Breakdown: Chapter 4

A deaf LA implant named Kaden is approached randomly by a random handsome dude that is
somewhat loose around the edges. Kaden seems to gain a connection with Thomas’s little weird
banter and they seem to build a bond. Although Kaden might be attracted to Thomas in more
ways than one, they’re friendship is unique and cordial as we can feel a healthy bond between
the two. They end up getting the news of the end of the world and both are alone in Los Angeles
but are comfortable still being themselves, living in their own world as this world is about to end.

EXT. NIGHT TIME/ PARKING LOT

(We hear nostalgic 80's music)

est.shot - From a mid/wide shot we see and hear the glowing
neon lights of a taco truck, there's a man in from of it
peering up into the truck.

CUT TO:

BLACK. TITLE OVERLAY

"Chapter 4 : The Other Side"

CUT TO:

EXT. NIGHT TIME/ PARKING LOT

Est. Shot - another man walks into the frame looking to

order a taco.

C/U of the first man, he just pulled his phone down from
showing the food truck chef his order that was written in
text. The second customer who just walked up from behind
just witnessed this and looks a little bubbly to ask...

THOMAS
Wait, what's this about?

The first guy turns slightly to see who came into his field
of vision and gives attention as the man starts talking to
him.

THOMAS (cont'd)
Secret menu or something? I've been
coming here for months (he looks up
at the truck chef area) hey Juan?
Where's the loyalty to the regulars
(he jokes)

The first guy smiles and starts typing on his phone while
signaling for Thomas to wait a sec with his other hand, he
then shows Thomas the phone....

KADEN

"I am Deaf, just wanted extra sauce, no secrets" is written

on the screen and the sound goes completely mute as this is
written.

Oh shit, so you got that eagle eye
for reading lips
Kaden gives a small sudden snort laugh, obviously able to
read lips. Kaden is then handed enough stack of foam
containers to feed a small family, catching Thomases eye..

THOMAS (cont'd)
oh, He who is without a voice musteth
gained a glutenous lifetstyle with
zero punishment of weight gain
(playfully)

THOMAS (cont'd)
(to Juan) that's alot of sauce Juan

Kaden grins at this gentle banter.

Juan hands Thomas his food

Ah, the small joy of online orders

As Kaden holds his bag full of food in one arm, he also is

trying to pump out a text to someone when he feel the flick
of Thomas's hand on his shoulder as he walks by.

THOMAS (cont'd)
(points in the distance) Wanna join

Thomas brings his hand to his face like he is holding a

burger and bites the air. Kaden does a double take and nods.

(we hear nostalgic 80's music)

(WIDE SHOT) Sitting across from each other at a park bench

the two are eating and passing their phones back n forth,
communicating. WE HEAR A VOICEOVER WITH CURSIVE SCRIPT
WRITTEN OVERLAY ON THE SCREEN.

KADEN
(VO)It was early June when I met that
cocky...but welcoming man that would
make sure to always put a twist to
any moment with little bullshit jabs

Thomas points at his phone that he directs towards Kaden's

other food. The phone read and he said outloud

Kaden laughs and signs in ASL "No No Wait"

THOMAS (cont'd)

Thomas picks up the phone and waves his other doing fake
ASL, this is when Kaden spits some of his horchata out and
points at him for making him laugh.

THOMAS (cont'd)
I can't understand, I need help.

Their convo mutes and we are brough back to the VO and the
WRITTEN CURSIVE TEXT ON THE SCREEN.

KADEN
(VO)I did have a sister but she was
back in Orlando with my family, I
just wanted tacos for tomorrow.

CUT TO:

INT. KADEN'S KITCHEN

We Approach Kaden from behind, he is writing in a journal.

VO w/WRITTEN ON SCREEN

KADEN
(VO) When I told my family I had to
find something new, my father told me
I needed to head West. I asked how
far and he said all the way.

CUT TO:

EXT.SUNSET / HILLSIDE BEVERLY HILLS

(nostalgic 80's music continuous from scene before)

(mid/wide shot) Looking through the front side window of

Kaden's SUV, we see the two sitting together on the on the
other side of the car. We can see thru the front window that
Kaden is signing and Thomas is watching Kaden's text layover
the screen as he communicates.

(VO) My father knew before I did...
and bless this city for taking me.
Palm trees, mountains, beaches and
pretentious servers, (cough) I mean
working actors.

We CUT TO the back of the suv and swing around to see from
profile to the front of Kaden and Thomas as they are now
passing the phone back n forth while still overlooking the
beauty below the bluffs

KADEN (cont'd)
(VO) Then I met you, a "BRO" and when
I say bro I mean...

THOMAS
(cuts into the VO) Bro, you've fucked
with gators in real life? Like those
prehistoric baddies?

KADEN
(nods with excitement) (Signs ASL)
They're all over the wetlands.

Thomas throws a hand up

THOMAS
Wait, show me how to sign gator.

