Introduction
A full wave rectifier is a device which is usedto rectify
all the alternating currentcomponents in an alternating
supply andmake it purely a direct current. The
twoalternating halves of an alternation currentare
rectified in a full wave rectifier which isan advantage
over a halfwave rectifier. Mostelectronic devices cannot
withstand veryhigh voltage or alternating current due to
itsintense high power. The use of batteries inall devices
is not practical as their replacement and durability is a
huge problem as the device has to be dismantled each
time for such a replacement So these rectifiers are used
in most of the electronic devices like TV's, Radios,
Chargers, Lightings etc
There are several stages in a vectifier.Based
on their rectification they aredassified into
two. The single staged &multi staged. In the
multi staged rectifiers, more than two diodes
are used and theseare used in the above-
mentioned devices.The singled staged
rectifier has only2diodes, the one we are to
discuss in thisproject. The multi diode
rectifier has only2 diodes, the one we are to
discuss in thisproject. The multi diode
rectifiers has anefficiency ~ 94.6% while that
of the singleis only 81.2%.

Connection details

• Connections are done as in the circuit.

• The A.C.supply is given to both the
inputwives of the transformer and the
twoends of the secondary coil is given to
theP side of the two diodes and the N
side of the diodes are twined and
thenconnected to one end of the
capacitorand the other end to the center
tap leadand to the resistor. Further, the
otherend of capacitor with the
diodeconnection is connected to the
otherend of the resistor

D1 is forward biased as it is connected tothe top
of the secondary winding whilediode D2 is reverse
biased as it isconnected to the bottom of
thesecondary winding. Due to this, diode D1will
conduct acting as a short circuit and D2 will not
conduct acting as an opencircuitDuring the
negative half cycle, the diode D1 is reverse
biased and the diode D2 isforward biased because
the top half of the secondary circuit becomes
negativeand the bottom half of the circuitbecomes
positive. Thus in a full waverectifiers, DC voltage
is obtained forboth positive and negative
half cycle

Advantages:
The full-wave rectifier has moreefficiency
compared to that of a half-wave rectifier.
There is the utilization of both thecycles.
Hence there is no loss in theoutput power.
As both the cycles used inrectification. There
will be no loss inthe input voltage signal.
Ripple factor is less compared to thatof the
half-wave rectifier.Greater mean in DC
value is achieved.
Compare to the center-tapped full-wave
rectifier bridge rectifier is cost-effective
because the center-tapped ismore costly.
Applications
The amplitude for the modulating
radiosignal is detected using the full-
wavebridge rectifier circuit.
In electric wielding to supply steady
DCvoltage in a polarized way, this circuit
ispreferred.
As the efficiency of rectification is high in
this rectifier circuit, it is used in
variousappliances as a part of the power
supplyunit.
It has the capability of converting high
ACvoltage to low DC value.
In case of powering up of the devices
likemotors and LED devices these are used.
