printing.
2. If photoelectric switch is adopted, color code photoelectric sensor
is required to sense the color code on the packing film to produce
the printing signal.
3. The output type of the two sensors mentioned above is
NPN type. The connection is shown in the control line Relay contact
diagram.
If other signal types are used, please refer to the
introduction of the following table.
4. The packing machine obtains the printing signals. A pair
of normally opened contacts of relay controlled by color
code photoelectric eye or synchronous with knife shaft
can be obtained. The connection is shown in the control
line diagram.
Note: The default signal type of the coding machine
is NPN. For other types of signals, please make NPN trigger connection
relevant adjustment on dial switches according to the
following table.

IX. Routine maintenance
♦ Clear away accumulated residual ink on heating block, type wheel and types for at
least once every week. Otherwise heat conduction of the heating block will be
affected and temperature of roller wheel and type wheel will be too low. As a result,
the printing effect will be adversely influenced. At the same time, as type wheel is
adhered by residual ink, types will be boned to the type wheel under normal
temperature. It is hard to take them out, which will affect replacement. If excessive
residual ink remains in the type wheel, the printing will be illegible too.
♦ To clear away residual ink, you may wipe the type wheel shaft and ink roller shaft
with clean soft cloth after the coding machine reaches operational temperature. Under
normal temperature, you can use appropriate industrial alcohol to clean.
♦ It is recommended to add a proper amount of grease to the front bearing or replace
it after one year when the performance of the machine declines, to make sure the
machine is in the best working status.
♦ For bonding of residual ink, it is hard to take out types under normal temperature.
The types can be taken out after the machine reaches operational temperature.
Do not use screwdriver, pliers and other similar tools to forcefully pry out of the
types stained in the residual ink, for it will damage the type wheel.
