STAT130

AIM: To introduce a wide range of statistical techniques
required for the analysis of data.

• Full solutions will be made available in the Tutorial folder.


PRACTICALS

• The Microsoft Excel component of STAT130.

• Excel demonstrations will take place during some of the timetabled


tutorial sessions.

• Excel workbooks with interactive exercises for you to complete will be


added to the Tutorials folder after the Excel practicals.
Assessments
 Format: Online multiple choice quizzes. Open-book.

 Dates and content: Will be confirmed during the semester


and will be based on progress of work covered.

 Solutions to formative assessments will be made available,


BUT only after all students have written those tests.

 Students must attend all the tests.

Assessment quiz protocols

• Have time limits. The timer will continue even if “save” is pressed or if
you log out of Moodle.

• Test quizzes will be available for a limited number of days/hours.

• Assessment quizzes are based on a random sample of questions so it


will differ from student to student.

• You will be given one attempt.

Final mark

 STAT130 uses continuous assessment so marks from all the

tests are used to calculate the final mark.

 Final mark: Made up from 20% of the formative test marks

and 80% of the summative test marks.

Aegrotat Test

 Only for students with valid reasons for missing tests. (Relevant

documentation must be provided.)

 Format: Oral or written.

 Date: Will be written soon after the original test.

NOT a make-up test

Medical certificates
Medical certificates must be submitted (only to administrator) within one week of the
missed test. Students admitted to medical facilities need to submit a medical certificate
on the first day after being discharged.

All medical certificates will be confirmed for authenticity. Receiving fraudulent medical
certificates and other reports will be forwarded to the university proctor for
disciplinary action. This is considered a serious offence requiring university action.

Check results
It is your responsibility to check your marks regularly on Student Central. We will not
consider any late requests for mark changes or corrections. The university policy for
changes to exam marks will be strictly applied.
CLASS REPRESENTIVIVE
A student can either volunteer or be selected by their peers.
Must be someone who attends lectures regularly/is responsible.

Role of a class rep:


 A middle person between lecturer and students
 Issues of a general nature should be raised through the class
rep.
 Set up and manage a class WhatsApp group.
