Fire and smoke detection system with alarm using arduino
Abstract
The "Fire and Smoke Detection System with Alarm Using Arduino" is a cost-effective solution
for detecting fire and smoke hazards. Using an MQ2 smoke sensor for flammable gases and
smoke and a flame sensor for infrared light detection, it ensures accurate hazard identification.
The Arduino microcontroller processes sensor data and activates an alarm system, including a
buzzer, flashing LEDs, and optional real-time alerts via Wi-Fi or GSM modules.
Powered by a 9V or rechargeable battery with a low-battery indicator, this portable system is
ideal for home security, industrial safety, automotive applications, and air quality monitoring.
Its affordability and versatility make it a reliable tool for protecting lives and property.
Smoke Detection:
The smoke detector utilizes a photoelectric sensor (or ionization sensor, depending on the
model) to detect the presence of smoke particles in the air. When smoke enters the sensing
chamber, it scatters light (in the case of a photoelectric sensor) or disrupts the ion flow (in the
case of an ionization sensor).
The MQ2 smoke sensor is a versatile gas sensor designed to detect a range of flammable
gases and smoke, making it ideal for fire detection systems. It works by measuring the
resistance change in its sensing material (tin dioxide) when exposed to smoke or gases.
This change is converted into an electrical signal for processing.
Processing:
The microcontroller processes the signal from the sensor to determine if the smoke
concentration exceeds a predefined threshold. This ensures accurate and reliable
detection of potential fire hazards.
Alert Mechanism:
If smoke is detected above the threshold:
