Where to Start for Beginners
This pattern is difficult and not designed for beginners. But you will need some prior
experience in crochet to get started with this pattern. I’ve included a full length video
tutorial for this pattern (linked on the previous page) that will go through every single
stitch and technique needed in detail, I highly encourage crocheting along with that video if
you are a beginner.
If you need extra help, I’ve included a few pattern specific tutorials below from my starter
series, Crocheting 101: How to Crochet for Complete Beginners. If you’re having an
exceptionally difficult time, I suggest starting from the beginning of that series to learn all the
basics to this awesome craft. You can jump right in by clicking here.

Insert the hook into the stitch or Yarn over your hook, and pull it Yarn over and pull through

Crochet the Spiked Bobble (aka “sbo”) (25:25)
Step 1:
Work 2 dc into one st,
leaving the last loop of each Step 2:
on the hook. With the loops still on the hook,
work a mini picot (ch 2, slst into Step 3:

leaving the last loop of each

Step 4: Yarn over and draw through all the loops on the hook.

[Starting in Color A]
A Magic loop
Rnd 3 - 4: sc in each st (9 x 2)
In the next few Rnds, all sbo (spiked bobble) and bean (bean stitch) stitches are in Color B,

the rest are in Color A.

Rnd 7: sc 1, bo 1, sc 2, bo 1, sc 13 (18)
bo = Bobble Stitch
Add eyes between Rnds 3 and 4 *These are all in Color A and will be our feet.
under the sbo stitches.

In the next few Rnds, all mbo (mini bobble stitches) are in Color B,
B the rest are in Color A.

[Ch 3, pull ch tight, skip the first ch, sc2tog in the next 2 chs, ch 1] repeat 5 times total (5 spikes)
Cut the yarn and pull through. Sew these onto the sides of your Ankylosaurus after finishing the
body.
(1:18:00) Sew on the Side Spikes up the sides of the dino starting at 1 st away from the
bean stitch in Rnd 14 and going up the sides of the body ending 1 stitch down (towards the
belly) from the sbo stitches from Rnd 5.
