Introduction
This worksheet is designed to help you review and strengthen your skills in solving mul-
tistep inequalities. Remember to follow the proper steps:
Exercises
Solve each inequality and express your solution in set-builder notation.
1. 5x − 3 ≥ 2x + 9
2. 7 − 3(2y + 1) < 4y + 5
3. −2(3z − 4) + 5 ≤ 8z − 7

4. 4

5. 4p − 3(2p − 7) ≤ 5(p + 1)
7. 8 − 2(r + 3) ≥ 4r − 10
9. 7t − 3(2t + 4) ≤ 10
10. 4u − 5 ≥ 2u + 11

Word Problems
Solve the following real-life applications involving inequalities:
1. A movie theater charges $8 per ticket, plus a $2 processing fee for the entire pur-
chase. Write and solve an inequality to determine how many tickets you can buy
with a budget of at most $50.
2. A contractor has $500 to spend on supplies. Each bag of cement costs $25, and
additional tools cost $150. Write and solve an inequality to find how many bags of
cement the contractor can buy while staying within budget.
3. A cellphone plan costs $40 per month and includes 5 GB of data. Additional data
costs $10 per GB. Write and solve an inequality to determine the maximum amount
of data you can use without exceeding $80 in a month.
4. A store is having a sale where you receive a 20% discount on the total price. After
the discount, the price must not exceed $100. Write and solve an inequality to
determine the maximum original price of the items you can buy.
5. A runner wants to average at least 6 minutes per mile over 5 miles. If the runner’s
first 4 miles took 6.5, 6.2, 5.8, and 6.0 minutes, write and solve an inequality to
determine the maximum time they can take for the last mile.
Challenge Problem
A fundraiser has a goal of raising at least $10,000. Each participant pays a
registration fee of $50 and is expected to raise an average of $200 in additional
donations. If there are currently 30 participants registered, write and solve
an inequality to determine how many more participants are needed to meet
the goal.
Practice is the key to mastering inequalities. Keep reviewing and improving your skills!
