Data Science Roles:

• In data science, different roles are focus on specific tasks related to working with data,
analyzing it, and making decisions.

• The main roles in data science are:

1. Data Scientist

2. Data Engineer

3. Data Analyst

1. Data Scientist:

a. A data scientist is a key member of a data science team who uses data to understand and
solve complex problems.

b. They are very curious, always looking to find patterns and insights from data.

c. Data scientists are experts in math, statistics, and machine learning.

d. They also need to know how to program, usually in languages like Python or R.

e. Many data scientists start by studying math or science fields like economics or physics.

f. This role is usually not entry-level and often requires an advanced degree and experience.

Responsibilities:

a. Create models: Build tools that can predict outcomes or solve problems using data.
b. Analyze data: Work with large sets of complex data to find useful insights.
c. Test ideas: Design experiments to see what works and what doesn’t.
d. Collaborate: Work with engineers and analysts to collect and prepare data and
maintain data systems.
e. Visualize data: Use charts and graphs to present findings to others clearly.

Skills:

Machine learning, statistics, data visualization, programming (Python, R), SQL, domain
expertise. So, Data scientists use data and math to help companies make better decisions.

Working areas of data scientist:

a. National Security
b. Cyber Security
c. Business Analytics
d. Engineering
e. Healthcare
f. Automobile
g. Retail
h. Marketing
i. Advertisements and more ….

2. Data Engineer:

a. A data engineer plays an important role in making sure the data used in data science is
collected, stored, and processed properly.

b. Without good data, data science can’t work well.

c. Data engineers build and maintain the systems (like databases and pipelines) that allow
the data science team to handle large amounts of data.

d. They make sure the data is available when needed and that it is of high quality.

Responsibilities:

a. Build data pipelines: Create systems that move and organize data from different sources
into a central storage like a data warehouse or data lake.
b. Maintain infrastructure: Set up the tools and systems needed to support data science
work, such as data storage and processing tools.
c. Ensure data quality: Make sure data is accurate, consistent, and reliable across all
sources.
d. Collaborate with others: Work with data scientists, analysts and other team members to
understand what data is needed and provide the right support.

Skills:

a. SQL, Python, Spark, Hadoop, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), database
management.

b. So, data engineers make sure the right data is collected, stored, and ready for use.

3. Data Analyst:
a. A data analyst is a professional who collects, processes, and analyzes large sets of data.

b. They use different tools to find useful information in the data and share those insights
with decision-makers.

c. This role is similar to business analysts (who focus on business needs) and business
intelligence analysts (who create dashboards for others to use).

d. Data analysts focus more on reporting based on the data.

e. Knowing programming languages like Python and R is helpful, but data analysts usually
don’t need as much programming skill as data scientists.

Responsibilities:

a. Collect and prepare data: Gather data from different sources and make sure it’s accurate
and consistent.
b. Analyze data: Look for patterns and trends in the data to help support business decisions.
c. Create reports: Use data visualization tools to build dashboards and reports that show
insights clearly.
d. Collaborate with others: Work with data scientists and engineers to collect and process
data and maintain data systems.

Skills:

• SQL, Excel, data visualization (Tableau, Power BI), basic statistical methods. So, data
analysts help businesses understand their current data to make informed decisions.