Kaden lost in the excitement of forgetting Thomas didn't

know a lick of sign language. Show's him how to sign and
then starts texting. Thomas repeats his hand movements.

THOMAS (cont'd)
What's up?
Kaden show him the phone, WRITTEN ON THE SCREEN " Think
you'll ever learn ASL?"

THOMAS (cont'd)
...learn ASL...damn (sighs and looks
off into the distance)

Kaden can read his uncertainty. He then looks off into the
distance as well, his eyes not really focused...somewhat
blank. WRITTEN WORDS W/ VO

KADEN
(VO) You would give me your time and
physical presence but sometimes, your
eyes would fall into the void.

INT. PLAYER ONE GAME BAR

The two are on shared game where they are racing each other
on two street bikes. They are competing but having fun.
KADEN
(VO) Where I lose tone and context in
someones voice, I can read your
energy. I finally can connect and
offer my right hand even when I need
it to pass you the damn phone.

The two cross the finish line, As they both lean back on the
bikes Thomas pulls out his phone and smiles hard from a text

to text that damn Jules. I'm joking,
I like her.

Foreground we see Thomas smirk back in forth from text to

Kaden, Kaden is smiling in the background.

(VO) They say twin flames have a

We approach the backside of the living room couch where we

see Kaden on the left side and Thomas on the right, both are
sitting forward with intent listening hard to the news

for but a few more days, nothing gold
can stay.

WE CAN NOW HEAR the TV New Anchor (captions turned on)

TV ANCHOR
Yes David, this alert was not only
sent to our U.S congress and citizens
but to all those across the world. We
regret to inform you this is not a
false flag scare, we repeat the fully
AI ran company of 5th Wall has
declared they're take over of all
systems in 95% of the first world
countries.

THOMAS
Ya, I got the texts this morning.

TV ANCHOR
5th Wall will stop the clocks across

Kaden sits back in the couch in disbelief, Thomas does the

Thomas motions as in "RIGHT?" trying to get Kaden to agree

Thomas then throws one of his legs near Kaden and his phone.
Phone reads from Thomas to Kaden WRITTEN ON SCREEN w/VO

KADEN (cont'd)
(VO IN HIS HEAD) He who has a tight
calf can't perform proper duties to a
friendship.

Kaden smirked while Thomas put his head in his hands. Kaden
grabs his calf.

WE now pull from the couch to a wider angle, We can now hear
the TV again

TV ANCHOR
So it seems in Pacific Standard Time
the clocks will stop at 12:34pm. They
also informed us that the water
supply for 70% of the first world
countries have had sedatives for the
past 5 weeks to lower any for of
resistance....

FADE TO:

EXT. SUNSET / HILLSIDE BEVERLY HILLS

The two are standing, peering over the bluffs. Both facing
forward.

WRITTEN WORDS ON SCREEN w/VO

KADEN
(VO) I knew he wanted to leave Los
Angeles at some point in the near
future, that this was going to be a
chapter...but I didn't expect it to
be the last.

Thomas hands Kaden his phone, it reads

KADEN (cont'd)
(VO from phone) Let me know where
when the clocks stop. IDK, somewhere
high up...one last view

Kaden nods at him as Thomas grabs Kaden by the neck/shoulder

area and gives a high buddy hug.
We now are in front of the two as they peer off, we slowly
pull in on Kaden WRITTEN ON SCREEN w/VO

KADEN (cont'd)
(VO) it was at this moment I knew I'd
see you again, just have to play the
long wait game. Of all of Los Angeles
I had to make the most significant
memory on a fucking park bench. I was
invited to your world and hopefully
in the next life...

WE are pulled tight onto Kaden's face now but we start to

hear sirens from the next scene for the transition

INT./EXT. STAIRWELL TO ROOFTOP PARKING LOT

Keeping up behind Kaden as he frantically sprints up the

stairwell, his heavy breathing drowned a little by the steps
slapping the stairwell and the hazard alarm that hit the
city.

He bursts through the last door, frantically looking around

until his eyes land on the next rooftop over to see Thomas
rushing to the ledge yelling in pain from the realization

THOMAS
You pin dropped here!!!! (panicked)

KADEN
seven seven Eight-six!!

We see Kaden's profile with vast city skyline in the

background, echoes of the siren coupled with distant
crashing...then complete silence, we hear VOID.

THOMAS
(Written OS) Even though our sails
are being pulled by the winds of shit

We start to hear Thomas' voice from the complete silence

matching the words written OS. Kaden starts to look up and
smile.

THOMAS (cont'd)
Thou shan't not be wary of the end
for he is with me

The sirens and atmospheric noise return, another loud crack

in the distance. We seen Evan in the distance speaking ASL
as he is talking. In the foreground we can see Kaden
physically laughing...

THOMAS (cont'd)
A brethren in need of a scallywag...
(no more ASL) Finally got you to
laugh!!! In extra time, barely made
it!

Kaden can't help but to beam with happiness

KADEN

With that, the lightspeed drop of a warhead happens in the

distance illuminating the sky.
