Volume-Pressure Relationship and Error Analysis

1. Abstract: This lab investigates the skill of data interpretation. A few parts are
conducted: graphing the data by hand and using Microsoft Excel, and error analysis
using mean, standard deviation, and error of the mean. Results are presented with
consideration of uncertainties, and error propagation is applied to various
expressions.
2. Introduction: The lab is about error analysis. Error analysis principles are
applied to enhance the understanding of experimental uncertainties.
3. Materials:
 Data
 Calculator
 Pencil & Paper
 Computer (Excel)
Procedure:
 Interpret volume and pressure data at room temperature.
 Hand-draw a graph and calculate slope, y-intercept.
 Graph data in Excel and compare results.
4. Raw Data:

5. Equations/Calculations:
 Boyle's Law: V=R⋅T/P+0
 R=0.0820L⋅atm/K
6. Analysis/Graphs:

 Line of best fit: y=-20.366x+56.22

 Y-intercept: 56.22
 Slope: -20.366
7. Discussion Questions:

8. Conclusion: The hand-drawn and Excel-generated graphs provide consistent

results, validating the volume-pressure relationship. Error analysis ensures
reliability, and error propagation calculations enhance understanding of measured
quantities. The experiment yields valuable insights into the principles of Boyle's Law
and error analysis, contributing to the overall understanding of gas behavior.
