ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMUNITY HEALTH TEAM IN

THE PHILIPPINES
Introduction: In the Philippines, community health teams are vital in providing grassroots health services, especially
in underserved and rural areas. These teams consist of public health nurses, midwives, barangay health workers,
and allied health professionals, all working together to enhance public health.

Instructions for Guided Questions Activity: Community Health Team Roles

Objective: To enhance your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of community health teams in the
Philippines by critically analyzing and discussing key aspects of their functions. This activity aims to develop your
analytical skills and ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.

Activity Overview:

1. Form Groups:
o Divide into small groups of 3-4 students. Each group will discuss and answer a set of guided
questions related to the roles and responsibilities of various community health team members.

2. Review the Questions:

o Each group will be assigned different categories of roles (e.g., Public Health Nurse, Midwife,
Barangay Health Worker, Other Allied Health Professionals, Coordination and Collaboration,
Challenges and Solutions). Review the provided guided questions for your assigned category.

3. Discuss and Analyze:

o Collaboratively discuss each guided question within your group. Consider real-world examples, best
practices, and potential challenges in each role. Use your textbook, class notes, and additional
resources to support your answers.

4. Document Your Answers:

o Assign a group member to record the group's answers to each question in a clear and organized
manner. Ensure that your responses are comprehensive and reflect a deep understanding of each
role.

5. Prepare a Summary:
o Summarize your findings in a brief presentation or report. Highlight key points, and provide specific
examples and references where applicable.

6. Present and Peer Review:

o Present your group's findings to the class. After each presentation, engage in a peer review session
where other groups can ask questions and provide feedback. Discuss any differing viewpoints or
additional insights.

7. Reflect and Evaluate:

o After all presentations, reflect on what you’ve learned about the roles and responsibilities of
community health teams. Consider how this knowledge can be applied in your future nursing
practice.

Guidelines for Effective Discussion:

 Be Thorough: Ensure that your answers address all aspects of the guided questions.
 Be Specific: Use specific examples and refer to relevant laws, policies, or case studies when applicable.
 Be Collaborative: Engage all group members in the discussion and make sure everyone contributes.
 Be Critical: Analyze each role’s impact on community health, and discuss potential challenges and
solutions.
Submission:

 Submit your group's summary report after the allotted time. Ensure that all members' names are included,
and provide references for any additional sources used.
