2.ARITHMETIC PROGRESSIONS
1.(i)Find the 31st term of an AP whose 11th term is 38 and the 16th term is 73.
(ii)If the 3rd and the 9th terms of an AP are 4 and – 8 respectively, which term of this AP is zero?

5.(i). An A.P consists of 37 terms. The sum of the three middle most terms is 225 and the sum of
the last three terms is 429. Find the A.P.

8. (i)Find the 11th term from the last term of the AP : 10, 7, 4, . . ., – 62.
(ii)Find the sum of the first 40 positive integers divisible by 6.
9. If m times the mth term of an A.P is equal to n times its nth term, show that the (m+n)th term of
the A.P. is zero.
10.If Sn , the sum of first n terms of an AP is given by Sn = 3n2 – 4n , find the nth term and
common difference.
11. Manpreet Kaur is the national record holder for women in the shot-put discipline. Her throw
of 18.86m at the Asian Grand Prix in 2017 is the maximum distance for an Indian female
athlete. Keeping her as a role model, Sanjitha is determined to earn gold in Olympics one day.
Initially her throw reached 7.56m only. Being an athlete in school, she regularly practiced both
in the mornings and in the evenings and was able to improve the distance by 9cm every week.
During the special camp for 15 days, she started with 40 throws and every day kept increasing
the number of throws by 12 to achieve this remarkable progress.
(i) How many throws Sanjitha practiced on 11th day of the camp?
(ii) What would be Sanjitha’s throw distance at the end of 6 weeks?
(iii) How many throws did she do during the entire camp of 15 days ?

12.(i) Your younger sister wants to buy an electric car and plans to take loan from a bank for
electric car. She repays her total of Rs 3,21,600 by paying every month starting with the first
instalment of Rs 2000 and it increases the instalment by Rs 200 every month.
(ii).In a board game, the no. of sea shells in various cells forms an arithmetic progression. If the
number of sea shells in the 3rd and 11th cell together is 68 and number of shells in the 11th cell is
24 more than that of 3rd cell
Based on the above information, answer the following questions.
(i)What is the difference between the number of sea shells in the 20th and 18th cells?
(ii) How many sea shells are there in the first cell?
(iii) How many total sea shells are there in first 15 cells?

12. Read the case study-based questions carefully and answer the following: Jyoti was trying to
find the height of tower near her house. She is using the properties of similar triangles. The
height of Jyoti's house is 20 m. When Jyoti’s house casts a shadow of 10 m long on the ground,
at the same time, tower casts a shadow of 50 m long and Sonu's house casts a shadow of 20 m
long on the ground as shown below.
i)What is the height of the tower?
ii)What will be the length of shadow of tower when Jyoti’s house casts a shadow 15 m?
iii)What is the height of the Sonu’s house?
