A. ACTIVITY

Taks 1: The students will read and analyze the text the teacher
will present using PowerPoint presentation.

B. ANALYSIS

1. What can you say about the language use in the


letter?
2. Do you think the letter is appropriate?

Objectives:
a) identify the features of a well-written text based on
language use.
b) evaluate a written text based on its language use.
c) apply the different principles of language in writing
paragraphs.

C. ABSTRACTION
(Group Activity)
The students will be divided into three groups. They will be
given the level of language use and asked to give examples of
each.

What Is Language Use?


Language use is one of the clearest indicators of a well-written
text. It enables writers to effectively communicate ideas
without confusing the reader. It allows the writer to express
the message that they want to convey to the readers.
What are the Levels of Language Use?
1. Informal/Personal - slang, local expressions, text messaging.
It is usually used in
writing for family, friends, and colleagues.
2. Standard/Academic - widely accepted words and phrases
found in books,
magazines, and newspapers.
Business/Technical - scientific terms, jargons, and special
expressions.
What are the Principles of Language Use?
1. Use clear and concise sentences, usually about 18
words long.
2. 2. Avoid redundancies, clichés, wordiness, and
highfalutin.
3. Although may be used, avoid overusing, “There” and
“It”. Drop it.
4. Be consistent in pronoun point of view.
5. Avoid sexist language.
6. Use appropriate level of formality.

D. APPLICATION

Practice Task 1: Let’s LEVEL up Task 2 (Board work)


Direction: Each group will pick a paper with a word, and
they will identify it according to the level of language use.

EVALUATION
Determine the principle of language use applied in the
sentences that follow. Choose Task 3 (Individual Task)
your answer from the box. Write the letter of your choice on a
separate sheet of paper.

VI. ASSIGNMENT
The students will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will
choose one from the options about the most hated rule in the
house. Consider the proper language use as a property of a
well-written text. Task 4 : (Group Activity)
1. Everybody must be home at 8 PM.
2. No boyfriend/girlfriend while studying.
3. No ML during school days.
4. School-house, house-school policy.
5. Parents’ decisions are final.
