Exercise 02:

1. The diameter of a sphere and the base of a cone are equal. What percentage of that diameter must
the cone’s height be so that both volumes are equal?

a) H/D = 200%

b) H/D = 300%

c) H/D = 400%

d) H/D = 500%

2. A circular piece of cardboard with a diameter of one meter will be made into a conical hat 40cm high
by cutting a sector off and joining the edges to form a cone. Determine the diameter of the cone in cm.

a) 40cm

b) 50cm

c) 60cm

d) 70cm

3) A clock has a dial face 12inches in diameter. The minute hand is 9inches long while the hour hand is
6inches long. The plane of rotation of the minute hand is 2inches above the plane of rotation of the hour
hand. Find the distance in inches between the tips of the hands of the clock at 5:40am.

a) 12.124in

b) 5.34in

c) 9.168in

d) 10.67in

4. The inner surface area in square meter of a closed (both ends) cylinder 2meters in height and 3meters
in diameter is

a)30pi()

b) 36/4 pi()

c) 6pi()

d) 21/2pi()

5. Given the regular cube ABCDEFGH, with each side measuring six inches, I,J, and K are midpoints of
sides AD,CD, and FD, respectively. Find the total surface area of the remaining part of the cube., when a
plane thru I, J and K is passed and the small part removed.

a) 210 sq.in

b) 110 sq.in
c) 190 sq.in

d) 220 sq.in

7. Four grapefruits (considered spheres) 6cm in diameter were placed in a square box whose inside base
dimensions are 12cm by 12cm. In the space between the first four grapefruit, a fifth of the same
diameter was then placed on top of them. How deep must the box be so that the top will just touch the
fifth gapefruit?

Answer = 10.24cm

8. A spherical ball of radius 3cm was dropped into a conical vessel of depth 8cm and the radius of base
6cm. What is the area of the portion of the sphere which lies above the circle of contact with the cone?

Answer = 90.48cm

9. Find the volume of the solid common to two cylinders intersecting at 90degrees angle if radius of
cylinders are both 3m.

Answer = 144cc

10. Find the volume of a right conoid whose base radius is 1m and every cross section is an isosceles
triangle of altitude 2m.

Answer = 3.14 cu. Units
