Control Systems - Task 1

PROBLEM STATEMENT: 1

At NIT Trichy,a group of bright engineering students gathered


for their introduction class to control systems. Dr.Patel,your
innovative professor, was known for presenting real-world
challenges,and wants to test the students' knowledge.

"Today," Dr. Patel announced, "I have a challenge for you. You
must analyze a spring-mass-damper-cart system. Your tasks
are to derive the transfer function and state-space
representation and check whether the system is
controllable,observable using Matlab or Octave and
compare position and velocity using the graph."You went
to the lab and saw the cart system as shown below.You are
eager for the challenge hence accepted the task with
determination.

Can you be able to impress Dr.Patel by finding the necessary?


PROBLEM STATEMENT:2

In 2024, at the Institute of Advanced Engineering, a group of


graduate students including you received an urgent challenge
from their department head, Dr. Liu. The task was to stabilize a
device known as the "Inverted Pendulum System," a wellknown
project in control systems engineering.

Dr. Liu briefed them: "Your objective is to balance the inverted


pendulum in the upright position using CoppeliaSim.
Implement a PID controller algorithm to achieve this. Success
in this task will demonstrate mastery of advanced control
techniques and has practical implications for robotics and
automation."

IMP INSTRUCTIONS:

1.Its mandatory for the pendulum to balance for at


least 25 seconds in realtime

2.We will take maximum time as 1 minute for the


evaluation, but there's no restriction on max time
limit
BONUS:

Is there any better control algorithm other than PID you


can implement here?If Yes,try to balance with that
control algorithm

Hint:Use the logic and approach applied in the PS1

EVALUATION METRICS:

1. Approach to solving the problem.

2. Neatness of the code and comments explaining steps

3. Partial/Full implementation of the Output for the PS
